Attributes: • Small class sizes allow your instructors to get to know you on a personal level, allowing them to better understand your educational needs. You are an individual, not just a face in a lecture hall.
• •
Your college education is affordable at Parkside; with access to a variety of financial aid and scholarship opportunities. Over $250,000 in scholarships are awarded to Parkside students each year. Numerous research and internship opportunities make it easy to explore your personal scientific interest while also gaining valuable professional experience.
“Not only was I offered a variety of opportunities such as undergraduate research in the exercise science laboratory and presentations at professional conferences, it helped me grow as both a scholar and an individual. The faculty at UW-Parkside helped me realize my potential and encouraged me to go above and beyond my comfort zone.” - Karisa Laskowski (grad 2013) “Having professors who enjoy teaching and care about their students is vital to student’s academic and, ultimately, professional success, which is what I experienced in the Pre-Health Department at UW-Parkside.” - Abigail Bissonette (grad 2013) “The Psychology Department at UW-Parkside provided me with small class sizes, daily scholarly discussion with professors as well as opportunities for undergraduate research and field experience.” - Nicole Sicuro-Leipski (grad 1998)
Distinctive Features & Keys to Our Students’ Success • More than 90% of Pre-Health graduates are accepted into professional schools. Our graduates have continued their education in high-profile medical, graduate and professional universities like Harvard, Johns Hopkins, and UW-Madison.
• Your work here will matter. The ability to conduct, understand and present advanced research is essential to a successful career in the sciences. Students from across our many programs can work independently, or with faculty, on research projects that are presented to professional scientific communities.
• Outstanding faculty research. Students at Parkside work with faculty engaged in innovative research in their fields. The learning extends outside too! We take advantage of the beautiful forest and prairie around the campus to provide ample lab space for environmental and biological studies.
• An education that makes a difference. Many of the research projects students undertake have a focus on addressing world issues. In 2010, Chemistry students traveled to a Cambodian village to provide its people with better water filtration methods to protect their health and improve their quality of life. Students who wish to combine their scientific studies with a desire to bring change to the world will find many ways to do so at Parkside.
• Passionate about the environment? Our new Environmental Studies degree and Sustainable Management (BS and MS) degrees are exciting and unique options for students who wish to apply their undergraduate education to the protection of the environment. As our concern for the environment grows, the market for “green jobs” grows along with it; expanding the opportunities for those

Student Success Stories Kristen Bensen
Senior, Chemistry major “I am researching Green Chemistry which is cleaner and less hazardous to humans, animals and the environment. UW-Parkside is a golden gateway to not only a fantastic education, but also great opportunities to grow in the university and to help out in the community. I am currently the President of the Chemistry club and a Lab Assistant/interim lab manager at a company in Racine. I was able to network through the school to apply for a lab assistant position in the community and because I was a Parkside student they gave me an interview right away! And the rest is history…which is still in the making!”
Antonio Covelli
Junior, Biology major “This past summer I had the extreme privilege to work alongside Dr. David Andes and his research staff at the Microbial Sciences Building in Madison, WI. Working with some of the best and brightest in microbial infections, we looked at possible ways to target the components of Candida infections, the most common fungal infections in the United States and the leading cause of most catheter based infections. Parkside is an unbelievable university in how it prepares students like me who are pursuing a medical career, by challenging us in our academics and by being there to guide us every step of the way. Parkside provides me with a quality education and an environment to develop into the professional I want to be in the future.”
