Warrington - Big Move

University Centre Warrington

BUILDING A GREATER FUTURE

From early 2022 the University of Chester will be increasing the amount of Higher Education in Warrington substantially, with a more visible and accessible town centre presence.

Location, Location, Location Following a review last year with staff and students, the University identified the need to reconsider the current location on Crab Lane, Fearnhead, in favour of a site which is more fit for purpose for current and future demand. The University is currently refurbishing space in Time Square, which will be the ‘shop front’ for the University’s presence in Warrington. The site will host an information point for members of the public to engage and understand the learning opportunities available. It will also include bookable learning spaces for students with laptops and digital resources, breakout spaces for seminars and a small lecture space for talks and events. This town centre location will also showcase the opportunities available for learners and businesses and will include offers from Further Education partners and key business support programmes, such as the Accelerate skills programme, working with Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership. A second building near Time Square will house the majority of the teaching provision, namely Education, Policing and Health and Social Care, and will be named ‘Remond House’, after a prominent 19th-century abolitionist, doctor and women’s rights campaigner, who gave an influential series of lectures in Warrington.

“The University’s desire to grow its Warrington presence in the heart of the town is aligned to its Citizen Student strategy to provide a ‘premium, personalised and purposeful’ experience to its learners. The town centre location helps to realise the ambition to broaden the reach and accessibility of the University in Warrington whilst supporting Warrington Borough Council to focus on areas of growth, providing strategic support for the post-COVID economic and cultural recovery.” Professor Eunice Simmons, Vice-Chancellor
