How We A S TO L D B Y T H E B R I D E

I was a cheerleader at Utah State University and it was football season. I had just injured my leg so I was sitting out on the sidelines. I posted a Snapchat of my view of the game and Justin “slid into the Snapchat DM” saying “how do I get a sideline seat like that”. After that we hung out and I thought wow this guy is so cute but so SHY. We stopped talking for a couple months after that but reconnected later and that’s when he took me on our first date. We went to his family's ranch and went on a gator ride and that was by far my most favorite date I had ever been on. Justin was completely himself (non-stop talking and singing) and I thought okay maybe he’s not as shy as I thought. He made me feel so comfortable to be around. I felt like I could just be myself which I loved. He made a joke and said “if it rains we have to kiss in the rain okay?” and I was all for it and it started raining and he never kissed me. I thought again okay he’s still shy but really he was just being a gentleman and not kissing on the first date. That night I told my mom I was going to marry this guy.

Met

A S TO L D B Y T H E G RO O M

I first met McKaila when I was entering my sophomore year of school in Fall 2016. She was on the cheer squad up at USU, and we started following each other on Instagram and Snapchat. Right when I saw her for the first time, I thought she was a dime and wanted to hang out with her. Our conversations began as merely just “snapping” each other that mostly consisted of me trying to spit game. There was one particular football game that I remember seeing her on the sideline and I thought “dang, she is pretty.” She was with her cheer squad supporting the team, even though she had recently injured her leg and was on crutches. What mostly amazed me was the fact that she still looked crazy gorgeous even with that huge cast on her leg. After I pointed her out to my buddies up in the stands, I sent her a message asking her how I could score a sideline seat. Eventually we met up one day, however it wasn’t for a date. She came over and helped me pack a lunch for the next day snowboarding. Looking back, I laugh that I wasn’t man enough to ask her on an actual date and I literally invited her over without any real plans. Finally, I manned up and asked her on a date to ride a four-wheeler at my grandpa’s ranch in Idaho. We drove three hours in an old diesel ranch truck with about 300,000 miles on it that probably was quite a bit of a change for her. After driving the gator around for an hour and getting all muddy and cold, we went back to the ranch house where I cooked up some leftover bacon that was left sitting in the fridge from one of the ranch-hands. I think I just got lucky because it turns out she loves bacon, and that may or may not have been what won her over. On the way home we bonded while sharing a raspberry shake that we picked up from the Chevron gas station in Bear Lake. From this date forward a couple months, we started spending more and more time together. The Post Malone concert, to the movies, to the crazy adventures, to simply just getting to know each other, our relationship grew. The greatest part of meeting McKaila was how natural it was. Neither of us were looking to date, but as we got to know each other, we started to love each other. I realize every day how she's truly an amazing woman, and I'm grateful for her in my life.

The Proposal

A S TO L D B Y T H E B R I D E

Back story: We were coming up on our 1 year of dating anniversary and we had been talking about marriage for a while by then. Justin went to my house to talk to my mom and later when I came home I immediately knew they were planning something. Both Justin and my mom were acting so different, and I know both of them so well that I said to myself “they’re planning the proposal”. We had planned to look at wedding venues the day before our anniversary and Justin made an excuse that he couldn't come with anymore because he “had to help his grandpa at the ranch”. The next day November 11, 2018 Justin said he had a surprise for me and we began driving to his ranch. I was screaming on the inside, because I knew what was happening that night but I just tried to stay calm. On the way up he started joking about when he was going to propose to me. He would then have this huge grin on his face, and we’d both start laughing because he knew that I knew. We got to his ranch and went on a gator ride, just like we did on our first date. The ranch is so special to us because that’s where we first bonded. After riding the gator up in the beautiful snowy Idaho mountains, Justin got out a tie to blindfold me and said he had a surprise. We made a stop and he grabbed my hands and guided me to an area that I had no idea where we were at. He then took off the blindfold and said “look around.” I opened my eyes and started crying because to the left of me was both my family and his, smiling and flashing their cameras. To the right of me was the old barn shining with lights and a sign that said “McKaila I will love you for eternity”. I looked back at Justin as he went down on one knee, telling me he loved me, and then popped the question. Afterwards we went into the ranch house and had dinner while warming up next to an old wood burning furnace as we enjoyed being with each other and our families celebrating this special moment.
