UNM Housing is more than just a place to sleep. It’s a community where you will be sustained in the company of lifelong friends you have yet to meet.
“The community aspect of living in a suite style dorm is top notch. My suitemates and I became fast friends. We always eat at La Po together, help one another with homework and lift each other up when the stress of midterms and finals comes around. Some of my favorite memories are getting a knock at my door at 11pm from my neighbor who had a film and or photography project due in an hour and wanted to see if I could be the main subject. This happened a lot in my suit area, which allowed me to make connections and not be afraid to ask for help myself. Living in the Art LLC help me gain confidence in my own work and broaden my perspective of art as a whole in all its different mediums.”
“As an employee and resident of UNM Housing, I’ve met so many amazing individuals throughout the years. From building important connections to having long-lasting friendships, Residence Life has been very helpful. Being an out-of-state student, acclimating to a new atmosphere can be difficult. With the true college experience, Residence Life gave me a chance at creating a life for myself through the workplace and social skills. A core memory would definitely be leaving my door open and letting people pop in. I’m still friends with many of those individuals now!”

Residence Life and Student Housing works in partnership with the UNM Accessibility Resource Center to provide accommodations to UNM self-identified students with disabilities. Any student in need of a reasonable accommodation due to a documented disability should work with UNM Accessibility Resource Center (arc. unm.edu). RLSH provides accommodations in accordance with University Administrative Policy 2310. Students with a documented disability that affect a major life activity are eligible. Students must be registered with the Accessibility Resource Center to receive housing accommodations under the ADA.
While housing accommodations are available, they are limited and are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Housing assignments are made based on the required recommendations from the Accessibility Resource Center. Students seeking accommodation should register for housing as early as possible and immediately begin the accommodations process with ARC.
For students seeking housing for Fall 2023, they should complete a registration with housing and have a finalized accommodation with ARC prior to June 5, 2023 to provide RLSH the ability to facilitate the most appropriate accommodation based on the ARC recommendation. Requests received on or after June 6 will be considered based on space availability. ubmitting your application
Assignments are on a first-come, first-served basis. Register as early as possible for the best chance to obtain your preferred hall or roommate. It’s a good idea to register as soon as you are certain you will be attending UNM and want to live on campus.

That said, UNM Housing strongly encourages all freshmen to live on campus. Exceptions may be requested for the following:

• Domestically partnered, married or have legally dependent children
• Medical or accessibility circumstance (must apply and be approved through UNM’s Accessibility Resource Center)
• Demonstrate that living on campus would present an undue hardship
