Welcome!

Before You Move In

You are officially a Resident Lobo! In this booklet you will find helpful information to make moving into your residence hall a smooth transition. Please print a copy and bring this guide with you to move in.

First things first! There are a few things you should do before you come to campus.

What to Expect When Checking In

The check-in process involves completing some final paperwork, such as emergency contact information and a room condition report. In addition, you will be issued room keys/fob for your hall. We appreciate your patience during our peak check-in times!

1. Contact your roommate. Get acquainted and decide who will be bringing what to avoid two of everything. Roommate assignments will be sent to you via email mid-July.

2. Start getting involved! You don’t have to wait until you arrive to get to know us. Join our Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram to get to know Residence Life.

3. Get your vaccinations. Visit with your doctor to find out more information on appropriate vaccinations before coming to college. Visit UNM Student Health and Counseling at http://shac.unm.edu for more information.

4. Consider purchasing property insurance. Many homeowner policies cover student property, or you may purchase additional coverage to minimize any financial impact from theft, fire, etc.

5. Get your parking pass for the academic year online. Parking passes will be available for purchase beginning at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21 for returning students and Thursday, July 23, 2015 for new residents. For more information visit pats.unm.edu.

Resident Lobo Tip Make sure you sign up for your hall Facebook page before you get here. It’s a great way to meet past and future residents, keep up to date on activities in your hall and ask questions!

When to Get Here Early Arrival: August 8

10 am to 4 pm Need to get here early? There is a $30 per day early arrival fee (fee is charged to your Bursar’s Account after check-in.) Early arrival must be pre-approved. Please send early arrival requests to housing@unm.edu.

Early arrivals can check in at their assigned hall desk and park in designated parking areas. (More on that later in the guide.)

RESIDENT LOBO Move-In 2015: August 11-14

9 am to 8 pm Resident Lobo Move-In is the optimal yet flexible time for check-in at UNM. Volunteers will be on hand to help you unload. Moving carts will be available to help with your move as well. Most importantly, designated sidewalk access unloading zones will be available to ease your move!

During this time, UNM Housing will also host an information fair including UNM departments such as UNM Foods, Parking, and more to answer any last-minute questions.You can also visit with representatives from the UNM Parent Association. Who knows, there might even be a Louie Lobo sighting!

Weekend/Late Arrival: August 15-16 9 am to 6 pm

Can’t make it until the weekend? No problem. RA’s will be available to help you. Park in designated parking areas and arrive to your assigned hall desk to check in. (More on that later in the guide.)

No Shows

Residents who have not checked in by 5 pm, Monday, August 17 will be charged a $500 no-show fee. Please call our 24/7 help desk at 505.277.2606 if you are experiencing any special situations that prevent you from arriving at this time.

Parking during Move-In A temporary unloading parking permit will be provided to you when you arrive at the tent located at the sidewalk access or “Pedway.” (See map.) Please only use the unloading zones to drop off your belongings.

Unloading zones are not for checking in, unpacking or other campus errands. Please park briefly, unload your items and then move your car to a residential parking area to complete your check-in process or to unpack your room.

Pedway Access (green arrow on map)

The Pedway is the main sidewalk that runs through the Residence Life area, beginning at the Redondo Road roundabout running west to the Social Sciences building. The Pedway will be set up as an unloading zone during Resident Lobo Move-In. •Enter on the east end from the roundabout. Look for the check-in tent.

•Stop at the check-in tent to obtain your 30 minute unloading permit.

•Pedway speed limit is 5 mph.

•The Pedway is ONE-WAY ONLY. Drive west and park on the right hand side to unload.

•Exit at the west end of the Pedway near the Social Sciences building.

Where to Park

Residents are allowed to park in the residence hall “R” parking lots as well as the Lomas structure “S” parking lots without a parking pass until classes begin August 17. Residents who plan to park on campus regularly, however, should purchase a permit from UNM Parking & Transportation Services as soon as possible. Please go to pats.unm.edu for more details.

Did You Know? ☐ The Community Living Guide has tons of useful information, including things like emergency preparedness and other important procedures. Be sure to read through your handbook and understand all the policies. ☐ We have lots of activities planned for you once you get here. First, kick off your year with Rez-Hall-A-Daze, a great UNM tradition and award winning program, followed by ten days of exciting events including the Residence Hall Olympiad, where residence halls compete for bragging rights. Keep up to date on all these events through our social media and flyers posted throughout the residence halls. ☐ UNM Residence Life & Student Housing offers over 100 paid student positions! You could be a desk attendant, security assistant and more!
