As I am preparing for summer vacations and relaxation spots, it is important for me to always keep in mind that selfcare is my top priority. So, when I am planning it is imperative that I select places that will provide me peace and serenity. Being in the hustle and bustle of life can become emotionally, mentally, and physically draining. I must make sure that I honor my body by eating healthy foods, drinking lots of water, and making sure that my surroundings and environments are not filled with chaos. My favorite relaxation place to go is by the water because that is my intimate time with God to be consumed with his presence. My favorite foods are greens, king crabs, salads, and Cornish hens.

Some of the places I would love to travel to are Hawaii, Vegas, and Dubai. I love being around blue water and places that are historical and educational. Some of the books that I am planning to read this summer are Mental Health Awareness Black and Brown Pain, Emotional SelfCare for Black Women and Black Women Redefined Dispelling Myths, and Discovering Fulfillment in The Age of Michelle Obama. The number one biz tip that I would love to share with any woman that is in business is to remind yourself that mental health is wealth and self-care is the best care. Let that be your top priority because we cannot pour from an empty cup. Let’s dispel the myth that we have to be superwoman and let us learn to ask for help.

bees, but we always venture back outdoors. It was so funny the other day, watching my puppy catch a bee in her mouth, then quickly spit it out. I was relieved that she didn’t get stung, and we enjoyed staying outside a little longer. Good job, Nyla! I also love the ripe summer fruits, like watermelon, strawberries and peaches. They are a healthy indulgence that I look forward to every season.

Living in Michigan, I appreciate and enjoy the warmth of the summer sun with a cooling breeze. It makes me smile and brings relief to the stresses of the day. It’s also a great reminder that the Son of God is shining upon us and encouraging our hearts with the warmth of his love. My favorite summer activity is sitting on my porch, relaxing in my chair, and watching Nyla, my big puppy, romp around and play. We go out often during the day. She also is a Safe Space Advocate Instructor, a Change Agent and a Community Organizer. Kim has over 35 years of professional experience in advocating for social change and fighting for great causes that affect disadvantaged individuals and groups. Kim is a board member of the Ingham County Racial Equity Taskforce. She is also a published author and an inspirational speaker. She has traveled extensively to share her “Epic Ideas for Change”. Kim is a well-respected entrepreneur and known for her unique knowledge and wisdom on how to motivate people. She recently launched her own public social media broadcast to host “Courageous Conversations” and to tackle tough topics concerning inequities and race relations. WHAT IS KIM CURRENTLY UP TO? Kim uses her voice as a weapon to combat against silence in the face of pervasive and persistent issues of poverty, racism and violence. Kim is connected with various community grassroot organizations as well as churches to provide resources that disrupt the insidious and violent nature of racism and all forms of hate against marginalized communities. The great call on her life is to help support and heal our community. Kim believes that closing our eyes to the social issues will never bring them a solution, Kim has used all of her connections to bring the community, church and businesses together to act against social injustice. Kim is passionate about people. She continues to fight for equity in business and property ownership, equality in employment, inclusion in the board rooms and celebrating diversity. One of My Favorite Things…
Music!
Music, your vocals tell the story of the vivid picture my closed eyes can see. The mellow riffs of the bass, the captivating runs of the sax, the fluidity of the strings, the delicate timbre of the trumpet, the up-tempo of the keys, and the rhythmic duration of the drums collectively produce a masterpiece to my ears, heart, mind, body, and soul. Oh…so sweet are your melodies. Listening to music is one of many ways I effectively practice self-care. Music is a mood regulator. It is the “diffuser” that illuminates the room with the fragrance of soothing sounds, toe-tapping beats, and soul-searching lyrics. Music provides energy while doing Saturday chores. Music provides creativity while writing for that next book. Music sets the tone for intentional selfreflecting. Music gets the party started at the family gathering. Music provides an atmosphere for worship. Music is medicine for the soul. So, I say, turn up the music and let it move you.

With the advice and help from Dr. Carmen Thomas my business has now been re-structured from a sole proprietorship to an LLC. My name also changed to Anna’s Accents’ Creative Designs, LLC. I received my EIN (Employee Identification Number) and took out a liability insurance policy for the business. Unstoppable Women’s Empire has been very instrumental in all the great changes that are happening for my business. I have gained many new customers because of the Popup shops and networking with other vendors there. I have also had opportunities to create custom pieces for some of the women that I met at the Pop-up events.
I am looking forward to a great summer of spending time with my family and getting away for a few days. We have some fun things planned for this summer. I’m making an extra effort to keep eating healthy by meal planning and keeping fresh vegetables, fish, lean meat, and healthy snacks available. Although I find it a bit challenging and a lot of work, I see it as an investment in my health and future. The books that I’m reading right now are “A Wonderful Change” by Dara Mayhoe and “Discover the Keys to Staying Full of God” by Andrew Womack. I am excited to see what is ahead for the rest of this year for my personal life, my business and the Unstoppable Women’s Empire. Stay tuned!

With everything we have going on we need to make time for ourselves so that we can present ourselves to our families, friends, and to the world as sharp, keen, and fresh as possible. To make sure I always show up and show out I always make time for myself by including some form of self-care in my daily routine.
When we hear the words self-care, we may immediately think of going to the spa or the nail salon. These activities are included but there are many other forms of self-care we can practice daily that can cost little to no money and involve items we already possess such as: Reading a book/ magazine Praying Upgrading your food and cleaning out your cabinets and refrigerator Catching up with a friend via phone Taking a walk Polishing your own nails/ toes Playing in makeup Cleaning your home Taking a long bath Watching a movie Exercising, yes exercising Taking a drive Singing
