The Gateway Certificate in Professional Education is a new university-level (Level 4) qualification that has been designed for people who are either new in their role, or who want to develop their professional skills, while at work. You can also do this course if you are looking to return to the workplace, or change employment.

Throughout the course you will have access to the Careers and Employability team to assist you to understand your current position and your potential for development. You will be allocated an Academic Coach from the University of Chester. Working together with your Academic Coach and your employer, you will identify issues or projects in your workplace and these will become the focus of your learning. You will be assessed in ways that can bring practical benefit to your workplace. For example, this could be a presentation or a report.
The course focuses directly on your own current work challenges and finding solutions to them. This means that studying this course will have a direct positive impact on both your current professional practice and your career aspirations.
WHY IS THIS A GOOD OPTION FOR MY DEVELOPMENT?
The course is short, sharp and focused. You won’t need to be away from work for long periods of Thetime.course is flexible and manageable alongside work and family life. It is a complete qualification in its own right but it can also lead on to further valuable study such as a Higher Education Certificate / Diploma, or a full undergraduate degree. You will have full student status of the University of Chester and also gain a university-level Thequalification.courseis open to students from a wide range of backgrounds and different professions and business sectors, so you can develop your professional network as you study.
The course does not require you to be away from work for any significant period of time. You will choose to study three work-focused modules from a menu of four. Each module has been designed to address the specific development and business needs that employers told us were their key concerns in today’s workplace:

DURATION: The total fee for the course is £2,310. This can be funded by your employer, or you can use the Higher Education Short Course Loan. You may also be able to apply for a Study Support Bursary. More details are available on the website at: chester.ac.uk/gateway
ENTRY
The Gateway Certificate in Professional Education can be completed within six to eight months, with flexibility to take longer if needed. It can be studied at our Queen’s Park site in Chester.
DELIVERY:
COST: There are no formal entry requirements for this course. Your previous experience at work will be taken into account. The course has been designed to address your professional development needs if you have not had the opportunity to study at university in the past, or if you wish to reengage with university-level study at this point in your career. Each module requires your attendance for just one day in the classroom as well as half a day of online supported learning with materials available through the University of Chester’s online learning platform ‘Moodle’. There are no formal examinations as assessment is embedded into workplace practice.
