■ KAYAKING Oconee County, South Carolina is a kayaker’s dream come true. Whether you are a whitewater or flat water kayaker, Class 2 or Class 5 enthusiast, there is plenty here for you! The Chattooga River offers everything from flat water to Class 5 and runs yearround. Keep in mind: the Chattooga is a “Wild & Scenic” River, which means it is free flowing and NOT dam controlled. Water levels are dependent on the amount of rain the area receives. So plan your kayaking trip accordingly. The most popular sections of the Chattooga are: Section III and Section IV. Section III is about 13 miles of mostly Class 2 and 3 rapids. Section IV is about 7 miles of mostly Class 3
