Welcome to our Faculty of Arts Futures Festival We’re delighted that you’ve decided to join us for this year’s Faculty of Arts Futures Festival. As an arts student, your time at The University of Nottingham will equip you with a very broad range of academic skills that can take you into various professional fields. That’s all well and good, but so much choice can feel overwhelming, particularly for those of you in your first week at university. While you may feel that it’s too early even to contemplate what you might want to do after you graduate, we’d ask you to think again. What employers are increasingly telling us is that academic achievement alone is not enough and what you decide to do outside of your studies can help you develop the skills that will give you an advantage when you enter the graduate jobs market. That’s why it’s never too early to start thinking about your future, even if you’re not clear on where it will take you. For now, you might be interested in helping a child with their literacy skills by volunteering in a local school or looking to do some work experience alongside your studies. You might be thinking about a future in heritage or law and want to ask someone how they went about securing a job doing something they love.

Today is about just that – giving you the chance to find out about your options and to introduce you to the services our team offer and how to access them when the time is right for you. What’s unique about the Futures Festival is that unlike our recruitment fairs where there are a lot of employers looking to hire, we hope to give you a flavour of the range of things you can do alongside your studies to become more involved with university life – and more employable at the end of it. This is just the start. We run hundreds of events throughout the autumn term, including the Spotlight on… series of events which will give you a unique insight into different sectors such as publishing or retail, and our skills workshops running throughout the year will help you to hone and articulate your many talents. If you’re looking for something specific, or would like to tell us what you think of the day, look out for our student ambassadors in pink who will be very happy to help you. Lastly, don’t forget that we’re not just here for one day, but for the rest of your time at Nottingham – make the most of us!
