Adam and I met at a fundraising dance for cancer on March 29th at Utah State. He arrived toward the end of the party with a friend and then started talking to one of my friends, Haddie, about going on a scooter ride. Haddie was going with Adam's friend Kaden and so Haddie asked if I would want to go with Adam. I said sure... and that's how we met. Little did Adam know at the time that I already knew him before Haddie had even asked if I wanted to go with him. Which I quickly and somewhat awkwardly told him on our scooter ride. He had dated a friend of mine a couple years before and although we had never met I knew who he was and I knew quite a bit about him from her. Amazingly enough knowing all that didn't weird him out and he got my number right after dropping me back off at the dance. After he left I told Haddie, "He's sooo cute and I actually already know who he is. Set us up Hadd!" and she did.

Our first date was a Utah Jazz Game with his cousins and some of their friends. The date was perfect. I met him after work, we went to crown burger went to the game. The jazz actually won and he tried to kiss me... but I wouldn’t let him on the first date. ;) I remember thinking that night that this could actually be going somewhere and feeling so excited that I felt like I had finally met someone that I could potentially see my self with.

Could be describe in one word: Awkward. Adam thought it would be funny to talk about it before it happened... which made it more awkward when it finally did happen. Although the initial kiss was a little weird knowing it was going to happen... it still was great.

We started dating around the beginning of May. I was just about to graduate, I was working in Salt Lake and in Logan only a few days week and we didn’t really know if this was going to go anywhere or not with me being in Salt Lake permanently soon. We decided to try it anyway long distance and just see where it went. After all we knew the saying, “distance makes the heart grow stronger or wander” so either way we would have an answer soon. All I can say about long distance is it definitely wasn’t fun but we made it work and I would say it accelerated the relationship quite a bit too. Ha!

Happened after Adam had been away on a backpacking trip with his family over the summer. I think we had both been feeling it for a while but I definitely wasn’t going to say it first so I waited for him. On June 7th he told me he loved me. We were engaged two weeks later... ;)

Adam and I had been ring shopping the week before we were engaged. I had picked out a ring we found on KSL that was a 1920's vintage art deco that I loved. He told me he couldn't get it and so I took a half day off work and we went ring shopping. I was absolutely heart broken that I couldn't get the ring I initially wanted but I thought having a look around might not be bad. We had the date set for when we would get married before we were even engaged so I knew the engagement had to be coming soon since it was already mid-June and our wedding date was set for August 15th. On June 21st, Adam was working and I was waiting for him to get off work when I got a call there was a flower arrangement waiting for me to pick up. I thought... this is it! He's proposing! I told my sister... I was soooo excited and that she should come. She said she had too much to do and couldn't make it. When I went to get the flowers there was a note saying: " Sarah, I want to be there for you in sickness and health and any other teeth you may lose." Next stop: Fanzz. My initial thought about this was that it was from my old boss. Dr. Jensen, the dentist I had worked for 4 years. I had a conversation with him that morning letting him know I would be getting married and asking if he would be willing to let us use his backyard for the reception so I thought he got me flowers congratulating me but the note was a little weird. It was then that I remembered that Adam had brought me flowers when I got my wisdom teeth out a couple months before and brought my favorite flowers. Daisys. He was proposing. :) At Fanzz there was a Jazz jersey waiting for me with a note reminding me of our first date and to meet Adam at the front gates of the Logan temple. This was really happening. I called my sister. Freaking out and told her I wish she had come. She was so excited and said she wished she had too but to call her when It was over. Adam was at the front gate waiting for me at the temple. He took me to front of the temple by the bench and as we were walking around I saw my sister and his parents there waiting with cameras and phones in the bushes. (My sis was in on it the whole time). He got down on one knee and said a bunch of wonderful things about being with me for forever and proposed. The ring ended up being the 1920’s art deco ring that I had wanted and he had just lied about it to surprise me. I was very much surprised.

our wedding day

We were married on August 15th in the Logan Utah temple. It was a perfect day. Not too hot, not too cold. We had our reception that night in Logan at my sisters-in- law’s back yard and my old boss’s (they are next door neighbors so we used both of their yards). Our story was pretty simple. Boy meets girl, boy and girl fall in love, boy and girl get married. We were very lucky to have found each other like we did and have it all work out so quickly. I wouldn't have had it any other way though.
If you want something to last forever, you treat it differently. You shield it and protect it. You never abuse it. You don’t expose it to the elements. You don’t make it common or ordinary. If it ever becomes tarnished, you lovingly polish it until it gleams like new. It becomes special because you have made it so, and it grows more beautiful and precious as time goes by.
