Happy New Year! Welcome to the 2015 Spring YourU catalog. It’s been an exciting first year in my role as UW-Parkside’s Continuing Education Director. I have truly enjoyed learning more about the classes and programs we offer to the communities in southeast Wisconsin. Meeting many of you has been a pleasure and I look forward to getting to know more of you at our events this year. We have some exciting changes for 2015! The cover of the YourU provides the first hint of these changes. The Center for Community Partnerships has changed its name! It will now be known as Continuing Education and Community Engagement to better reflect the services offered to you. Please know that we will continue to provide all of the programs and services to which you are accustomed including Mini Courses, conferences, professional and nonprofit development, behavioral health, and online learning. The staff and students have worked hard to plan excellent personal enrichment and professional development classes to meet your personal interests and training needs. I encourage you to browse through the entire catalog to learn about all of our new classes. We are launching new courses including a Fund Development Certificate, Project Management Professional prep course for certification, and an online Social Media Certificate. We are also expanding youth programs this summer to offer a new Environmental Explorers youth camp with UW-Parkside’s College of Natural and Health Sciences. In addition, we welcome children to take a class to learn about the beautiful and endangered monarch butterfly. I encourage you to offer suggestions and feedback as we continue to expand and refine our offerings and services. So, make a resolution to stretch yourself by taking a noncredit continuing education course and grow through learning with us in 2015!

How the World Began

by Catherine Trieschmann – directed by Michael Clickner This powerful story focuses on a science teacher from Manhattan who arrives in rural Kansas after a tornado has ripped the town apart. Susan finds herself thrown into an ethical firestorm making a comment about how life on earth began. The compassionate and honest play focuses on the tension between creationism and evolution, and how this is taught in schools. It is also a powerful psychological investigation into individual responses to these issues and the ways in which people are driven to extreme ideological positions in times of stress.
