ith the arrival of February, it’s an opportunity to enjoy the many winter activities southeastern Wisconsin has to offer. It’s a great time to enjoy a walk in the snow, ice-skate with the kids, ski one of Wisconsin’s beautiful winter trails, or enjoy one of MPTV’s award winning programs. This month we would like to recognize American Transmission Company as one of the underwriting sponsors of Around the Corner with John McGivern, Season 5. This season, this popular and Emmy award-winning program will feature 13 communities including: Ft. Atkinson, Avenues West in Milwaukee, Westosha, Brewers Hill, West Bend, Pewaukee, and Milwaukee’s East North Avenue, to name just a few. Around the Corner with John McGivern, Season 5, airs on Thursday evenings, at 7 p.m. on Channel 10 and Sunday evenings at 7 p.m. on Channel 36. American Transmission Company (ATC) provides electric transmission service throughout the Upper Midwest, including the eastern half of Wisconsin. It was founded in 2001, as the first multi-state, transmission-only utility in the United States. Transmission lines are comparable to an interstate highway system, with high-voltage electricity traveling on transmission wires like cars on the road. American Transmission Company has more than 9,500 miles of high-voltage transmission lines and 530 substations throughout the Upper Midwest, moving power from where it’s produced to electric distribution companies, who then distribute power to the homes and businesses they serve. Anne Spaltholz, Communications Manager at American Transmission Company says, “We are so pleased to support Milwaukee Public Television. It is great, and always getting better with its variety. MPTV’s broad programming informs, entertains and educates everyone in our community – from children and to families. MPTV is a local gem, and Around the Corner with John McGivern beautifully showcases the vibrancy of the people and places in area communities. It aligns so perfectly with what our company strives to do – to help keep the lights on, businesses running and communities strong." We greatly appreciate American Transmission Company’s sponsorship of Around the Corner with John McGivern, Season 5, and their commitment to MPTV. Find out more about how your organization can become an underwriter and be seen on MPTV. Contact Maureen Bradley at: bradley1@matc.edu or (414) 297-8008.

isconsin's undisputed importance in this year's Presidential elections is underscored by the selection of Milwaukee as the site for both the Republican and Democratic Presidential debates. The Republican event took place last November in the historic Milwaukee Theatre (kitty corner from the MATC downtown campus). In February, the nation's eyes will be on Milwaukee again when the Democrats arrive in town for their debate. PBS NewsHour and its hosts Gwen Ifill and Judy Woodruff have been selected to moderate the Democratic Presidential debate on February 11th. The event, which is being staged in the Helene Zelazo Center for the Performing Arts in the Helen Bader Concert Hall at UWM - will be broadcast live on Milwaukee Public Television at 8:00 p.m. on Channel 10/WMVS. Milwaukee Public Television is honored to be assisting the PBS NewsHour team in the production of both the February 11th Democratic Presidential debate - as well as a special taping on February 12th of Gwen Ifill’s weekly news analysis program, Washington Week. Tickets for the Democratic Presidential debate are managed by the Democratic National Committee and have quickly sold out. I’m delighted to say that Milwaukee Public Television, thanks to producers of Washington Week, has a limited number of tickets for the Friday, February 12th taping of Washington Week with Gwen Ifill. Ms. Ifill, one of the finest broadcast journalists in contemporary times, will do something very special for viewers of her series. As part the program's year long celebration of 50 years on television, Gwen will tape the classic Washington Week broadcast in front of a live Milwaukee audience - and immediately after, will tape a second special edition in which she will be taking questions from MPTV attendees in the Helen Bader Concert Hall. We’re calling that special half hour: Washington Week EXTRA-Wisconsin Edition. (Having attended a taping of Washington Week on location in Los Angeles, I can assure you it’s a terrific event).

For more details on how you can get these much in demand tickets, please visit mptv.org/events . I look forward to seeing you on February 12th for the Washington Week and Washington Week Extra-Wisconsin taping. And if you can’t make it, MPTV will provide you a free front row seat for both the Democratic Presidential debate as well as Washington Week. Here is a reminder of the broadcast times for each of the special programs: PBS NewsHour Democratic Primary Debate Thursday, 2/11 @ 8 p.m. on CH 10HD repeat 2/11 @ 10:30 p.m. on CH 36HD Washington Week Friday, 2/12 @ 7 p.m. on CH 10HD repeat 2/14 @ 12:30 a.m. on CH 10HD Washington Week EXTRA-Wisconsin Edition Friday, 2/12 @ 7:30 p.m. on CH 10HD repeat 2/12 @ 10 p.m. on CH 36HD repeat 2/14 @ p.m. on CH 10HD I am open to your comments and ideas. DEMOCRATIC DEBATE IN MILWAUKEE “We are proud that PBS stations will broadcast this Democratic candidate debate at such a critical time in the election cycle — on the heels of the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary — and there are no better journalists to moderate than Gwen and Judy,” said Beth Hoppe, Chief Programming Executive and General Manager, General Audience Programming, PBS. “I know that PBS NewsHour and WETA will produce a debate that is as engaging as it is informative, and which will help the public learn more about the positions of these candidates.”

BS NewsHour will produce the first Democratic presidential candidates’ debate following the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary on Thursday, February 11th, at 8p.m. NewsHour co-anchors and managing editors Gwen Ifill and Judy Woodruff will moderate the PBS NewsHour Democratic Primary Debate, to be broadcast nationwide on PBS stations. The Democratic National Committee (DNC)-sanctioned debate will be held at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on its main campus.

In addition to the national live broadcast on PBS, the debate produced in cooperation with Milwaukee Public Television and WUWM 89.7 FM - will be streamed online at pbs.org/newshour. “It is fitting that two of America’s finest journalists will guide this candidates’ debate, which will take place just days after the Iowa Caucuses and New Hampshire Primary,” said Sharon Percy Rockefeller, President and CEO of WETA, the producing station of PBS NewsHour. “In service to the American people, Gwen Ifill and Judy Woodruff will bring to bear the trademark intelligence, balance, and gravitas of one of the nation’s most trusted and respected news operations as they elicit candidates’ views on issues facing the nation. We look forward to an illuminating, engaging debate that will enrich the national political dialogue and reflect PBS NewsHour’s fundamental mission to inform and educate the public.” 4

“Gwen Ifill and Judy Woodruff will bring the same high journalistic standards and integrity to this debate that they bring to the PBS NewsHour every day,” said Sara Just, Executive Producer of the NewsHour and Senior Vice President of WETA. “I’m looking forward to seeing the first all-female moderating team at a presidential debate.” The PBS NewsHour Democratic Primary Debate is part of PBS Elections 2016 — a year-long, cross-platform initiative that brings together PBS’ news, public affairs, documentary and digital programming to provide comprehensive, trusted coverage of the 2016 elections. New and returning series will join acclaimed programs including PBS NewsHour, PBS NewsHour Weekend, Frontline, Washington Week with Gwen Ifill, Charlie Rose and Tavis Smiley for comprehensive coverage of breaking news, topical political issues and behind-the-scenes stories about the candidates and the election process.

UE TO AN OVERWHELMING RESPONSE, we have added another trip on April 7th! MPTV invites you to join us for a trip to Chicago’s Driehaus Museum for “Dressing Downton: Changing Fashion for Changing Times”. This stunning exhibition includes 36 period costumes and a fashion overview from the first four seasons of the acclaimed PBS series Downton Abbey. The “Dressing Downton” exhibit explores fashions in Britain from 1912, marked by the sinking of the Titanic, through World War I and into the early 1920’s. The Driehaus, one of the grandest residential buildings of 19th-century Chicago is an amazing setting for this unique opportunity and MPTV will take you there in comfort aboard a Badger Bus. Enjoy lunch on your own at one of the Magnificent Mile’s nearby restaurants.

Tickets are $65 for Members and $75 for non-Members. To order your tickets for either the Watertown Plank Road or College Avenue pick up locations, simply visit mptv.org or call us at 414-297-8009 or 414-297-8006.
