Acting BA (Hons)

“Over the period of my course, I have been given constant exposure to exciting performance opportunities in and outside of my campus - not only have these independent projects introduced me to a variety of different performance genres, but they have also introduced me to new contacts who also plan on entering similar fields to me after my course”.

Acting

Whilst studying Acting at the University of Chester you will have the opportunity to engage with our broad suite of performance-related modules which will enable you to develop the skills, knowledge and experience required to become a versatile, intelligent performer and sustain a successful career in Acting.

Led by a team of specialist and highly experienced lecturers, a wide range of professional practitioners and visiting industry professionals, the BA (Hons) Acting degree focuses on practice, theory and industry which allows you to explore performance critically and practically whilst gaining a deeper understanding of diverse performance, creative and research practices.

As an acting student you will engage with actor training modules where they will apply performance skills to a theatrical context with a focus on key practitioners within the field of actor training from a twentieth and twenty-first. They explore the role of the performer in the context of the performance space, use of text in the creative process and the understanding and development of vocal and movement performance skills.

Screen performance modules introduce you to the practical approaches, directing styles and acting techniques required for a screen actor. We also use a range of improvisation and scripted exercises which will enhance both fundamental techniques required when working in the film and television discipline.

“I think the acting degree has gave me confidence I never thought I would gain. Throughout the years I have been knocked back but being on this course has made me come out of my shell. I have experienced new skills and learnt things what I never thought I would learn. The environment makes me feel comfortable and at home. The teachers who have taught me, have made me feel happy and genuinely glad to have gone to this university. Overall Kingsway is my home and this is from being at the campus, being embraced by the staff and getting the confidence I’ve always wanted. I’ll be sad to leave but will always look back and smile.”

Like many universities across the UK, we are carefully planning for the next year to ensure the health and safety of our students and to ensure that however the situation may develop or change, the academic year will be completed for all students. This may mean we use some alternative modes of delivery to those described in this leaflet, but we’ll still be delivering a high quality learning experience. Further details will follow on our website once plans have been confirmed.
