The Gateway Certificate in Professional Education is a new university-level (Level 4) qualification, developed in collaboration between employers, the Chambers of Commerce, the Federation of Small Businesses, and the University of Chester.
This unique new short course has been created to allow your employees to develop their professional skills and to study while they work, while bringing immediate positive change to your business.
WHAT IS THE GATEWAY
WHY IS THIS DIFFERENT?
By helping to devise and direct the learning and assessment, you and your business will quickly see benefits: HOW DOES MY BUSINESS BENEFIT?
The course does not require students to be away from work for any significant period of time.
Students will work together with you and their Academic Coach to address issues or projects in the workplace that they can use as the focus of their learning.
The course will allow students to focus directly on addressing this issue while simultaneously helping them to develop their professional aspirations. This means that the Gateway Certificate in Professional Education is valuable to both the student and you, their employer.
Having student-employees can have an immediate positive effect on your business in terms of employee performance and productivity as well as addressing key workplace issues.
The course focuses on developing the key skills required for today’s workplace so the skills that students are learning are brought directly into your business.
Students choose to study three work-focused modules from a menu of four. Each mod ule has been designed to address the specific development and business needs that employers told us were their key concerns in today’s workplace: WHAT DO THEY LEARN? Confidence with Technology and Technological Innovation Effective Communication for the 21st Century Building Agility, Resilience and Wellness Leadership, Emotional Intelligence and Change Because their learning and assessment is devised in collaboration with you, their employer, you can ensure that assessed work is something that brings value to your business, such as a detailed report, research project or presentation.
Each module requires students’ attendance for just one day in the classroom as well as half a day of online supported learning with materials available through the University of Chester’s online learning platform ‘Moodle’. There are no formal examinations as assessment is embedded into workplace practice. Evans (Course Leader):
