FACULTY OF PHARMACY
ABOUT THE FACULTY
The Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Szeged is the second oldest pharmacy faculty in Hungary. More than 100 years of experience in education and research, practice-centered approach and friendly environment provide a good basis for a high professional level. The pharmacists who graduate in Szeged are much sought-after by pharmacies, pharmaceutical companies, and the research and regulatory fields. They have acquired an excellent routine and confidence in dispensing medicines, and in giving counsel as how to use drug preparations and medicinal plants, and how to change the lifestyle so as to help pharmacotherapy. Because of the shortness of pharmacists throughout Europe, unemployment among our graduated students is unknown. This means that all of our students can find a position within 3 months after graduation. Salaries are also attractive: pharmacists are counted among the well-paid professionals in Europe and also overseas. A diploma (Doctor of Pharmacy) acquired in Szeged is accepted in the countries of the European Union (EU), and provide an easy route for the naturalization process outside the EU.
PROGRAMMES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS Doctor of Pharmacy, 5 years, (PharmD., Undivided). The Academic Program offered by the Faculty of Pharmacy leads to the degree Doctor of Pharmacy. This program extends over a period of five years (10 semesters). It begins with an introduction to the basic sciences providing a basis for further pharmaceutical studies. In the second part of the program, students take part in general and special pharmaceutical education at the university departments, teaching pharmacies, institutes, hospital and clinical pharmacies, laboratories and pharmaceutical works. The faculty seeks to educate its undergraduates by promoting their intellectual development and their progressive accumulation of competence in all fields of modern pharmacy. After the successful completion of the programme, the title Doctor Pharmaciae is awarded (pharmacist, PharmD.). The quality of the training is outstanding compared to similar Hungarian and European pharmacist training centers. The Faculty takes part in international research activities too. The training material is continuously updated in light of the most recent research results. The lecturers are internationally respected professionals and active researchers. Doctoral School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (PhD) There are diverse possibilities for especially advanced pharmaceutical research at the Faculty of Pharmacy, since its different institutes represent the whole area of pharmaceutical research, from the synthesis or isolation of biologically active compounds and their pharmacological or biopharmaceutical investigation, to their formulation. Students can explore different fields of pharmaceutical research according to their interests and at the same time gain extensive knowledge in other fields as well from the available courses. The scientific content of each programme is introduced separately, although they represent a single unit. Programmes of the Doctoral School: Pharmacognosy; Pharmaceutical Analysis; Pharmacology, Biopharmacy, and Clinical Pharmacy; Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Research; Pharmaceutical Technology.
