Have a stimulating, challenging and academically rewarding experience! Well-known and recognized professors, well-equipped classrooms and dormitories at the University of Pécs enable you to get the best out of your period of study abroad. Whether you are learning a new language or doing scientific research, the University puts the tools you need at your disposal. Our university represents classical values while successfully adapting to the present and using diverse methods of teaching. Level of degrees and recognition In September 2006, a modern higher educational training system initiated by the European Union was introduced in Hungary too, known as the Bologna process, which offers students an opportunity to pursue their studies in a dynamically developing, flexible European higher educational system. The traditional college and university level training programs were replaced by a three-tier system consisting of a basic training program (BA, BSc), a master level program (MA, MSc), and doctoral level (PhD, DLA) program. The first cycle programs last 6-8 semesters (3-4 years, 180-240 credit points) and lead to a Bachelor’s degree. The second cycle programs lead to a Master’s degree and last 2-4 semesters (1-2 years, 60-120 credit points). One-tier, undivided, long-term Master’s degree programs (5 to 6 years) are offered in some fields of study, e.g. in human medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, architecture, law and in a few programs of art education. All Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees grant access to the labor market. A four-year doctoral program is a postgraduate alternative that may follow any Master’s or equivalent qualification. The university offers shorter programs as well, such as preparatory prog-
rams, summer universities and partial trainings. In addition, it attaches great importance to training in the colleges for advanced studies. Nearly every faculty offers training in the framework of this organization that encourages students to pursue their own research.
Due to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), which was introduced in September 2003, credits and degrees earned in Hungary are transferable to other European institutions and vice versa. In addition to the diploma, students are also provided with a special supplement that is recognized all over the European Union.
In order to ensure high international standards, strict quality control measures are applied. The Hungarian Accreditation Committee (HAC) conducts continuous institutional and program accreditation procedure and monitors the quality of educational activity for compliance the European Standards and Guidelines. Hungarian higher education institutions and courses are accredited by HAC.

1367
650
2017
years of tradition
Between 1348 and 1367, there was a strongly marked wave of university foundations which concerned several enlightened Central European countries: Prague, Cracow, Vienna and Pécs took the leading role in establishing a secular higher education system. The papal decree about the foundation of the University of Pécs is dated 1 September 1367.
During the course of the following two years, many programs will be available to the audience such as significant international congresses, scientific meetings, art festivals and sport events. The main event will be held on 1 September 2017 designated as the Day of Jubilee and also the Day of Pécs.
The main aim of the jubilee programs is to improve the national and international image of the University of Pécs, as well as to raise the identity awareness of the current and former students, lecturers and staff members of the University. The jubilee programs started on 20 November 2015 with the Countdown Day (650 days before the 650th jubilee). A special installation called Minimal was presented to the University which began the countdown to 1 September, 2017.
In the framework of the Jubilee celebrations the Hungarology World Congress, the Magna Charta Observatory International Rectors’ Conference and Rectors’ Conference of European Catholic Universities will be organized in Pécs. It has also been decided that the so called “International Evening” will be expanded to an “International Month” in 2017, during which a wide palette of different cultures, culinary and artistic traditions will be presented.

Study in Hungary Budapest
PÉCS
Hungary is a beautiful landlocked EU country situated in the Carpathian Basin, in the middle of the continent. Despite being rather small, its beneficial Central European position makes the country an appealing destination to live, work or study. Hungary has much to offer for visitors, from the architectural and cultural delights of historic cities, to vineyard–covered hills, freshwater lakes and therapeutic mineral springs. This small country is one of the oldest in Europe where 2000-year-old Roman ruins and 400-year-old Turkish monuments can be found side by side.

The University of Pécs is located in the uniquely beautiful and lively city of Pécs – a proper, multi-campus university town – which was designated to be European Capital of Culture in 2010. The large international student population has become an essential part not only of the university but also of the city’s everyday life.
Through the traditions of the first Hungarian university, Pécs is a center of science and education and it is a frequent host of domestic and international conferences and symposia. In terms of entertainment and events, the city offers a huge number of activities, excursions and festivals for everyone, regardless of taste or budget.
How to get to Pécs? Pécs, the fifth largest city in Hungary with a population of about 150,000, is a real Mediterranean beauty. It is situated in South Transdanubia, close to the Croatian border. The easiest way to reach Hungary from distant countries is by plane. There are flights to Budapest, the capital of Hungary, from
all major air-hubs in Europe. To reach Pécs from the capital one can take an intercity train or use a minibus shuttle, which is a direct transportation service from the airport to any address in Pécs.
Getting around One of the great things about being a student in Pécs is that you can easily explore the city on foot or by bike. Pécs has convenient bus transportation and a 24-hour taxi service. Students are entitled to get a student discount (50%) from the original price of the monthly bus pass (≈EUR 22) with their Hungarian Student ID cards.
Weather Pécs has a temperate climate with a snowy, cold winter and a sunny, hot summer, ranging from minimum -5°C in winter to maximum +30°C in summer. It also has beautiful autumn and spring seasons. In South Transdanubia, spring arrives early and we can enjoy the benefits of late summer days - Indian summer - which can last even nutil November.
