Q : What can you tell us about yourself, your craft and your visions... Including what inspired the name, Marcavs?
A : I’m Tumelo Letebele from Brandfort, a small town in Free State province born at Aartdoring Farm near Brandfort. At the aged of 5 I relocated to Brandfort in Nomzamo park location and started school at Monamodi Primary School. At Grade 7, I started music (kwaito genre) with my classmates. Those days we were inspired by likes of young Mzambiya, Chiskop and Tkzee. It was the only perfection I do; music. In 2002 I went to Akademia High School to start my Grade 8 and met various local artists and we started a group named Maskopas, but Maskopas wasn't the future because when we were growing up we had different life visions. Then I went to play soccer at which I was also good in midfield position. I did my matric in 2006, in 2007 Pule Masimola and I started music again. Thats where I got my name Marcavs from my late brother- may his soul rest in peace… We Started Ak4fellas Kwaito group (3 members) and kept Free State buzzing by performing a lot until we were left as only the 2 of us. My vision is to be the best in Free State Province, to inspire and encourage other artists to believe that every dream is achieve-able. Also in whatever way I can, to help others reach their goals.
Q : You've performed at events such as Mahungra at Macufe Festival even as a solo artist. With all the limitations of the opportunities for upcoming artists to get a stage, which supports your statement that you've “kept Free State buzzing”… Can you share your experience on such stage performances?
A : The experience we had from such big stages is huge and it changed my mindset as an upcoming artist. That boosted my career… I began to want to achieve bigger things in life. I got the experience 'mostly' on how to interact with the big audiences and how to entertain different human races at once. All I can say now is that I have gained a lot of stage confidence and it’s the thing I share with other upcoming artist..
Q : You received a certificate of appreciation from the Municipality Mayor… can you tell us more about that?
A : Yeah...it was one of the best highlight of my career to receive an honor from the Mayor of Masilonyana Municipality showing love, respect, support and appreciation after scoping the 2nd music award nomination at MKHMA award (Mzansi Kwaito House & Music Awards) firstly same year was the SAUMA Award for Best Dance Category then South African Upcoming Music Awards which we won. That year I had represented Free State very well. 2 awards came to Free State Province by 1 duo, which was “us”.
Q : You've always between solo and a group or duo... Why's that and can you distinguish the two?
A : Let me start by this, I started in a group, but things never turned out the way I had hoped for, because of some who enters the music journey for fame and others not delivering- in fact variety of visions. Duo is good, sometimes it is not good- let me break it; two different parties going into one direction will face the stage of disagreements and end up taking separate ways. While I was in duet 'duo' everything was running smoothly until the stage where career needs our attention 24/7-365... that’s where we noticed our differences and love for the music... Too many things happened until I decided to go solo. Now I’m solo under GUESSWHAT PRODUCTIONS owned by HLOKOMELANG 'HLOUKZ' KHAMA- Salute to him, the brother who made me the terminator I am today. Since I’m solo, everything runs at my own time, I don’t blame anyone for missing or failing this- If i miss today .. Tomorrow i will conquer. My advice to others is to keep solo to avoid unnecessary drama, so you can own everything to yourself.
Q : So you've won a couple of awards... Some of which you've already spoken about. Do you mind sharing all of them for inspiration sake to other upcoming artists?
A : Ohk. Well for me I think I still want more awards to upgrade my music profile. Firstly there are certificates which I won as the best performer, all 3 of them… 2nd the Love Life award for Best Performance. 3rd the SAUMA (South Africa Upcoming Music Awards) for best dance category in Gauteng Province, Soweto theatre in 2018, 4th one and the bigger one was from the MKHMA (Mzansi Kwaito House Music Awards) and I won for Best New Kwaito Artist at Carnival City in Gauteng Province. 5th achievement was last year when I was nominated on (Golden Art & Media Awards) GAMA AWARDS for Best Upcoming Artist, and this year I’ve been nominated for Best Amapiano Artist at BOLTZ AWARDS 2021.. I want SAMA OR METRO Award one day, and as dreams do come true when you put God first… 'Amen' because I believe the Amapiano EP I’m busy with will knock at big doors for me..
