President and CEO Geoffery Jackson (R) of Divine Health Water 4U and his son Joshua Jackson, 19 (L) talks to customers at the store in south Augusta. Photo by Vincent Hobbs What is Divine Water Health 4U Inc.? Divine Health Water 4U INC, is a family-owned business based in Hephzibah, GA. The primary purpose of our specialty water store is to educate the community on the benefits of healthy bottled drinking water. We provide the freshest, living bottled water that is full of healthy minerals that the body needs. We also provide a self-fill station and bottled water delivery. Customers can also purchase their own alkaline ionized water machine. Our super-hydrating, high-pH alkaline, ionized, mineral and electrolyte-enriched water helps preserve and improve our customers’ overall well-being. How long have you been in business? Our business was birthed out of our home in 2012 and we opened our specialty store location in Hephzibah,
GA in 2013. What is your education and background? I’m from Daytona Beach, Florida. While serving in the military, I managed to complete three college degrees, with my latest degree being a Master’s Degree in Post-Secondary Education from Troy University. I served over 25 years in the U.S Army, earning the highest enlisted rank, E-9 Sergeant Major. Throughout my military career, I served in every leadership position in the U.S. and in combat zones around the world. I consider myself to be still protecting U.S. citizens - only now as a civilian and a store owner by providing the community with the healthiest and best-tasting, purified, alkaline drinking water in the CSRA and in the nation.
What is alkaline ionized water? Alkaline water ionizer was first introduced by the Japanese over 50 years ago. Alkaline ionized water is nothing new. We’re just bringing water to its simplest life-form. Ionized water is charged with an electrical current, channeling all of the good minerals to the alkaline side and resulting in better living water. The function of a water ionizer is to divide water into two separate streams of alkaline and acidic water. Both have its own unique usage. Our alkaline ionized water has a smooth texture. It is energizing, cleansing and great tasting. It is micro water that has a combination of unique characteristics, possessing unparalleled absorption and hydrating abilities. Rich in alkalizing minerals, microwater aids in buffering the negative effects of over-acidic health conditions. With an
abundance of available electrons, alkaline ionized water renders cell-destroying free radicals harmless in the body.
What are some of the other products you offer at your store? The Divine Health Water 4U menu contains all sizes of drinking water from 16.9 ounces up to five-gallon bottles. We carry three different types of water: alkaline water with four different levels of pH 2; acidic water with three different levels; and our purified water. We also have coffee, tea, cold beverages and ice-cold real fruit juice. We sell counter-top and under-the-counter alkaline ionizers machines along with water pumps, racks and dispensers. We also have healthy AdvoCare products for detoxification, weight loss, workout Continued on next page

performance and rehydration. What types of customers might be interested in purchasing alkaline water? All types of customers, both young and old. They can be in great health or in poor health. Do you provide delivery service to your customers? We provide delivery service for our customers, both residential and commercial. The cost is based on the cost of purchase (minimum $20 or more) and the distance and location from our store. Our delivery service is one that is extensive and reliable. Our philosophy is to passively strive for growth, working harder each day to achieve “Customer Satisfaction” over “Customer Volume”. Divine Health Water 4U Inc. actively seeks new business opportunities while maintaining its low price service guarantee to its dedicated local bottled water customers. We also sell and ship alkaline ionizer machines to 48 States in the U.S.A. What’s next for Divine Health Water 4U? I must start off with this verse from the Bible because I believe, as my wife and I walk into this vision, that God will open continue to open doors that no man can close. “In Him all the treasures of [divine] wisdom (comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God) and [all the riches of spiritual] knowledge and enlightenment are stored up and lie hidden.” Colossians 2:3-9 (Amplified Bible) Currently, Divine Health Water 4U is relying on retail expansion, product innovation, and service innovation to achieve their long-term goal, visualized by owner Geoffery Jackson: “The idea is to create a chain of water stores that would become America’s “First Place.” At this time, most Americans have two places in their lives – home and work. But I believe that people need another place, a place where they can go to relax and enjoy others, or just be by themselves. I envision a place that will be separate from home or work, a place that would mean different things to different people.” By working toward this goal, Divine Health Water 4U wants to open new stores in both new and existing markets, expand their product development process, and cater to customers’ needs to eventually improve their financial position and dominate market share. Worldwide, we are seeing the water store as it should be, as a mini-water plant that provides needed pure drinking water for the community.

MAKIN’ A DIFFERENCE COMMENTARY by Ken Makin
Our commissioners have a decision to make —
Will they be progressive or petty? I’m a resident of North Augusta, and you would not believe the enthusiasm and morale that a water park can bring to a community. As soon as the news hit that Scuttle’s Island water park will open to the public in North Augusta on Memorial Day 2016, it created such a buzz. People were sharing the news on Facebook. Announcements were popping up all over the place. What did I say? “That should have been Augusta.” Imagine that – our commissioners had an opportunity to “steal one” from Columbia County. Scuttle’s Island reps practically begged Columbia County officials to build a water park. When that proposal fell through, the city of Augusta should have jumped at the opportunity. The Regency Mall property would have been the most intriguing, but
the obvious answer is South Augusta. People in this area will practically load up buses to travel to Statesboro to go to the water park. Why not keep those folks – and our dollars – right here in Augusta? NOT A CHANCE! Instead of welcoming park projects, our commissioners just argue about parks. During Tuesday’s committee meeting, it was embarrassing to watch commissioners briefly engage in the slanderous accusations levied against District 4 Commissioner Sammie Sias. He is being accused of financial mismanagement and “mistreatment of children” through his work and leadership through the Jamestown Community Center. Super District 9 Commissioner Marion Williams placed those items on Tuesday’s committee agenda, but the debate went nowhere. (Here’s a
hint: It’s not going anywhere, either). While other communities talk about water parks, Augusta is parked. Stuck in neutral and stuck on stupid. And as a result, residents’ enthusiasm has been drastically curbed. I won’t even get into the (in) convenience of the allegations against Sias coming in the aftermath of his call to end the city’s contract with Gold Cross. The back and forth between commissioners, though, will ultimately support the viewpoints of those who believe Augusta’s government is “corrupt.” We might not be able to confirm where government is corrupt, but we can certainly say it is inept. What we need from our commissioners now is cohesiveness and focus. The governing body said it would get away from petty arguments with this new regime. Through
six months, things ran relatively smoothly. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. Certainly, this regime has time to overcome and work through its difference. With that said, it’s hard to redeem one’s reputation once a first impression is made. That is quickly becoming the case with the Commission as a whole, and all of Augusta is stuck in the mud because of it. Ken J. Makin is the host of “Makin’ A Difference,” an online radio program available on iTunes and Soundcloud (soundcloud.com/makinadifference). Updates on the show are available at facebook.com/makinadifferenceshow. You can also reach Ken by email at makinadifferenceshow@gmail. com, or via Twitter @differencemakin.

Q&A Caroline Hegg COACH: GRU/AUGUSTA’S WOMEN’S GOLF TEAM
Interview by Vincent Hobbs
If you just happen to stroll by the greens adjacent to the J. Fleming Norvell Golf House at the GRU Athletic Complex during a practice session, you might overhear a calm, affirming voice teaching an athlete-golfer on the nuances of making the putt or enhancing a downswing. The confident demeanor in the newest faces on the GRU Augusta voice characterizes someone who truly campus – newly recruited women’s loves the game of golf. Meet one of the golf coach Caroline Hegg. What are some of the aspects of coaching golf that you enjoy the most? The enthusiasm and energy of college student athletes is contagious, and I really love getting to watch them grow up as golfers and young women. I’m a competitive person, so I enjoy immersing myself in the team’s goals and daily challenges. I also get to travel the world, experience great places and interact with a wide variety of individuals.
What are some of the goals for the women’s golf team this season? This is a very talented squad with a lot of experience, and we have a good schedule of competitions this year. My goal is for us to qualify for the NCAA Championship, but that is a long way off and we have a lot to improve upon before we’re in that position. Short term, I am working very hard to understand the players on our roster, see how each person can improve, and communicate a plan with them to accomplish their individual goals. I’m also busy identifying recruiting prospects, first here in the southeast and then beyond.
What is your impression of Augusta so far? I’ve been overwhelmed by the support and enthusiasm the Augusta community has shown me and our golf program in the short time I’ve been the coach here. Obviously, Augusta natives take their golf very
seriously, and so do I. There are so many great places for our team to practice and play, and I’m looking forward to taking advantage of these options. Personally, my husband and I enjoy going out and experiencing new places, so we’ve had a good time visiting local restaurants and learning about the area.
How did you become interested in playing golf? I grew up in Culver, Indiana, which is a small resort town with about 1500 full-time residents. As long as I can remember, I would go play golf with my big brother, David, and my father every day in the summer, mainly because there wasn’t a whole lot else to do. Golf was a part of my life every day (except when it snowed and like all self-respecting Indiana natives, I switched to basketball). I had a very successful junior golf career and played collegiately at Purdue. After graduating, I got a real job and thought I was ready to move on and try something new. That phase lasted less than a year, and I found myself back in golf as a course pro and instructor. Golf has been a fundamental aspect of my life for as long as I can remember, and I’m very grateful to still be in the game and to have the opportunity to share my passion and knowledge with others.

er, but mainly I liked him because in fourth grade I had to write a letter to a celebrity in English class – and I chose him. He sent me back an autographed 8x11 picture that immediately became the centerpiece of my bedroom wall! In high school and beyond, I gained a lot of admiration for Juli Inkster. She is a fiery competitor who might not be the most talented player around Who is your favorite golfer? Why? or have a textbook swing, but she Growing up, I was a fan of Nick always plays hard and competes. She Price. He was a really great ball strik- understands that good golf is a result
of execution and attitude, not having perfect fundamentals. In her 50’s, she’s still making cuts on the LPGA tour. Also, I always respected Annika Sorenstam’s steady, hard-working approach to the game and the way she constantly tried to get better. It might sound cliché, but my current favorites are the eight women on the GRU Augusta roster. I take my role in their development and success very seriously, and regardless of the outcome, I will always give them my best.

Jazz At The G kicks off second year at Georgia Regents University Sept. 12
GPB Augusta, in cooperation with Georgia Regents University Department of Music, Garden City Jazz, The Greater Augusta Arts Council, NBC26TV, and The Maxwell Theatre, is launching the second year of Jazz At The G, a series of jazz concerts on GRU’s Summerville Campus. The first concert of the season is 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at the outdoor D. Douglas Barnard Jr. Amphitheatre.
Wycliffe Gordon, The Mike Frost Band featuring Lauren Meccia, and The Travis Shaw Trio are scheduled to perform. Additionally, a contingent from the GRU Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Rob Foster, is scheduled to perform. Jazz trombonist Gordon rarely performs with the group of versatile musicians that will join him on stage for this performance. With more players and
instruments on stage, this ensemble allows him to ‘stretch out’ and bring a new energy and improvisation to the presentation,” said GPB-Augusta Station Manager Drew Dawson. “It is Wycliffe Gordon cutting loose and having fun with some incredibly talented musicians, while bringing the audience along for the ride.”Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnic
baskets for the grass-covered terraces of the Barnard Amphitheatre. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be moved indoors to the ballroom in the Jaguar Student Activity Center. Admission is $10 for the general public; $5 for active military. Tickets are available at the Maxwell Theatre box office and online atgru.edu/maxwelltheatre.
