With just 2m2 per inhabitant, Pasto is facing a substantial shortage of public and recreational space as well as an inequity in the population and distribution. Across the city, and just 300m from its main square, flows the River Pasto, an unseen treasure, hidden behind high walls and houses. To provide access to this great natural potential and to overcome social and spatial inequity, an urban strategy was elaborated by implementing the community-based methodology of the Urban Design Laboratory. This led to specific urban design proposals for the city of Pasto as a result of a 4-month working process on-site.
