Benefits of Living in University Accommodation Most University accommodation is on or next to our Parkgate Road Campus, or conveniently located in the city; see our accommodation map on pages 16-17. Our range of accommodation options means there is something to suit everyone’s budget. Living on campus means you have everything you need close by, including lecture rooms, the main library, Students’ Union, sports facilities, gym, cafés, restaurants, student shop, laundry facilities and - most importantly - your new friends.

You’ll also only be a short walk away from Chester city centre where there are plenty of things to do, from listening to live music and sampling street food at the awardwinning indoor Chester Market*, to visiting Storyhouse, Chester’s cultural centre which is home to a library, theatre and cinema, and was awarded ‘Best Entertainment Venue’ at FX International Design Awards, 2018. *Great British Market Awards Winner 2020 - Best Small Indoor Market.

All of our accommodation offers a safe and secure environment for you to live, study and socialise. 24/7 University security service. Out-of-hours support for welfare issues. Responsive maintenance service based on Parkgate Road Campus. Communal cleaning service provided. Rent includes utility bills and insurance. University managed internet service. Cycle shelters on all sites and cycle routes from Parkgate Road to Queen’s Park, Riverside, Thornton Science Park and Creative Campus, Kingsway. Our award-winning chefs provide a range of freshly cooked meals and our catering schemes offer huge savings and help students budget.

6-7

Food and Drink on Campus There are plenty of places to find a bite to eat or go for coffee with friends on our campuses, here are just a few examples:

White’s Dining Rooms

The Gourmet Burger House

You have lots to choose from at White’s, including a sandwich bar, hot paninis, homemade soups, wok bar and meat free bar.

The clue is in the name – if you want a burger, this is the place to come; the meat is sourced from our local butcher and we’ve got veggie options too.

The Bar The Bar is home to our very own Pizzeria. Holding a huge variety of different events throughout the year, you can sing karaoke into the early hours, enjoy salsa nights, try out meditation sessions and watch live sports.

Binks Grab & Go If you’re dashing to your next lecture but fancy a coffee, our grab and go café is perfect for a quick pick me up.

Our Sustainable Food Policy means we try and work with local suppliers where possible to reduce food miles and support local economies.

A Home from Home

Our Residential Life Team

Residential Life Team

Our Residential Life Team is here to help you settle in and make the most of your university experience. Our team is trained to support your wellbeing and because our Residential Advisors are current students, and Residential Coordinators are either postgraduate students or recently graduated members of staff, they’ve all been in the same position as you.

You will meet your Residential Advisors or Residential Coordinators during the first week of Induction. They will hold regular “Flat Chats” in your house or hall to offer information and advice on a number of subjects, including: accessing support services, volunteering, sustainability, enhancing your employability, and Students’ Union campaigns.

Coordinators and Advisors provide support 24-hours a day, 7 days a week during term time.

They also plan social events such as walks, film nights and quiz nights for each weekend of the first term to help you get to know other students.

“Everyone is in the same boat in first year so making friends can be hard at first but living at Parkgate Road meant we were able to get to know our neighbours easily and I now live with the same housemates in second year! I’ve definitely made good friends for life. I love that we are so close to the city centre because it means everything is easily accessible and no need to spend money on public transport.”

“It’s been a great experience meeting new people and learning to live with people who I haven’t met before, it gives you many skills that are needed in adulthood! The Residential Life team are also amazing, very friendly and always there when I have needed anything. I have enjoyed having friends and family from back home to visit and explore the city with. Living on campus means I can easily go to the on-site shop for any food items I need, and can easily be at my lectures on time.”
