From Bach to The Beatles by Faith Eckersall From Bach to The Beatles, the Stringendo Quartet promises a feast of music at its Alderholt Village Hall concert later this month. The quartet comprises Charlotte Gallagher and Stephanie Sorrentino on violin, Alison Kay on viola and Philippa Stevens on cello. All four musicians play or have played with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and have performed at prestigious locations throughout the south, including Chewton Glen and Somerley House. In addition to Bach and The Beatles, the programme will also include the melodies of Cole Porter and more contemporary influences. The concert takes place on Friday, May 20, and consists of two sets of 50 minutes each, with an interval. Booking details can be seen here https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/ booking/select/.
Art Weeks of celebration Purbeck Art Weeks Festival 2022 offers an inspiring mix of visual and performing arts from Saturday, May 28, to Sunday, June 12. As always, there is an interesting range of artists’ studios to explore, with many new artists warmly opening their doors to visitors. The PAW collective show at Rollington Barn (near Corfe Castle) features paintings, prints, sculptures, textile art and more by nearly 100 artists. Purbeck’s Young Artists are showing off their creations in the byre, and new this year is a rolling programme of demonstrations from painters, potters, sculptors, woodworkers, silversmiths and glass makers.
We are delighted to be offering a world-class range of events again this year, including the Gabrieli consort and players on the opening night, Inner City Brass, the vocal group Tenebrae, and the Monteverdi String Band with Hannah Ely. Poetry at the Globe in Swanage is complemented by Pennie Denton’s talk celebrating the life and work of local sculptor Mike Bizley. Look out too for Autin outdoor dance theatre and Eko the giant sea puppet in Swanage. For more details about the whole Festival and to buy tickets go to purbeckartweeksfestival.co.uk. Free Brochures can be picked up in venues throughout Purbeck.
Although it is not currently a legal requirement, please consider wearing a face covering to protect yourself and others when visiting the Tivoli.
