Interview with Kaegan of Be You

Who Is Kaegan? I am an artist of many forms and a free-spirit. I am a light that shines bright and aim to share that light with everyone I encounter in my journey. Born in 1993 and raised in Jo'burg (although I did live in Durban 2001-2002), I moved around a lot. This was because my parents got divorced when I was quite young, both didn’t earn much money and both had lifestyle problems (both are Bi-polar and my mom was an alcoholic).

Can you please explain your be you movement in detail? The Be You movement aims to inspire, educate and assist people and animals to truely be comfortable with being who they are and expressing themselves and being free. In today’s society, we are constantly told what we should and shouldn't be and it makes life a bit confusing and difficult to express our true selves.

What have you done with your life so far? After high school I didn’t know what I wanted to be or study, randomly ended up volunteering at Lory Park Zoo and getting a job there. I discovered I had a passion for birds, I soon quit and started working at Reptilian’s pet shop where I started a small businesses selling bird food that I cooked and cage accessories which I designed. I also found out about a 1year course on Bird Behavior through Ethology Academy, just before I finished my course, I managed to get a job at the Monte casino Bird Gardens as a Bird Trainer and Show Presenter from 2013-2015 and also do a short course on Voice and Acting through, Voice2Act. Studios, there I decided to start paying for my own dance classes at Dance Web, I found these classes really helped me with learning choreography and meet people in the dance industry I then got a whole lot of part-time jobs to sustain myself, promoter, shooter girl, cashier, freelance dance gigs and ended up joining a dance crew called Creed in the beginning 2016. Landed a gig as a presenter for a YouTube channel called Ente (entertainment and lifestyle). After while it was difficult to keep pushing the business and keep up the busy lifestyle and decided to cut down on a few things and look for something more stable. I worked as a Performing Artist at Zinto Marketing and dances with Creed Crew until end of 2016. Beginning of 2017 I got a job at Buzz (singing, dance and drama), teaching kids aged 3-13years old at different schools around johannesburg, I aslo currently host Comedy Nights at Kyalami Country Pub and kitchen. When you doing much you have much to say, to see the whole interview here is a direct link to her interview on our blog:https://upcomingmag2019.wordpress.com/2019/04/04/interview-with-keagan/

Mothebudi Serubarube: growing up I never saw myself as a performer. I loved writing and creating short stories. I always saw myself doing office work as a grown up. BOOTY BOUNCERS

Born in 1997 at Mankweng Hospital. Grew up in a community that had no electricity, it wasn't easy to keep up with the latest trends because it was almost impossible to watch TV. I had to go visit my family at sebayeng just so I could watch TV. That's funny because today I see myself on TV(DJ isho's skeem saka music video)Chanel 320. Went to Toronto Primary School and Mountain View High school, finished my matric in 2015. I grew up having fewer friends, I was never popular. And 2016 I had my first child, I was 19. I thought it was over for me.2017 I completed my N6 in business management at Senwabarwana campus. Then I came back home. I went to perform on weekends and I realized, this is what puts a smile on my face. I never had a lot of confidence until I started twerking. I have my mom as my number one fan and my siblings have shown me support from the beginning. I plan to further my studies and Would really love to perform around south Africa, maybe we could meet the queen of twerk Faith Nketsi.

Ofenste Ofentse is a girl from a small township called Turfloop, raised by a single parent with three siblings. Finished my high school a year ago and currently studying business management and do my dancing over the weekends. I enjoy going out with friends and hanging around my family. This was never an easy road but I had to fight for what I love...at first my parent was against me dancing(twerking) So I had to find a way to hide it from them coz I knew that what they don't know won't hurt them but that didn't last long because we started getting more gigs so I had to spend more nights out...that's when they got suspicious so I had to tell them the truth and I ended up winning because they saw how I loved dancing. Till today I'm hustling and I got my number one fans which is my family for the support they've given me. My goals as to continue with my studies and graduate and I want our dancing to reach high place by getting sponsors and more gigs ,we wanna be noticed for the talent we have . And it would be great to open a studio for teaching upcoming generation how to twerk.

DANNY My friend by the name Susan told me about the Mr. and miss money moves pageant then I decided to enter as a participant . On the day of the pageant I sensed a bit of hostility from some of the other participants and audiences right from the start but I just told myself that maybe it's just my paranoia so I shouldn't allow it to take my focus away. As soon as I walked on the runway it became clear to me that people in the audience had reservations about me being one of the participants as I could hear discriminative Comments such as " Asifuni zitabane lapha "(We don't want gays here ) . Being a proud gay I am well aware that it won't be the last time I am going to face such but it is my firm belief that whatever God made is not a mistake and I will never apologize for being what God created me to be like . As the results were being announced I could hear a woman In the audience passing negative remarks about the lgbt community of which I decided not to get involved because I was with my friend Susan and didn't know where it would lead to . When I was told that the judges made a unanimous decision that I was to be crowned as the winner of Mr. money moves I decided not to take the crown because of all the shenanigans that I was exposed to during the duration of the whole pageant . Honestly I felt like me receiving the crown was more like endorsing the fact that people like me in the lgbt community can be treated in such a humiliating way and the whole world can just turn a blind eye as if it's a horrible crime to be gay . On my way out of the venue me and Susan received a death threat from one of the people who were in the audiences but we just decided to make our way out as I just wanted to quickly get out of the venue and go home . The following day the born frees management called me and told me that would i be interested to take part in the rematch of the Mr. and miss money moves Which they informed me would take place at Croco blue ,Ghandi square on the 30th of March . Honestly at first ,I couldn't imagine myself going through all of that again but after a long conversation with myself I concluded that if I don't stand up for others who have and have faced the same situation as mine then that will be a betrayal to them . I am Dannie-dee Barkhuizen I'm 21, originally from Mpumalanga but currently in Johannesburg pursuing a career as an artist and musician also a drama graduate in Professional Acting for Camera majored in live performance, voice and TV presenting just to name a few running for face of Africa please sms face 630 to 36438... , BIOGRAPHY

Man T De Conscious Rapper

first started as a poet before venturing into music, it was his love and passion for performing and changing people’s lives that led him into the arts of performing. He started making music in 2008, in his hometown Katlehong, the East of Johannesburg. To him doing music is not only about the fame and fortune that it brings, but it is about sending an important message to young people which in turn can change their lives and their way of thinking. He grew up in a township were young people face many hardships such as unemployment, lack of support for those interested in arts and drug abuse to name a few, with his music he hopes to empower the youth to stand up and take charge of their lives, to rise against all odds and become victorious in their dreams. In 2005 he joined a church choir and that’s when he realised his love for music and started learning more about it. Joining the choir helped him nurture and foster his talent into what it is today. It was during this period that he started taking music seriously, thereby giving himself the name Man T De Conscious Rapper, the “T” stands for his name and the “Conscious rapper” means that he wants to make people aware and more cognizant about the issues that really matter. His music is combined Rap, Rhythm and poetry with a touch of Jazz Soul and Gospel music, which poses as no difficulty for people to connect and listen to his sound, thereby allowing him flexibility to perform anywhere and for everyone. He released his first singe called “DUMELANG” in 2017, which was greatly received by his followers and soon became an anthem on everyone’s lips. Man T De Conscious Rapper, recently formed a hip hop movement called Batho Pele, which aims to instigate and encourage people to follow their dreams and never settle for anything other than their dream. He is a role model to many as many truly aspire to be like him, brave and driven to make a difference. He has performed in various places nationally and the crowds still cannot close their mouths about his performances, whoever this young man also shared the stage with the well-known performing artists (SJAVA;ISRAEL;BUCIEetc) at an event which was held at Katlehong Art Centre named MAZIBUYE HERITAGE EXPO 201 Don’t forget to share with all your whatsapp contacts

The Masterminder My name is Sandile Zwane, my stage name is "The Masterminder". I am from Gauteng "Soweto", I am 17 years old . I'm an upcoming rapper that is known for motivational and technical rapping. The first time i really got interested in rap was when I heard the song "mockingbird by Eminem" , I was 13 years old at the time. I actually started rapping when I was 14 years old , the ability to bend words and construct rhythmic sentences while telling a story really inspired me. Growing up i have always been adventurous and always had a competitive mindset , I wanted to be the best in every activity i took part in , if not the best than at least be good at it. That's how the name "The Masterminder " came to be. Eminem is the artist that inspired me to start rapping but what really pushed me to be a rapper is seeing how rap was changing throughout the years. So far i have about 10 tracks (more or less), a few music videos and I regularly do freestyle videos. I have performed at a local car wash(open mic) and I also performed at Sunninghill prison for an (HIV /AIDS) event that took place last year. I have never been to a recording studio, I use my smart phone for recording, capturing and editing my videos. That's all I can tell you about myself at the moment. Thank you for your timeďż˝. Model: Ntokozo I am Ntokozo Brain Maseko born on the 23rd of September 1994. Brought up in the town of Bethlehem (Free State), first conceived a child in the family. I matriculated at Ntsu Secondary school. Worked at family businesses which are taxis and tavern. It was where I thought and realised I can work around people no matter the circumstances. Then acknowledged I needed to further my studies since I have the energy for such, from that point I went to ponder for National Certificate in qualifying for Mining engineering. For some reasons I had to quit mining engineering for civil engineering which I'm still striving for at Central Johannesburg college. I started acting when I arrived in Johannesburg because we are less fortunate at Free State when it comes to this stream of work. I started acting with a low budget movie which was held at Soweto. I did 3 adverts namely for Romans pizza, NBC entertainment & Outsurance ad. Productions I've been with Scandal, Generations ( featured extra), Isibaya Ikhaya ( continuity), Isidingo & Rhythm City ( continuity) Modelled for a local brand it didn't succeed for professional measures I won't mention it. I did Face modelling for a book in Pretoria that was about Mandela it is not published as yet. I'm going to be pursuing as a gay character in a movie but it is still under negotiations. My main focus this year is to get a big role that is going to boost my profile. My target is to get to The Queen, The River, Generations, Rhythm City, Scandal & Skeem same. I am managed by Kingclip artist management and I'm happy with it. I currently stay at Doornfontein Johannesburg.
