From Roscommon it flows north and east through the Mason Tract, preserved as a wilderness between Chase Bridge and Smith Bridge. Here the river’s depth ranges from one to four feet; deeper in a few places. A moderate current will take you steadily downstream.

Muskegon River The Muskegon flows south and west from Houghton Lake into the backwaters of Reedsburg Dam. It meanders through miles of unspoiled wilderness traveling through the Houghton Lake Wildlife Research Area, flowing over a bed of sand at approximately 3-4 miles per hour.
