Model Life: “The Stoop Sessions”

Her name is Saliyah Itoka. She was born and raised in Queens, NY but is currently living in Albany, NY. Writteb by: Jalysa (Lady) Remedy

She’s been singing since she was really little. But she didn’t start taking her music career seriously until January 2015 when she also started modeling. She’s been writing since she was 11 years old. Her creative passions come from working with other artists, sharing in their positive energy and learning from them. She has collaborated with other singers and rappers on her project and is very excited to hear the results. Her current project is in the works and the name that she’s chosen for it is “The Stoop Sessions: Part I”. She’s inspired by singers from the 90’s such as Aaliyah, Chris Brown, Beyoncé, Toni Braxton, Anita Baker, Tank, Rihanna, Brandy, Whitney Houston, Drake, and The Weeknd. In full light she wanted to create a project that represented her on all levels. One of her favorite songs on her new project is called “Loving You”. It has a Tevin Campbell sample and has that feel good vibe that she loves about R&B. She’s done 8 shows since she started her music career. But her most memorable experience as an Artist was her very first showcase because it was the first time she had ever performed her original music. She was nervous but it felt good knowing that people really liked what they heard. As a model she performed at the February 2015 Atlantic City Fashion Week. It gave her that boost of confidence that she needed to confirm that she was runway model material. Right now, her debut project is in the works. She is working really hard to complete it and make it perfect. In her modeling career, she just finished a show during NYFW and she’s just grinding and pushing for the next show and next casting. As far as the future she just wants to continue to pursue what she loves to do and prove her doubters wrong.

FireWater: “Swisher full of Gunsmoke” He was born and raised in Decatur, IL. That’s right smack in the middle of the Midwest. Firewater considers himself to be both an Emcee and a Lyricist for the simple fact that all his hooks will change the mood depending on how he delivers his message. It is all about the delivery which is unique and emotional, and plus his audience might even learn a thing or two if they listen closely. The name of his current album is called: Swisher full of Gunsmoke. He was inspired to create it of course to tell his story in his own way but It also describes the different chapters in his life. He writes all his own music and he has collaborated with several artists to complete his project starting with: Eddie Cooper, Chez C, S.A.N. (stop @ nothing), Sunset Black, E.T. (like the movie), D. CARR, PREACH, JONES, ACHILLE, FAT MALZ, D TAY, QBEETZHARD, KL Music, Ju Ball, T Killah, Jones,ACHILLE Foster, Almarie Smith, Dasia Davis, Anthony Davis, just to name a few.

The best advice he ever received was: (Never let your left hand know what your right hand doing) Firewater got into writing songs and making music because he got tired of hearing “garbage” plus he was always into writing poems & stories. So when he heard how good something that he wrote sounded over a beat he became addicted to the creation process. His most memorable performance was and will always be his first time on stage because he felt like he had more to prove than everyone else because it was his hometown where everyone knew him and on top of that the MC introduced him as being from Chicago. Now that he’s finished with his album the next step for him is to get started with the promotions, he also has gotten his hands into management thanks to a fellow Artist out of Decatur, IL named Rick Porter. As far as the future of music for him he’ll continue to make good music & get behind any scene that he can while he’s trying to get his records out to his audience. As of now he’s in the final stages of completing several mix-tape projects, also he’s currently in negotiations concerning the launching of a management/video&audio production company, trying to find the best deal possible as far as distribution goes. He is basically just trying to do business and continue to make quality music. Written by Jalysa (Lady) Remedy

Gio’s Way:

The Hard Hustle & Never Ending Ambition Giovanni Jackson: My Name is Javon “Giovanni” Jackson. I started off on the music scene, but I’ve always had an eye for clothing and shoes. I’m originally from South Jersey, but I’d visit South Philadelphia most weekends. Later on in life I decided to move to South Philadelphia to live and I never looked backed. I’ve built a strong foundation here. The “city life” has always been for me. As I continue to build the hustle only gets stronger from here. Welcome to my world. Julian Edwards: Hustle, well that’s something you choose to do. Ambition isn’t something that’s taught, it’s just in you. Either you have it or you don’t. What do those two words mean to you? Giovanni Jackson: You’re absolutely right. Either you have it or you don’t honestly. Those two words aren’t just words to me anymore. They have become my lifestyle. I thrive off hustle & ambition, meaning never give up no matter the outcome each day. I never take no for a final answer. Everything I touch I push to the to the max! Julian Edwards: What made you want to having your own clothing line? Who or what motivated you to stick with it? Giovanni Jackson: As a child I was into fashion heavy. Always checking to see the latest trend that was out or what the best selling brand of clothing was at the time. The motivation was always there because I was always around very fashionable people. Julian Edwards: Fashion has evolved so much over the last 5 to 10 year’s. How are you able to stay current with your clothing as trends change so quickly? Giovanni Jackson: I just continue to follow my own instincts that’s all. I’m trying to set trends where people will follow my lead. Julian Edwards: What types of clothing do you design? Who do you look to target?

Giovanni Jackson: Street wear. I don’t have a specific target because people usually gravitate towards my hustle and people honestly love my brand of clothing. Julian Edwards: How long does it take for you to come up with an idea for the clothing you design? What typically goes into the thought process of what you’re creating? Giovanni Jackson: I have a vision for everything I do from the clothes on down to my shoe line. An idea can pop up at any moment. My brain is always wandering even when I’m sleep. The process is pretty simple because I have a few companies I deal with to produce the “hustle & ambition” clothing along with the “Giovanni” shoe. It’s pretty dope! Julian Edwards: Not only are you making clothes, but you have now decided to make perfume and cologne. What was your reasoning behind dabbling in that field of work? What do you expect the outcome to be? Giovanni Jackson: Yes. I love the smell of perfume and cologne. People want to smell good when they’re going out for the night, heading to work, etc. So, why not give people a product at a reasonable price and also smells good? It’s the best of both worlds. Julian Edwards: Ultimately what do you intend to accomplish with your brand as a whole? Giovanni Jackson: To take it further than just clothes, shoes, and fragrances. To be able to open up a chain of stores would be a major accomplishment Julian Edwards: How do you handle someone giving you constructive criticism? What do you take away from it and how do you turn it into a positive? Giovanni Jackson: I love it. Nothing’s wrong with it. Sometimes I need that because it only makes me work harder to perfect my craft. Julian Edwards: Tell me about your logo. What went into the creation of it and how long did it take for you to say “yeah that’s the one”? Giovanni Jackson: Once the logo was complete it spoke for itself. The energy from it said “hustle & ambition.” Julian Edwards: We all fail at some point in life. Of course its not intentional, but it does happen. Describe what failure means to you. How do you bounce back from it? Giovanni Jackson: Failure’s apart of the game. A huge learning process. I take failure head on and keep hustling. I shall never let failure overpower my thought process. Julian Edwards: What are some of your goals for the remainder of 2017 along with future goals? Giovanni Jackson: To expand the entire brand in major ways. I want my clothing, shoes, & fragrance to keep expanding. I want a chance to sit down and speak to the youth. Motivate them to keep hustling, never lose their ambition, and to keep chasing their dreams. Written by: Julian D. Edwards
