Letter From the President Grace Larsen

Friends, advisors, and sisters of the Panhellenic community, thank you for an incredible semester! The dedication that each and every one of you has put forth, has led to an outstanding start to 2016. Panhellenic delegates worked especially hard during the bylaw revision process. If you haven’t already, look over the bylaw revisions that will improve the Panhellenic community in Fall 2016 and in years to come! I hope you all do great on your finals and have a happy summer!

Tips for the month:

How to Survive Finals Panhellenic study session: 5-9pm Monday May 9th in Willis 250J Snacks, come take a break or study with a group. We will have Starbucks gift card giveaways too! Study tips: Budget your time for each final. If you have two in one day, start studying ahead of time, don’t wait until the day before. Don’t have time to head to the writing lab? Try the app Grammarly.com to help you correct and perfect your final papers. It checks for 10 times as many errors as a word processor.

We had a blast at our Coastal Craze themed formal on April 8th. It was held at The Room on Main in Dallas. We danced, ate and took great pictures in the photobooth. Thanks to our awesome social chair for planning it out! We have also enjoyed participating in everyone’s philanthropy events this past month. We would also like to thank every one for participation in our annual Mocktails blend-off, we can’t wait for next years! We would also like to wish everyone luck finals!

April has been an exciting, busy month for Chi Omega! We were honored to receive Academic Excellence, the Involvement cup, and congratulations to our sister Karen Alday for being awarded Panhellenic Woman of the Year! Also, congratulations to our sister, Barrett Cole, for being elected Student Government Association Vice President! We are so proud of you, and we can’t wait to see what you accomplish next year. We had a scholarship event at the lodge, and we learned about the importance of good study habits and the dangers of bad ones. We had a yoga (Chi Yoga) event at the lodge, too! All of us got together in our chapter room, and a Chi Omega alumna led us through a yoga session. We had three big events dedicated to our philanthropy, Make a Wish. We had a Kendra Scott give back night, and ten percent of the sales were donated. We participated in Walk for Wishes in Dallas. All of the proceeds went to the foundation, and we got to meet Pierson! We granted his wish to go to Monster Jam truck rally in Las Vegas. We held a welcome back party at the lodge for him and his friends. There was an ice cream bar, tons of snacks, and musical chairs, and he also told us all about his Monster Jam experience. We had an awesome time, and it warmed our hearts to see how much joy we helped bring to Pierson and his family. Our eighties themed date party was this month, and it was a blast. We went to main event to play laser tag, arcade games, bowling, and there was an awesome photo booth! We have had so much fun, and we’ve put in a lot of hard work this semester, and we are so excited for recruitment! We can’t wait to welcome our new pledge class in the fall. Remember to register by August 2016.

HIIT workouts have continued throughout the month, and others sister held new events such as: Astronomy class and Healthy Eating. Members attended Dallas Lighthouse to serve food and play bingo with the visually impaired, and a Kendra Scott give back night was held in Southlake to raise money for Service for Sight. This event was very successful, and we ended up raising $700 for our philanthropy! Desserts with DG was also a success, so thank you to everyone who came out! Sisters got together for date party at Sneaky Pete’s in Lewisville, Mom’s day at the movie theater and Take Back the Night. Instagram: @UNTDELTAGAMMA

We want to thank everyone who came out to support us throughout the week for Shamrock! We raised money for PCAA though a Milpa fundraiser, our tabling event: Pinwheels for Prevention, a spaghetti dinner and our first ever Shamrock Maddes basketball tournament. The competition was very tough but Delta Sigm Phi took home to gold. Thank you so much fo all the support throughout the week! We also help our first annual Flamingo Flock Date PArty. Our sisters “flocked their dates by outting a flamingo with an invitation of the man she wanted to take and to say yes they returned it to our yard. We are excited about making this a tradition. We also had our White Rose sisterhood retreat! Sisters came in matching PJs with their set groups and we played games witht hose groups and grew closer! WE are so ecited to see what the fall brings us with recruitment!

The ladies of Zeta Sigma feel truly blessed and humbled to have received the award of Chapter of the Year. This esteemed recognition makes us want to continue striving to better ourselves. Our chapter had the privilege of welcome six beautiful new sisters to Kappa Kappa Gamma. We are so proud of the Spring 2016 pledge class and look forward to the fantastic contributions they will make. We also had a wonderful sisterhood event to bring our chapter together. The spa party, or “SPArty”, allowed for some much needed pampering while bonding as a sisterhood. We would like to wish everyone good luck with their upcoming final exams. Our sisters are excited for summer break! Some vacation plans include trips to Paris, Ireland, London and China. More than anything, we look forward to Fall 2016 Formal Recruitment. Kappa can’t wait to welcome more women into our sisterhood! Have a wonderful summer!

The ladies of Pi Beta Phi are loving the month of April! We have participated in many events and are planning on hosting and participating in many more before the month comes to an end. At the beginning of April, Pi Phi was recognized at the annual Greek Awards for being Intramural Champions & having the best academics in the new member class of spring ’15. We are very proud to announce we have initiated seven incredible new members into our sisterhood this month! We’re very excited to be hosting Beta Bash once again, due to weather conditions in the month of March we had to reschedule our fun events. Events we plan to include in Beta Bash are Pop’s with Pi Phi, where we give popsicles for donations on campus, and Pie a Pi Phi where people from all across campus can pie our members in the face. At Pi Phi we value our strong sisterhood, this April we hosted a sisterhood event where Carly Giesbrecht spoke to us over lunch about true sisterhood and its importance in Greek Life. Other sisterhood events we had include a spa day, a tie dye event, and we’ll be having a week long ‘Study with Pi Phi’ event to prepare for finals! Our Mom’s day will consist of visiting the Dallas Arboretum and attending a trunk show here in Denton. Following Mom’s Day were hosting our annual Founder’s Day at the Trophy Club Country Club where we will honor our founders and 150 years of Pi Beta Phi! We always love participating in the fraternity events on campus, this month we’ve participated in Pi Kappa Phi’s War of the Roses, Alpha Tau Omega’s Cupcake Throwdown, and Delta Sigma Phi’s Doggy Days. Finally, participating in Greek Preview was such an exciting time and we are more than thrilled to have met potential new members! We cannot wait for recruitment in the Fall

For the week we had three tabking events on campus where we were selling baked gods for a dollar, we hosted a Lip Sync competition and concluded the week with a Golf Tournament. Congrats to the men of Sigma Nu for winning Think Pink Week. Overall we raised over $10,000 for beast cancer. th n o M e h t f o n a m o W ic n Panhelle The woman behind the letters

Thuy Tien Doan The woman behind these lettters has become an inspiration to those around her. This woman was not nominated by her chapter, but by a member of our Exec Board who recongizes this woman for her accomplishments in the community. “Thuy Tien Doan is very active in Pi Beta Phi! Thuy always has the best attitude at pi phi events and while participating in others’ philanthropy events! She has a special talent of making everyone around her feel happier and smile brighter. Thuy represents Pi Phi at Jr Panhellenic and enjoys getting to know her pan sisters better. Whenever a volunteer is needed Thuy is the first to raise her hand! Even though she’s younger than me, I try to be like Thuy a little more every day.” Thuy wasn’t planning on rushing because she didn’t know anything about Panhellenic or being in a sorority but a really good friends encouraged her to do so and she is thankful everyday that she listened to her. Choosing a chapter for anyone can be difficult for anyone but sometimes the cliche answers really describe the feeling of finding a home. “Pi Phi was where I felt most at home and most comfortable when I was going through recruitment, plus I love Pi Phi’s philanthropy!” Thuy said. To Thu being a Panhellenic woman means to promote and live up to the values not only through the campus but in the communities. “I try to be on my best behavior and put on a good attitude at all times regardless if I’m in my letters or not, I try my best to represent pi phi in a positive way,” Thuy said. Being apart of a sorority you are being apart of a bigger picture or even a puzzle. Each indidvual member is a piece of that puzzle. “I am extremely involved in my chapter by attending of the events but also helping out with all of the events that I can,” Thuy said. There is something to said about women who support other women and Thuy believe that this is something that the Panhellenic community does well. “I think UNT has great pan love, I know I have good friends in other sororities and so do others. although there may be competition between the different sororities, at the end of the day, we support each other,” The woman behind the betters is a strong and extremely self-confident woman. Thuy has been the picture of a Panhellenic woman should look like. Thuy has made it a point to build relationships with women in different chapters. “Being Greek is about making friendships and connections that will last for the rest of my life. it is about being apart of something bigger than yourself,” Thuy said.
