CHOICE

Choice is a five-storey public library with a 250seat theatrette and an exhibition space for giant animal sculptures. The large sunken public space is positioned at the corner of the two junctions, while the building takes an L-shape configuration and wraps around the public space.

A curved glazed façade maximises visual connectivity and allows natural sunlight into the spaces. Operable timber fins are used to maximise shading as well as to act as a second skin wrapped around the internal fragile glazed skin. The consistent use of timber columns and beams is seen throughout to soften the internal spaces and match the external second skin façade.

The main idea of Choice is to give visitors control in allowing them to choose between three different settings of learning (auditory, visual and kinesthetics). This is done by zoning the requirements of each learning style within different floors and by creating different bands of learning spaces.
