Also, the system must be installed with room and water temperature controls in accordance with the current Building Regulations Parts L1 (Energy – Dwellings) and L2 (Energy – Non Dwellings) for England and Wales, or an equivalent national standard for Scotland or Republic of Ireland.

Hot water services installations where the water temperature does not continuously exceed 70oC, or momentarily exceed 95oC (no more than 100 hours a year), and maximum operating pressure of 10 bar.

Cold water services installations, including riser pipe work, where the maximum operating pressure does not exceed 10 bar. Boosted cold water systems should incorporate adequate surge suppression equipment where there is a risk of damage caused by hydraulic surges or water hammer.

All subject to the system and equipment being installed in accordance with manufacturer’s installation instructions and complying with the relevant local and national regulations. UPONOR MLC has a maximum temperature of 95°c and has a 50 year minimum operating durability at 10 Bar 70°c and a safety factor of 1.5.

Fittings Press Fittings – Metal press (plated brass with aluminium press sleeves) in sizes 12-50mm. Press Fittings – PPSU press (PPSU with stainless steel press sleeves) in sizes 16-50mm. Modular riser – Metal press fittings (plated brass) used in conjunction with precision engineered base fittings (plated brass) and unique locking pins. Modular design allows for compact connections, especially suitable for riser applications. For pipe sizes 63-110mm. The MLC fittings product range includes all common plumbing configurations (e.g. reducers, elbows, tees etc) as well as male and female threaded adaptors, compression adaptors and copper adaptors. For large diameter pipe work 40-63mm metal press fittings with stainless steel pressure sleeves will be used and for pipe sizes of 63mm to 110mm the modular fittings range will be used. Uponor RTM fittings are intended for the jointing of Uponor MLC in sizes 16mm - 32mm (where the size refers to the outside diameter of the pipe). Applications of the product are: - Heating - Domestic hot and cold water - Chilled water Uponor RTM fittings allow rapid jointing of Uponor MLC without the need for specialist tools. Benefits include: - Ease of use for staff/installers - Fittings seal on the bore - Built in features to confirm a successful joint - Unique tension-ring jointing concept ensures joints never work loose - Quick installation, saving time and money - Fittings cannot be disassembled or tampered with The RTM product range includes all common plumbing configurations (e.g. reducers, elbows, tees etc) as well as male and female threaded adaptors, copper adaptors and flexible tap connectors. Radiator Plumbing Systems ‘NV’ Manifold to be used for heating with attached fill and drain points consisting of 2-8 way manifold including mounting brackets, supplying radiator heating via ¾" FT Eurocone adaptors. Controls for radiator heating systems Controls consisting of the LS type manifold with actuator control from each room thermostat, in conjunction with either the UPONOR wired or radio systems both installed to current regulations. H&C Water Plumbing Systems UPONOR ¾" or 1" “L” type manifolds complete with isolating valves supplied in either a 2, 3 or 4 port options, to supply hot and cold water to appliances.

Uponor Smart Ends Uponor Smart end system enables the installation of fittings onto bespoked brackets with an easy, secure connection capability , allowing fixation with only one hand. Brackets can be used in dry walls or Timber partition walls providing a sturdy base for mounting the wall plate elbow. Flat brackets can be used for on-wall installations still giving the smart end fixation. Wall plate elbows can be mounted vertically onto brackets or at 45 angles to provide flexible installation around obstacles , I.e Waste pipes. The Smart End concept improves first fix installations with easy pressure test facilities and clear fixation locations for building work required. Wall thickness variations can be overcome with ½ inch threaded tap extensions. Uponor angle valves and threaded nipples make for final connections to appliances. Smart end products are available in Uponor MLC + Q&E pipe systems. Uponor Smart End – Hygiene system Uponor Smart end range has been developed with the introduction of the U Smart End, with the same installation advantages as the existing Smart End range. Uponor hygiene system allows two unique ways to design Domestic pipework system eliminating deadlegs. Serial Installation. The serial installation prevents the collection of water in the feed lines of appliances that are rarely in use, e.g. outdoor taps, washing machines and showers. In this system, the appliances are connected by means of Uponor U-end elbows that are routed directly to the next appliance, therefore excluding any stagnation of the water in the branches leading up to the appliance. By placing a high use item at the end of the serial installation (usually a toilet or basin) this allows for effective elimination of dead legs. The Uponor Smart end can then be terminated with a Uponor angle valve allowing direct connection to Taps with flexible ends whilst complying with Water bylaws with isolation. Loop Installation. The Uponor U-end elbows can also used to connect the taps in a loop installation, like the serial system the pipe runs directly to the next tap. However, the piping is routed back from the last appliance to the feeding pipe. The advantage of the loop installation is it does not matter which appliance is used, any flow will flush the other appliances. Uponor loop system also supplys the appliance from both feed pipes when operational ,allowing increase flow potential in the system, this may allow for selection of smaller pipe sizes in the installation. The Uponor Smart end can then be terminated with a Uponor angle valve allowing direct connection to Taps with flexible ends whilst complying with Water bylaws with isolation Trace Heating

Trace heating can be used in conjunction with MLC pipework. The internal aluminum pipe guarantees an even heat distribution throughout the pipe; the temperature limit is usually 60°c. The heater band is to be mounted as per the manufacturer’s instructions; UPONOR MLC is rated as plastic pipework. Pipe Expansion UPONOR MLC has a thermal expansion rate which is significantly lower than other plastic pipework systems. The thermal expansion of coefficient is (0.025 mm / (m x K)). Fixings Fitting and equipment connections as well as the connection of measuring and control devices are to be installed torsion-free. All pipes are to be installed in such a manner that the thermal length variation (temperature change) is not obstructed. No trays may be used if UPONOR MLC pipes are installed open on the ceiling with clips. The following table represents the maximum mounting distance “L” between the individual pipe clips for different pipe dimensions.

Type and distance between the pipe fastenings is dependant on the pressure, temperature and medium. Dimensioning of the pipe supports is to be determined from the total mass (pipe weight + medium weight + insulation weight) in accordance with generally accepted rules of technology. It is recommended to set the pipe supports, if possible, in the proximity of the fitting and connections.

Uponor MLC & Secondary circulation. Secondary circulation is classified as a system that:    

Provides potable hot water Maintains a temperature in excess of 65°C Replenishes water used in outlet with fresh water (oxygenated water) . Is a pumped circulation system.

If all four of the points are covered your system is classified as a secondary circulation system (or recirculation system). Plastic pipeworks manufactured under BS-7291-1/3 2010 cannot be used in secondary circulation applications. Uponor MLC pipe can be used in secondary circulation because it is manufactured under a different standard (BS EN ISO 21003-1 2008) also because of the aluminum layer within the pipework it has a higher tolerance than a standard PEX pipe system. Although there still should be appropriate water temperature control on the system to ensure the water temperature does not exceed 70°C as stated in our guidelines.
