MASTERPIECE: US In a drama tinged with humor and heartbreak, Tom Hollander (Baptiste, The Night Manager) and Saskia Reeves (Luther) play a couple who embark on a long-planned grand tour of Europe, despite the wife’s wrenching proclamation that she wants to leave the marriage. The four-part series is based on a novel by best-selling author David Nicholls. The Daily Telegraph called it a “brilliantly witty and heartfelt drama about a family on the edge.” 6/20, 8p.m. 10HD Courtesy of Drama Republic and MASTERPIECE
Bohdan Zachary I
hope you’re enjoying the warmer, longer days as we head into summer. This winter—and spring—seemed unusually long, so I welcome the ability to get outside and explore as we slowly return to a more normal world.
Live music and travel are staples of the summer months in our community. This month, we have some shows specially designed with those activities in mind. First, the premiere of ANDREA BOCELLI: BELIEVE, which showcases the beloved Italian tenor’s voice as he sings before breathtaking views. This special ties in to his upcoming tour, which kicks off here in Milwaukee, and you’ll have the opportunity to get tickets for select seating and see it all live—you won’t want to miss this special. And PBS travel guru Rick Steves is back with RICK STEVES: EUROPE AWAITS, celebrating the return of leisure travel and offering supporters special virtual events where you can interact with Steve as he shares his thoughts about getting back out in the world around us. This month also marks the gradual return of Milwaukee PBS staff to working at our offices at the MATC downtown campus. I’m proud of the successes we’ve been able to achieve while working remotely for more than a year during the pandemic, but I’m eager to start seeing people’s faces in person again. We’ve learned a lot during this time and will continue to incorporate new technology and techniques as we resume our in-studio work on a regular basis. Stay tuned for new episodes and specials, including this October’s special partnership with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra (MSO) to celebrate the opening of the Bradley Symphony Center. Thank you so much for your continued, generous support over the past year. Our entire community thanks you for allowing Milwaukee PBS to continue bringing you news you can trust, entertainment you crave, and educational programs that are shaping the leaders of tomorrow. You’ve played an important role in keeping things moving forward when it’s been needed most. Sincerely, Vice President & General Manager, Milwaukee PBS

Rick Steves: Europe Awaits
T
ravel lovers have spent the last year or so dreaming of where they'll go post-COVID. In this unforgettable journey, Rick Steves shares vivid visits to some European favorites – off-beat, romantic, or just good for the soul – that he’d love to visit when we can travel again. Stow away with Rick as he explores the wonders and savors the joys of a montage of travel delights: Sicily, so tasty and historic; Mykonos, for a little Aegean romance; Porto, in the rustic and untouristed north of Portugal; the Cotswolds, for the best of the English countryside; Tuscany, Italy’s la dolce vita country; and Romania, with perhaps the most vivid traditional folk life in Europe. It's a far-flung adventure that comes with remote beaches, gourmet food, and an unforgettable English hike; Rick even drops in on an eccentric lord and a Tuscan pig farm! This pledge special, a celebration of the value of public television, is sure to stoke both your travel dreams and your appreciation of public television as we prepare to emerge from this pandemic.
Clockwise from top: Peles Castle in the Carpathian Mountains of Romania; Rabelo port-wine boat along Porto's Cais da Ribeira, on the Douro River in Portugal; Arlington Row in the Cotswolds town of Bibury, England; Rick hitches a cart ride with a farmer in Maramures, Romania.
