BIOGRAPHIES Kyung Kim is an associate professor of piano and chair of the keyboard division at the University of Minnesota School of Music (Twin Cities). She is also director of the Minnesota International Piano Camp. Kim has performed widely to critical acclaim in concerto, recital, and chamber music performances throughout Asia, North America, and Europe. Born into a musical family, Dr. Kim is a graduate of Seoul National University and holds a doctor of musical arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Kim served as a piano faculty member at Brandon University (MB, Canada), Lawrence University (WI), Beloit College (WI), and Ripon College (WI).

Ho-Yin Kwok is a James Sample Fellow and DMA student studying with Mark Russell Smith. He is the winner of 2017-2018 Vincent C. LaGuardia, Jr. Conducting Competition and is artistic director and conductor of the Mississippi Valley Orchestra, Assistant Conductor of Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra (DSSO), and Interim Director of DSSO Youth Symphony. Kwok previously served as assistant conductor of Collegium Musicum Hong Kong and cover conductor of the Minnesota Orchestra. Other music festival engagements include the Eastern Music Festival and the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music. He holds a master’s degree in orchestral conducting from the University of Iowa.

Hisham Bravo Groover is an incoming student in the DMA orchestral conducting program, studying with Mark Russell Smith. Groover is also beginning his first season as music director/conductor for the Buffalo Community Orchestra in Buffalo, MN. Hisham previously lived in Denver, CO, where he worked with the Arapahoe Philharmonic, Denver Philharmonic Orchestra, Arapahoe Community College String Orchestra, and the Lamont Symphony Orchestra. He holds an artist diploma in conducting from the Lamont School of Music and a master’s degree from The University of Iowa.

Ernesto Estigarribia is a DMA graduate and was a James Sample Fellow who studied with Mark Russell Smith. He serves as music director and conductor of the Buffalo Community Orchestra, artistic director of the Southeastern Minnesota Youth Orchestras, and conductor of Sinfonia East of the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies. At the University of Minnesota, he is co-director of Campus Orchestras and founded the Northstar Philharmonia. Originally from Asunción, Paraguay, Estigarribia has performed extensively in North and South America, the Caribbean, and Europe both as a violist and conductor.
