Student Support
The Faculty of Education and Children’s Services strives to deliver a premium student experience that is personalised and purposeful. We also provide opportunities to equip you with the skills you need to succeed in your chosen profession, and to adapt to changing work environments - locally, nationally and internationally. Every student has the support of their Personal Academic Tutor, and the Faculty is dedicated to guiding students to success through their strong academic and pastoral support. Tutors are research active, and the Faculty’s work is linked to the University’s Centre for Research into Education, Creativity and the Arts through Practice (RECAP), which is a unique hub, specialising in practicebased research and focusing on creativity, learning and the arts in professional, educational contexts.
Learning Sites
Courses are available at two of our Chester sites; Wheeler and Exton Park (Parkgate Road), and at University Centre Shrewsbury. As a student, you will have access to specialist library collections, social areas, a catering outlet, subject specific teaching facilities, and IT laboratories.
Employment
Employability is central to our courses, with each one offering placements in educational environments where you will directly develop the practical skills you need for a career in education. Our programme teams work closely with employers to design course content that meets the needs of employers and provides pathways to employment, and progression to further academic study. OUR COURSES

Childhood Studies with Applied Psychology
BA Single Honours
This multidisciplinary course aims not only to develop your knowledge and understanding, but also to ensure that you develop the skills, attitudes and confidence to support, educate, nurture, and advocate for children, young people and families in your work.
Childhood Studies considers how children from birth to 18 years of age are viewed, and the factors that influence how they develop, learn and grow. Through studying Applied Psychology you gain an in-depth understanding of the applications of psychology within education, as well as the influence of diversity upon development, learning and behaviour.

Experience Placements and Projects
This course is unique in that it primarily focuses on Childhood Studies with interlinked modules in Applied Psychology. Theory and practice are actively applied and brought together through tailored placement opportunities and community projects that will widen your experience and skill set, and support career choice and progression. External and internal professionals will contribute to your course, widening your understanding of the influence different professionals can have on children and families, and research projects will allow you to follow your own lines of interest and enquiry.

At the heart of this course is a vision of transforming you into a teacher, ready to enter the profession with confidence as a skilled professional and equipped to make a significant contribution to the education of children now and in the future. Our course offers you Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and extensive experience in schools with at least 24 weeks in at least four schools or settings.

BA Single Honours
Based on current practice and research in the Department, this course will provide you with in-depth knowledge and understanding of education, drawing on the disciplines of sociology, philosophy, psychology, political science, and history, to enable you to develop knowledge and skills in the academic study of education.
If you are particularly interested in inclusion, diversity and special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), the course offers a pathway that specifically focuses on this, enabling you to develop an understanding of a growing area of interest in the field of education. The use of outside speakers on the course, who are experts in the field and practitioners in a variety of educational disciplines, helps to demonstrate education studies in a real-world context.

for comprehensive collaboration and partnership. Our students have several additional opportunities, such as achieving a Level 3 qualification in Paediatric First Aid, a requirement for staff in all Early Years settings, and the Graduate Practitioner Competencies, which will give your CV an edge, whatever career path you choose.
