A Guide to Day Boarding

Unlike Uppingham School UK, Uppingham Cairo is not a Boarding School. However, the only distinction is that our pupils do not sleep at school. Our unique extended programme means that, from the Fives, our pupils can enjoy the same rich immersive experience as their peers in independent boarding schools the UK. All Nursery and Fours children are Day Pupils.

Day Pupils and Day Boarders

We refer to our pupils as either ‘Day Pupils’ or ‘Day Boarders’, and parents are asked to decide between the two options for their son or daughter each year. This means that a pupil can be a ‘Day Pupil’ in the 6s, for example, but be a ‘Day Boarder’ in the 7s depending on the wishes of the family and pupil.

Day Pupils enjoy the full rigour of our broad academic curriculum, and enjoy morning break and lunch each day. They also have optional access to the co-curricular activities provided by the academic staff, which further extends their day as well as Afternoon Tea in the Junior School

Day Boarders follow an identical programme to the Day Pupils during the day, but also have access to:

• The full evening programme of co-curricular activities after school including our specialist sports training and world class sports academies

• Breakfast before school, Afternoon Tea and Supper in addition to morning break and lunch

• Supervised Prep (Homework)

The co-curricular programme is based around the pupils’ enthusiasms, so there is some variation from year to year Underlined clubs are permanent standing clubs which run every academic year, and descriptions of these clubs can be found in the booklet.

UPP&Out

The UPP&Out programme is open to all pupils in the Senior School. Some clubs and activities are only available to Day Boarders and these activities are highlighted in bold.

The final list of clubs and activities for each academic year is shared shortly before the beginning of the Winter Term

A Personalised Programme

We offer a great deal of flexibility for both Day Pupils and Day Boarders, enabling them to create a personalised programme that best suits their interests and aspirations.

It is important to note that Day Boarders do not have to stay until the end of the Day Boarding programme each day. They could, for example, choose to stay until 4.30pm on Sundays, until 9pm on Tuesdays and until 7pm on Wednesdays. We only ask that their weekly schedule remains the same each week, once their options have been chosen.

Furthermore, parents are asked on an annual basis to decide between the two option for the following academic year. This means that a pupil can be a ‘Day Pupil’ one year and a ‘Day Boarder’ the next year.

Collection Times

All pupils can be collected at the end of the academic day, or at the end of the core co-curricular programme, depending on whether they have chosen clubs and activities for that particular day
