What can I do with a mechanical, materials or manufacturing degree? Now is a good time to be an engineering student, according to the Royal Academy of Engineering (2013). An ageing UK engineering workforce means that around 115,000 new engineers will be needed each year until 2020 just to replace those that have retired. This, as well as an improving economy, means that as an engineering student from The University of Nottingham you are well placed to meet this demand. Mechanical, materials and manufacturing graduates especially have opportunities to work across a broad range of industry sectors such as aeronautical, automotive, construction, manufacturing and the energy industry. The Careers in Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering Fair offers you the opportunity to meet some of the organisations contributing to these vibrant sectors. Employers attending the fair may have opportunities for final years interested in graduate positions as well as year-long and summer placements for first, second and penultimate year students, in a range of interesting roles across their businesses.

Even if you are unsure which sector is right for you, you can still learn a lot from the organisations visiting the fair about what they look for in students and graduates which will help you in any future applications across all industry sectors. You may even find out about opportunities you never knew existed. Our team are here to help you understand and make the most of the graduate jobs market, not just today but throughout your time at University and once you graduate. Make sure you leave with a copy of our events guide so that you can see what’s coming up this term. And finally, keep in touch. You can book an appointment to see us at www.nottingham.ac.uk/careers/ appointments You can also ask our experts a question on Facebook or Twitter. If you have a burning question, it’s a great way to get a quick answer. We hope you enjoy the day! Your Careers and Employability Service
