CEO & Founder of Caviar Gold

1. Tell us about a life-changing situation that lead you to where you are today. My family. I had kids and it changed my whole entire life. It made me careful in life. It made me focus more.

Caviar Gold is not just a product for you to use. It’s a connoisseur product. It’s like XO of Alcohol. It’s on the elite shelf.

2. Where did you get the money to start Caviar Gold? I had a flooring company. I just took the little bit of money that I had, back when I sold half of the flooring company to my business partner. Then started a grow in my basement. Then sold that weed and just kept growing, and just kept taking money and reinvesting it. That’s how I did it.

dispensary. This is what made me start Caviar Gold actually. When I first started I got a house in Longmont, Colorado and I started growing in my basement. I did a harvest. Made some money so I was going to open a dispensary. So I opened a dispensary and I went to buy product. I bought thirty pounds of product that tested at 1.2% THC. So I had to figure out how to make that sellable and that’s when I came up with the process to infuse plant material. So I went and got trim and made hash oil out of alcohol and isopropyl. Then I took that hash oil and I tried to put it back into that bud.

3. Any situations where you ever been set up? One time when I opened a

It didn’t work and I had to throw it all away. So I lost all that money and everything

but what I did was plant a seed in my head that I was on to something that I knew could be great. So I just put all my focus towards that. I actually made some product and I took my last fifteen hundred dollars I had to my name. I didn’t even have the money to pay our rent and I took an ad out in Kush Magazine. And I took a picture of the bud and put 56% THC and did a full-page ad for $1,500. Within thirty days I opened up 250 accounts. 4. Wow so one ad had that much impact? Well it wasn’t only just that. Once that hit, I started a rumor that Snoop Dogg demanded my product. All of the dispensaries were like “Well if Snoop Dogg wanted it I want it to” once everybody got it, they realize how good it was and it just kept flowing. 5. How did the name come about? Well first it was Caviar Spice and we were at the Capital in Colorado and I had rolled up ten thousand joints to give away for free at the Capital. I was giving them out and I was like “Hey this is Caviar Spice” and people were freaking out! They was like, “Awwww I don’t want no spice, I don’t want none of that fake weed”. I was like “Awwww man I got to change my name”. So

my wife came up with gold because I got shut down in Colorado and I wasn’t a resident for two years. So we had to move to California and when we got here we were like “well we are in the gold hills” so let’s call it Caviar Gold. Then I took out an ad and said “The gold is back, Caviar Gold” and everybody went nuts. 6. What makes your product different from Moonrocks? People do compare my product to Moon Rocks, so that’s why I started making Moon Rocks because I have to educate the world that my product is way different then Moonrocks. 7. Is it better than Moon rocks? Ten times better. It’s like Moon Rocks on steroids. Caviar Gold is not just a product for you to use. It’s a connoisseur product. It’s like XO of Alcohol. It’s on the elite shelf. You heard of top shelf? This is elite shelf. Everything you want from a bud is going to be in that bud. 8. How many cups have you been awarded? Nine. I entered a cannabis cup in Colorado nine years ago and they said we don’t have a category for you. So they put me under concentrate. I took 8th place in concentrates. With concentrates the first thing that makes it

negative is it leaves an ash. Well there is plant material so it is going to leave an ash. Then potency, there’s no way I can be as strong as a concentrate. There’s no plant material. The judges even came to me and was like “Hey, we are scared to try your product”. When I took 8th place I was like, the judge came to me and told me he was scared to try my product. Then I took 8th place. Then after that I never entered another cup. And I don’t because for marketing purposes. We will be at the cup and they’ll call me “Caviar Gold you won another trophy” and I was like, “Well I didn’t even enter what are you talking about?”. 9. Any advice for anyone looking to open up his or her own shop? Don’t plan to make any money for a minimum of six months. Whatever you plan make sure you have every bill covered for at least six months. 10. What would be next for Caviar Gold? The way I see it all just began last year. When they went recreational and started giving out license’s so people don’t have to worry about it. You can do what your suppose to do as a company. So right now is the beginning and I’m looking forward to the next ten years. @Caviargoldmed

John Singleton

John Singleton was an American film director and screenwriter best known for directing Boyz N The Hood in 1991. From that he became the first African American and youngest person to have ever been nominated for an Academy Award for best director. Some of his other well known films include Poetic Justice, Higher Learning, Baby Boy, Rosewood, Shaft, 2 Fast 2 Furious, Four Brothers, and Snowfall. On April 17, 2019 John was placed under intensive care due to suffering from a stroke. By the 25th of April sources say he was in a coma. On April 29th he was removed from life support where he was pronounced dead at Cedars-Sinai Hospital at the age 51. John argued that popular studios refused to let African-Americans direct black-themed films. He stated that they wanted black people to be who they want them to be, as opposed to what they are.

1. Introduce yourself to the world? My name is King Tha Rapper, I’m an 18 year old Rapper / Producer from Los Angeles, California who is currently signed to Capitol Music Group. You may know me from the work I did with Tha Dogg Pound, I am the youngest member of the D.P.G.

2. What inspired you to make music? A lot of my family has been in the entertainment industry all my life. Growing up I was in studios, on film sets, shooting commercials, etc. etc. As I got older I just really took a passion to producing and I quickly realized I needed someone to

make a song to my beats & that’s when I decided to rap. 3. Tell everyone about your single with Kurupt? In early 2015 I released a single entitled “I.M.O (In My Opinion)” featuring west coast rap legend and original member of “Tha Dogg Pound” Kurupt Young

Gotti. The single received over 180k plays online & peaked #35 for five months straight on national airplay charts. 4. What do you want people to take home after experiencing a King The Rapper show? When I perform I want people to take home a new favorite artist.

3. What’s popping with you? Let me tell ya. If you go to Jameszito.com and that’s zito some people don’t really get it. I only have the one T because I’m Italian I couldn’t afford the second T. So it’s Jameszito.com that will show you all the movies, soap opera that I’m in and the new shows I have coming out like Sin Senos Sí Hay Paraíso in which is the number one show on Telemundo.

It’s out of Columbia and what’s happening that’s also on Netflix. This spring season I play a CEA-Agent to the number one Carmen is her name so you’ll see that coming up soon. 4. How did you make a name for yourself? My mom and dad did that. My mom started off then my dad. They wanted me to be a dentist actually. They got me involved

with theatre in elementary school. I’m glad I did it now because things are coming together. I am very blessed to be where I am now. 5. How is the Las Vegas scene for you as a celebrity? The Las Vegas scene is absolutely fantastic. I think it’s a great scene here it’s come a long way since I got here in 1989 and you just never know who you going to see on the streets. You just never know. Vegas came such a long way. It used to be where you maybe see one or two celebrities here and now you can just be on the street and just bump into someone in a restaurant so its really great. It’s come a long way. 6. Do people run up to you and say “Awww that’s James can I get a photo”? Actually I’m very blessed that that does happen and my wife puts up with it. Her name is Rozelle she is my Pocahontas. She’s my strength and everything I have is because of her. The first red carpet was nerve wrecking for her and yeah they do that. I take it as a huge compliment because I know some stars don’t like being approached but without the fans and everyone we have nothing. People really need to realize that. So I absolutely love that and I love everything about the fans. 7. Who’s your inspiration and idols? Believe it or not Elvis Presley was one of my idols back in the day but then when I realized he was just an actor it was really my dad and he’s not an actor. He was just a great inspiration to me. Everything I do, and my mom they supported me with everything. I’m the only child. All the actors are great. Gosh there’s to many to list but Elvis was a big one. Although, like Eddie Murphy he would say “A lot of us couldn’t act so they made him sing” in his TV shows. Yeah, it’s just so many greats. 8. Have any film producers/ filmmakers ever asked you to have sex with them to be in their film? Yes, that’s the reason why I’m not a household name…. This is for everyone that’s out there men or woman. It doesn’t matter what sex you are it will happen. They will approach you with things. I would have been more of a household name if I would have done the things they asked me to do sexually or whatever.

With the TV its been really great with Netflix they been treating me really well and Telemundo.

As a younger man, when I had a better body they asked me to do a lot of nude scenes. I turned them down. They took a lot of great photos of me that they wanted to be in Play Girl. Which I don’t put Playgirl down or Playboy down or anything like that however, you don’t need to do that to advance in this business. 9. What’s next? With the TV its been really great with Netflix they been treating me really well and Telemundo. So its finally great because they use to always pick me for the bad guy however, now I finally get to play police roles and stuff like that. So hopefully more good guy roles because I would rather portray that than a bad guy. jameszitoiii Interviewed by: David Solis Photos by: David Solis

1. What made you want to start a career in music? I discovered I could sing at four years young. Being raised in the church my moms could sing, my pops can sing my sister can sing. So I got in front of the church, I did “Troubles don’t last always” and my family thought I had a gift. At eight, I knew I wanted to do it professionally. Did the Apollo in 1998 &1999 and got discovered by Joyce Irby, Dallas Austin and got signed to Capitol Records out here in LA. I just love the ability to make people feel good. To make people smile and to entertain, and the gift of song everybody speaks that. It’s the universal language so to be blessed with such a gift and be able to do it for twenty years now professionally. That’s crazy. So I always knew I was good at that and then I wanted to be great at it. 2. How did you get adults to take you serious as a kid? It’s just a gift from GOD and then really honing in on your gift. I’ve always had grown people say I have an anointing on my voice. I think that comes from the soul and the

passion. That’s why I’m still around because I have that effect to make you feel me. Auto tune these days has taken that feeling away so I try to deviate from that and give you real passion, vulnerability, substance, and things that can impact your spirit. Cause I tell people all the time. If I can get your spirit and your soul, I’ll make myself everlasting. 3. Who was Sammie before the Fame? I got fame at 12. Before then, I was just this kid in Florida that loved football and loved basketball. I used to think I was going to be a NFL star until I stopped growing and became like R&B height. I love to make people laugh. I always loved family. I was very family orientated. I am very sound in my spirituality. My mom and pops kept me in church again, to always believe in a higher power. Always to pay respects to my creator and always to never be about self and to always be more selfless.

4. How did the deal with Capital Records happen? When I was on the Apollo I did “My Cherie Amour” by Stevie Wonder. I was and still am a big Stevie Wonder fan. A woman named Joyce Irby who used to be the lead singer of this 70’s group called the Climax, saw me perform in the middle of the night or the wee hours of the morning. Contacted my mother, flew down to meet her, then flew to meet me. I sang on this tape. It was like an audition tape sort of speak. She sent it to Dallas Austin and Dallas Austin signed me on the spot. Told her to not show anyone else the tape. He wanted to sign me. He flew me and my family out to Atlanta and I worked on my debut album “From the bottom to the Top”. 5. What was your favorite single on that album? People would think, “I like it” because you know of course that was the record that changed my life. But

actually I didn’t even like that song when I first did it. So it goes to show how much I knew at 12. If I had to think, I would say Hero because it’s dedicated to my moms and my pops. They’ve been very instrumental and they sacrificed so much for me to live the life I’ve been living man. I’ve been really seeing the world all my life. Doing music. I never had to work a job. You know what I’m saying. So it doesn’t really feel

like work. This isn’t work for me. No matter how many interviews I do. No matter how many photoshoots, visuals, and tours I go on. It’s a gratifying thing to just be doing what your blessed to do. You know what I mean. So I’ve been basking in purpose and passion since a young boy. So I would say Hero because my parents really really are my hero’s in life. 6. What was your biggest setback in your music career and how did you bounce back? Oh, easy 2009 man while “Kiss Me Through the Phone” was booming with Soulja. My ex manager who at that time I viewed as a big brother took everything from me. My car, had a benz, My American Express, he was the primary account holder on. He liquidated my account. Forged signatures on documents

just like these horror stories you hear artist go through. Yeah I can smile about it now but it was hell then, I didn’t have shit. I’ll never forget you know, being depressed and suffering from insomnia, and taking Amdien to go to sleep at night but one day I woke up and realized I still had my gift. I still had my loving fans and most of all a GOD. So I was able to bounce back, it took seven years. I had to sign myself to myself Star Camp Music. Learn how to write music from top to bottom. Pick songs sequence them, spend my own money now on studio time. To formulate a team it took 7 years. Then, finally I go viral like three years ago on The Shade Room. Since then I’ve had 4 chart topping projects released. I’ve been on tour with Tank, I go on tour this June for my own Everlasting Tour. They just

Treating people with respect, being mannerable, saying Thank you. The same people you pass going up are the same people you may need coming down. brought me out on the Millennium Tour in Atlanta. Ripped it in front of my city twenty two thousand people and that was a blessing shout out to Llyod and all my brothers that’s on the Millennium Tour for showing me so much love and embracing me. So it’s crazy to think ten years ago I had nothing and now I have a lot. You know what I’m saying. So to anyone that’s going through any kind of struggle just keep GOD first, keep going forward take it one day at a time. Only focus on the things you can change and let GOD handle the things you can’t. 7. Your music video for face-toface you give out the hotline number for those thinking suicidal thoughts. Has there ever been a moment where you felt like you wanted to commit suicide or talk someone out of it? Well I never wanted to commit suicide. Even through depression that’s not me. I didn’t give myself life so I’m definitely not taking my own. So I never had that day or that thought in my mind. That’s something I don’t play with, I’ve actually talked friends out of committing suicide. I never allowed my mind to go there. I’m too strong and to basked in faith and Godliness to do that. However, I will tell people who’s out there suffering from suicidal thoughts, it gets better.

You really just have to just focus on the positives in your life. If not you can drown in sorrow and think that suicide is the answer. In my Face–to-face video that’s out now you’ll see the end where it’s kind of gloomy. It’s about a man who’s committed infidelity a multitude of times and finally this woman can’t take it no more. She does something drastic like that. It has of course the hotline number for those who are thinking suicidal thoughts because I understand the depression is real. The people that are smiling and putting all these positive post up on social media are sometimes the ones that are hurting the most. They’re doing that for themselves, hoping for a helping hand and hoping to resonate with people that feel the same way that they feel. So me personally, never had a suicidal thought. I always knew I would be right here. I always knew I’d be the vessel to speak life into other people’s lives.

ago, four millions views in a day. Those same people were trying to sign me. Those same people were reaching out to see if I had management at the time.

8. First thing you bought when you got your first big check? Back in the day, I was a young boy at 12. I would say a four-wheeler actually. I was 12 years old and I love to ride 4 wheelers. I always liked speed. So I like jet skies, I’ve sky dived twice, I’ve jumped off a 40-foot cliff in Maui, and just did a front flip in Tulum Mexico. So I’m a wild dude when it comes to just thrill seeking. I don’t have a death wish or nothing but I just like to live life. So at 12 I bought myself a 4- Wheeler, at 18 I got myself a Benz, and at 20 I bought myself a house. Those are the biggest investments I’ve made thus far. 9. What is one key component that the industry taught you in the 20 years you’ve been in it? To be a visionary and to not allow someone’s “No” to detour you from your dream. Some people do see it. Some people don’t think that you still have it. I’ve heard A&R’s tell me that I’ve peeked. You know what I’m saying. Then, again I go viral off of just singing a clip on Instagram three years

So I would tell everybody that’s trying to get in this game. Whether you produce, whether you write, whether you sing, whether you rap, just keep going that’s the hardest shit to do. It’s the simplest thing to say but its the hardest thing to do when all the doors seemed to be closed in front of you, you feel me. When no one is giving you a chance and the opportunity to prove yourself. Create the opportunity, be the door, kick the shit down. You know what I’m saying. Just keep going forward. Your one blessing away, you’re one yes away from your whole life changing. 10. How do you have a healthy relationship with yourself? Self-care is imperative. I can’t help my mom and my pops and my siblings if I’m not right. So I pray every day, I meditate. I read things that strengthen my spirit and my mental and my intellect. That’s just how I am. I got to be right so I can make sure my family is right and my crew is right. 11. Any advice you can give on how to stay relevant in the game? Yeah, don’t follow the trend be the wave. I don’t follow nobodies trend. No one sounds like Sammie, no one talks like Sammie, nobody looks like Sammie, nobody walks like me. It’s only one me. You can be inspired by other people and you can pull from the greats of course. Also relationships. It’s 90% relationships, 10% talent. I keep my shirt clean. That’s something my manager Skino and I always

talk about. Treating people with respect, being mannerable, saying Thank you. The same people you pass going up are the same people you may need coming down. So a lot of things that I get done in my career and my life is because people like me outside of my talent. They like the character, the morals, ethics, and my code that I live by. I would say don’t ever ever ever feel your self. Stay down to earth man. 12. Celebrity crush? I don’t have those no more you know I’m taking so hahaha I don’t want no trouble. I used to have one back in the day. When I was young. Maybe Ciara but I don’t have those these days. 13. What you look for in a woman? She got to be godly. She has to have ambition. She has to be understanding cause I live a different lifestyle then most. It’s unique. Then a dreamer you feel me like I’m a dreamer. I make more than a decent living doing something a lot of people could do. A lot of people could sing, a lot of people can dance, a lot of people can entertain, but I feel so different about myself and my gift I think I stand out you feel me. I like that in a woman. She has to be confident, I sing to woman for a living. So just the same characteristics and attributes that a woman I’m dating loves about me, is the same things that these thousands of woman loves about me across the nation. So she has to be very very confident herself. And of course I have to do my job to secure her. www.sammiealways.com sammiealways sammiealways Photo Credit: David Solis

Caviar Gold Cavi Cone Product Review

On April 20th we experienced the joint of all joints. Caviar Gold blessed us with a Cavi Cone Cannabis infused with THC oil & strawberry pre-rolled joint. Once given the Cavi Cone I was warned not to smoke the whole joint. In fact I was told to take four puffs, put it out, and wait a minute to see how it feels. Once I got home from Caviar Gold’s 420 event at Herbarium I sparked up the Cavi Cone with my friends and begin the session. I warned everyone that Mike CEO of Caviar Gold told me his product was like Moonrock on steroids. It was 4 people to the joint. One smoker tapped out after the very first round. We ended up smoking the whole Cavi Cone anyways. We was so blown we started to fall asleep about thirty minutes after. I tried to fight my high but I couldn’t. The Cavi Cone had everyone in a straight weed coma. I ended up falling asleep with the light on, computer still open, and dressed. I woke up the next morning high. I highly recommend any weed smoker to cop Caviar Gold if your looking the best experience. It really is Moonrock on steroids.

Honey 1. How did you get your name? My name is Ricara Cheyenne Honee. So I’ve always been Honey. My grandmother called me that when I was little. I’ve also always been passionate about fashion, and a few years ago I told myself I would initially start my line. I asked my grandmother about name recommendations and she said “Honee,” So after my grandma passed away and I started writing music, Honey just seemed natural. I changed the last “E” to a “Y” because I’ve always preferred that spelling.

@ricaracheyenne ricaracheyenne

2. What inspired you to start making music? I was in a music group with my brothers when I was younger called “Devore Kids.” but it wasn’t really my focus. My brother, “King Tha Rapper” has always wanted to be a musician though, and in the spring of 2016 he was recording an EP and I was in the studio with him a lot. Witnessing the creative process with a close lens inspired me to give it a try. 3. How do you feel about today’s hip-hop? I feel like we are a funny generation. We’re obviously inspired by the greats because of our parent’s influence, but a lot of today’s youth demean the old school because they don’t realize the influences artist of the past have had on their favorite artist today. To keep it real, the OG’s are the reason why we create art the way we do. I think there are a lot of talented musicians coming up now and we’re witnessing history repeat the pattern of new legends emerging every generation. 4. What is next? I’m working on an EP that will hopefully drop before the summer, as well as a longer mixtape by the end of the year. I’ll be touring soon probably, and I’m also working on new music videos, getting back into acting, and am currently in the process of launching my fashion line. 2019 everything’s taking off.

Founders Note I’m literally bumping “Ready To Die” while writing this. I remember the first time I met B.I.G. it was not the real B.I.G. because unfortunately he passed away and I wasn’t on yet. But I met B.I.G from the movie. It was about two years ago during the B.E.T Experience I seen B.I.G. We took a photo and chopped it up real quick. Biggie is my favorite rapper of all time and my idol. I’ve admired Biggie since a kid just listening to his music I was so into it. I then had a dream of becoming a pop star just like Biggie Smalls.

Vegas. She is our newest member on board and her creative direction has taken our shoots to the next level. I wasn’t mad that my squad couldn’t make the shoot because it was so last minute. I just knew I was not going to let the opportunity pass. I opened up my laptop and went to Youtube and pulled up Sammie’s first album and played it. That motivated and prepared me for the whole shoot. I wrote up his interview, picked a location, which happened to be the LA River and wrapped up the process.

This issue came faster then ever. I made one of the biggest decisions of my life. Switching over to monthly. I thank the lord for giving me the ability to publish. I believe this switch will be for the best. It’s so much going on everyday we wanted to give our readers an even closer look inside the industry.

The next morning, I was on my way to the shoot and I put the location in my maps. While driving on the freeway I noticed I was going the wrong way. So, I turned off my GPS and got off the freeway and drove towards downtown LA. I drove to the LA Bridge because I knew it was close to the LA River. I get to the location to discover the LA River was getting torn down. It was so much construction going on. I had to think of something Asap. Thank God, I got there one hour before the shoot to check the scene out.

It was a pleasure working with Sammie. I learned so much from him within the hour and a half we were together collaborating on this project. Big shout out to Nikki Rich of The Nikki Rich Show for plugging me with Sammie. I got a call from Nikki asking did I want to interview Sammie. I said “yea of course”. I was already a huge fan of Sammie from back in the days. I knew his whole first album from the Bottom to the Top, word for word. I got on the phone with his publicist and was told Sammie had just landed in LA. He had a one-hour gap open in- between his schedules for interviews with a booming platform the next day. I said lets do it. After I got off the phone I was like “damn what did I just get myself into”. I had to pull off a celebrity photo shoot in 24 hours. I’ve never in my life done this before. I usually have a week or more to prepare but 24 hours never. Everyone was busy except JG and Enola. Big shout out to Enola for driving all the way from Las

Concrete Studios was right down the street so I decided to use the building behind it for the shoot. While looking at the locations I came across a bunch of broken glass in wood boxes I thought would be dope for the shoot. I saw a security over there near them so I went over and talked to him. I asked about the property and if I could shoot there. He told me he had no idea and he wasn’t watching over that property. So, I walked into the building to find out who was in charge. I was sent on a straight runaround. Nobody knew who was in charge. I ended up finding an office and they told me to “go up the stairs to the second floor and make a left and I would see the manager’s office”. So I did that and instead I seen a bunch of open photography studios. I thought to myself “wow this is amazing where did they lead me”.

There was not a single person was on the floor. Turns out I went the wrong way so I went back to the first office and told them I got lost. Then they personally walked me to the manager’s office. I seen the manager’s assistant as soon as I got there and explained the situation to her. She told me her manager would charge for something like that. I told her it was just going to be for a few minutes, I didn’t even need twenty minutes. She said she would ask her manager. I am now in the manager’s office and I explained the situation to her and she told me $2,500 for everything. She expected me to fill paperwork out and pay her and do all of this in twenty minutes. It was impossible. I told her thank you for her time and to have a nice day. Sammie was twenty/thirty minutes away since I texted his publicist the new location. As I’m leaving the manager’s office the assistant tells me to just take a few photos no one will ever know. So I did just that. Once Sammie got there the shoot went so smooth. We shot outside first, then went inside to the second floor I found by accident. Only Sammie and I went inside. They actually wanted to meet Sammie. I did Sammie’s whole interview in a $2,500 studio on the second floor free of charge. Nobody knows the bullshit I went through before hand but I’m telling you now. I said all that to say never fold under pressure, there are ways around things that get in your way. Some things don’t go as planned like me getting to the location and it being shut down. Always stay on your toes and go with your gut. I could’ve canceled the entire shoot but instead I turned a negative to a positive. I am now in contact with Sammie and plan on working on some music with him in the future. Stay tune.

May 21, 1972 a legend was born by the name of Christopher George Latore Wallace better known as The Notorious B.I.G., Biggie Smalls, and or Biggie. Rolling Stone described him as “a mountain of man, 6 ft 3 in, black as tar, with a W.C Fields scowl and a lazy left eye.” Wallace was born in St. Mary’s Hospitals in Brooklyn, New York. Biggie was the only child of his Jamaican parents. His mother Voletta Wallace was a preschool teacher and his father Selwyn George Latore a welder and politician. His father left his family when he was just two years of age. Big attended The Roman Catholic Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School then transferred to George Westinghouse Career and Technical Education High School with alumni’s like DMX, Jay Z, and Busta Rhymes. Big was a truant and shortly after became a high school dropout in 1989 at the age 17. Instead of being at school Big sold drugs near his mom’s apartment on St. James Place. His drug-selling phase started at the age 12. His peers with flashy jewelry and nice sneakers motivated him. He got arrested in 1989 on weapons possession charges and received five years probation. Biggie was the biggest thing popping out of New York City. Funny thing is he had no serious plans to pursue a career in music. He started out free styling in cypher sessions over beat boxing to entertain people in his neighborhood. The city started to recognize Biggie’s powerful flow

on the microphone. After Big got released from jail, he made a demo tape under the name Biggie Smalls named after a gang leader from the 1975 movie “Lets Do It Again”. He labeled himself as a gangster rapper just like Tupac. Pac accused Biggie’s camp for being responsible for the shooting that went down at Quad Studios. Pac signed to Death Row Records and the East Coast and West Coast Beef began between the two. Biggie’s demo reached the hands of Sean “Puffy” Combs an A&R for Uptown Records at the time. Combs set up a record deal for Biggie, but left the record label soon after due to some issues he had with his boss Andre Harrell. As a result, Puffy started his own label and called it Bad Boy Records and signed Biggie in 1992. Uptown Records released Biggie’s records prior to him leaving the label and signing to Puffy. Big went through a lawsuit with the label and was forced to change his recording name from Biggie Smalls. In 1993 Bad Boys released The Notorious B.I.G’s first single “Party and Bullshit”. One month after Juicy released The Notorious B.I.G. dropped his debut album “Ready to Die”. His album went certified gold within two months, double platinum the following year, and eventually went quadruple-platinum. “Big Poppa,” was nominated for a Grammy for best rap solo performance. Biggie ended up marrying his label mate on Bad Boy Faith Evans on August 4th, 1994. They linked up at a Bad Boy photo shoot. Faith ended up getting featured on “One More Chance”. Then, later on went on to bless Biggie with his first son, Christopher “CJ” Wallace Jr. on October 29, 1996. In 1995 The Notorious B.I.G dropped his second album with Junior Mafia (an acronym for Masters at Finding Intelligent Attitudes) titled Conspiracy. The group was formed to mentor younger rappers. Biggie became the only hip-hop artist to collaborate with Michael Jackson on the single “This Time Around”. He also was on R. Kelly “Eponymous” album. He was the biggest selling solo male artist on the billboard charts by the end of 1995. The Notorious B.I.G was the definition of mainstream.

In 1997 Big got his car repossessed for smoking Marijuana. As a result Wallace rented a Chevrolet Lumina in the meantime. The car had brake issues but Smalls paid no mind to it. They ended up getting in an accident while Lil Cease was driving at the time. Wallace injured his left leg and as a result stayed months in the hospital. Wallace was in a wheelchair for a moment then worked his way up to a cane. Therapy helped him get better. He was still working on his album while he was in the hospital. The month of February 1997 Biggie took a trip to California to promote his album he just released titled “Life After Death” and to shoot his music video to his hit single “Hypnotize” off the album. Biggie attended the 11th Annual Soul Train Music Awards in Los Angeles and got booed while presenting an award to Toni Braxton. Biggie attended the after party of the awards hosted by Vibe at the Petersen Automotive Museum. Around 12:30 a.m. the fire department shut down the party due to over capacity. Big left the club with his crew while Puffy followed in separate car. All of a sudden a Chevy Impala pulls up on Biggie’s car. Rolls down the window and fire shots at Biggie. Biggie was hit by four bullets and rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and pronounced dead at 1:15 A.M. Biggie’s funeral was on March 18, 1997 at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel. Rest in peace. Today would have been The Notorious B.I.G’s 47th birthday.
