UNIVERSITY OF SZEGED

FACULTY OF PHARMACY

ABOUT THE FACULTY

The Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Szeged is Hungary’s second oldest faculty of pharmaceutical sciences. We have more than 100 years of experience in education and research, which – together with our practice-centered approach and friendly environment - provides a valuable basis for a high level of professionalism. The pharmacists who graduate in Szeged are much sought-after by pharmacies, pharmaceutical, and research companies, as well as the regulatory field. Our graduates acquire an excellent routine and confidence in dispensing medicines, providing guidance on the application of drug preparations and medicinal plants, and making lifestyle changes that complement pharmacotherapy. Unemployment among our graduate students is virtually unknown due to the shortage of pharmacists throughout Europe. A diploma (Doctor of Pharmacy) acquired in Szeged is fully accepted in the European Union (EU) and provides an easy route for the recognition procedures outside the EU.

PROGRAMMES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Doctor of Pharmacy, 5 years, (PharmD., Undivided Master).

The 10-semester-long program starts with an introduction to basic sciences, providing a foundation for further pharmaceutical studies. The second part of the program includes general and special pharmaceutical education at the university departments and institutes, teaching pharmacies, hospital and clinical pharmacies, laboratories, and pharmaceutical companies. The faculty seeks to educate its undergraduates by promoting their intellectual development and their progressive accumulation of competence in all fields of modern pharmacy. After the successful completion of the program, the title Doctor Pharmacy is awarded (pharmacist, PharmD). The quality of the training is outstanding compared to similar Hungarian and European pharmacist training centers due to our lecturers, who are all internationally respected professionals and active researchers.

Doctoral School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (PhD)

There are diverse possibilities for especially advanced pharmaceutical research at the Faculty of Pharmacy, since its different institutes represent the whole area of pharmaceutical research, from the synthesis or isolation of biologically active compounds and their pharmacological or biopharmaceutical investigation, to their formulation. Students can explore different fields of pharmaceutical research according to their interests and, at the same time, gain extensive knowledge in other areas from the available courses. The scientific content of each program is introduced separately, although they represent a single unit. Programs of the Doctoral School include Pharmacognosy; Pharmaceutical Analysis; Pharmacology, Biopharmacy, and Clinical Pharmacy; Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and Pharmaceutical Research; Pharmaceutical Technology and Regulatory Science.
