All aboard for model trains

Friends of Fordingbridge Parish Church are holding a ‘Big Model Train Event’ this year from 10am-4pm on 19 and 20 in the church hall in Fordingbridge, opposite St Mary’s Church, writes Steve Evans. The event has proved popular both with young families and model train enthusiasts and now that restrictions are easing, we are so pleased to be able to run it again. Model train enthusiast Neil Starmer will be bringing an extensive collection of engines and rolling stock which he runs on a maze of track that covers half of the hall floor. He is particularly proud of his rare model engines. Neil and his team keep up a steady collection of trains, with their coaches and wagons running simultaneously on the tracks throughout both days. Quite a spectacle for all ages to enjoy! Parking is available as are drinks and refreshments. For more information, contact Steve and Diana Evans: mbhywsdi@gmail. com.

Priestley’s hilarious Edwardian send-up

JB Priestley’s farcical comedy When We Are Married plays at the Tivoli Theatre in February. Best known for his timeshifting thriller An Inspector Calls, Priestley also had a great gift for comedy. Set in 1908 in Yorkshire, where Priestley was born, When We Are Married ridicules the smugness and hypocrisy of the Edwardian middle class. Three well-to-do couples - the Helliwells, Parkers and Soppitts - married on the same day, at the same church, and by the same vicar, join to celebrate 25 years of blissful matrimony. The happy celebrations are brought to a sudden halt by a shocking revelation that these pillars of the community aren’t quite as respectably married as they thought they were! As the home truths fly like confetti and conjugal rites turn to farcical fights, an evening of sparkling comic mayhem erupts. With a photographer from the local paper due to arrive any second, a missing housekeeper and a doorbell that won’t stop ringing, can the three couples keep a lid on their embarrassing secret? Penned in 1938, this is a classic comedy that is a blessed union of laughs and surprises. The play is directed by Richard Neal and his cast are Gary Paine, Beverley Beck, Tony Feltham, Boo Feltham, Colin Pile, Tracie BillingtonBeardsley, Rob CordingCook, Jo Eva Edington, Chris Durham, Michelle Barter, Chrissie Neal, Bethan Morris, Richard Scotson and Simon Jackson. When We Are Married is produced by Wimborne
