UP Theater - You Can See All The Stars

Page 1

The University of Portland Theater respectfully acknowledges that our space rests on the traditional village sites of the Multnomah, Wasco, Cowlitz, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Bands of Chinook, Tualatin, Kalapuya, Molalla and many other Tribes who made their homes along the Columbia (Wimahl) and Willamette (Whilamut) rivers. The Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians and the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde currently represent many of these tribes.

We give thanks to them; that we are here on their unceded lands and commit to treating their space as a living breathing entity that needs care and stewardship. We give thanks to this land as we continue to speak up for justice, a place in history, and a place in a future that demands to be better.

Watching a performance about sexual assault can bring back feelings and memories for people who have experienced sexual assault or other forms of intimate partner violence. It can also bring back feelings and memories for people who have supported a friend or family member who experienced intimate partner violence. If you are a UP student and this play has brought up painful feelings or memories, there are people at UP who are here to help.

Please read the following page for information from the UP Health Center, courtesy of Erin Currie.

Anna Dang, she/her (Marcy Wells). Being a senior majoring in Cell, Molecular Biomedical Sciences, Anna plans to go to medical school to become a physician but wants to make the most of her liberal arts education before graduating in the Spring. Despite being heavily focused on the sciences and having no prior experience acting in the theater, Anna eagerly dove head-first into You Can See All the Stars and landed the role of Marcy Wells. While she explores a wide variety of interests related to the arts (visual arts account: @doodleadang), she also loves plants, sending post-cards, identifying different perfume notes, and laughing until her stomach hurts. If you see her at the Learning Commons as a Science Co-pilot, in the Biochemistry lab as a TA, or just strolling around campus, feel free to wave or say hello! Anna is extremely happy to be a part of the cast and hopes you can make it to the showings from October 2-5 at 7:30pm and October 6 at 2:00pm!

Mollie Goldberg*, she/they (Annabelle Martin), is a senior theater major from Kalaheo, HI. Mollie is very excited to play Ana as her first lead role in a UP Theater production. Her previous roles include a queer student in The Prom, a narrator in Peter and the Starcatcher, and an inner thought in the theater club’s 24-hour play, The Hippo on Campus. Mollie would like to thank her family and friends for their support, as well as the cast and

production team. She also gives special thanks to Barbie for allowing her the opportunity to tell this meaningful story, and to learn what it means to use theatre as a vehicle for social change.

Joshua Mager, he/him (Eddie Green, US Kevin Oblanski), is a serious and dedicated actor with a lighthearted flair. He has made his mark in performances ranging from breathtakingly serious to downright silly. He strives for his performances to be believably true, and his characters to be genuine. A senior mechanical engineering major, though he asks you do not hold it against him.

Kayla Matsuoka, she/her (Kim Barrington), is a first-year psychology and arts administration (with a focus in performing arts) double major from the San Jose, CA. She has always loved acting, and is super excited to continue her passion here at UP! She’s a huge extrovert, who loves hanging out with friends, going on walks/outdoor excursions, or staying in, crocheting cute, 3D animals. While her character may seem scary or serious, Kayla herself is very silly and joyful, and would love to meet new friends over boba or lunch! She hopes you enjoy the show!!

Aly Romero, she/her (Stage Directions) is a first year

Elementary Education and Theater major from Anchorage, Alaska. She has been performing since she was three and has been a part of theatre since elementary school. Her recent roles include: Mack/Ensemble in Peter and the Starcatcher, Molly in Agatha Christie’s The Mouse Trap, and Lady Marian in The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood. She is proud to be apart of this production as it shares a story of journeying through impossible cirumstances and how life can continue after. In her very little free time, Aly enjoys crocheting, singing, thrifting, and chilling with her dog. She hopes that you enjoy the show!

Shane Ruyle, he/him (Kevin Oblanksi), is a junior political science and social work double major, and he's excited to be rejoining UP theatre this year! Shane was last seen in Twelfth Night and How Can I Keep From Singing? When Shane isn't on stage, he is working as class senator in ASUP, a student leader at the Moreau Center, and a youth care counselor at Safe Place youth shelter.

Leah Reed, she/her (US Marcy, Ronni), is so excited to be back this fall with UP theatre! She is a senior elementary education major with a minor in theatre and can’t wait for a great final year of theatre. You may recognize her from previous shows here at University of Portland

including The Prom (ensemble), Peter and the Starcatcher (ensemble), The Wolves (#2), and How Can I Keep From Singing? (Mary Margaret). She would like to thank everyone for coming out and seeing the show, your support means so much, and hopes you enjoy the show!

Ana Seisdedos, she/her (Ronni Grissom), is very excited to be a part of You Can See All The Stars. This is her first time performing with University of Portland after transferring from Hawaii Conservatory of Performing Arts in Oahu, Hawaii. Her last performance was with Kaimuki High School in She Kills Monsters. Since then, she has been operating the sound board in an array of different shows, Demigods Anonymous (Windward Community College), Machinal (Windward Community College), Gone Feeshing (Kumu Kahua), and more. Look out for her in future performances as she pursues her BA in Theater here at UP. She thanks her family and friends for their unconditional support. Eu amo todos vocês.

Charlotte has participated in four productions with the University of Portland including TBA as a lighting board operator, she played Ms. Bumbrick in Peter and The Starcatcher, Charlotte also played Francis in These Shining Lives and was assistant stage manager for The Prom. A Few Statistics:

The White House Task Force to Protect Students from Sexual Assault released their first report in April 2024, leading with the following statistic:

1 in 5 college students experiences sexual assault during their college career.

Over half of sexual assaults committed against college students involve alcohol, according to researchers at Wayne State University.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) estimates that 95% of U.S. campus rapes go unreported.

Approximately 2 out of 3 sexual assaults are committed by an attacker that the victim knows, according to the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (RAINN).

Survey results published by RAINN show about 60% of victims do not go to police, and only 25% of reported assaults actually lead to an arrest.
