The Australian-based Urban Road has an extensive range of unique and lovingly created designs and patterns to blend with your home décor. ABOUT URBAN ROAD’S ARTWORK Urban Road is the perfect place to be for original and inspiring art prints on canvas. Suzie’s artworks are a combination of hand painted art and digital design, printed on 100% cotton canvas using giclee printing methods and eco-solvent inks. Each is then stretched over 3cm kiln dried stretcher bars and gallery wrapped, which means the image is stretched around the edges of the frame to create a seamless, museum-quality finish. In addition to canvas printing and stretching, we now offer black and white timber box framing for all canvas sizes.

THE ARTIST | SUZIE ATKIN

Born in California, Suzie’s family moved to Australia when she was a child. Raised in Sydney, Suzie fell in love with art from a young age and was deeply inspired by her creative mother and the travel she experienced growing up. After working in the professional world of I.T. For over 10 years, Suzie decided to ditch her suit and follow her passion for making beautiful artworks and create her own line, Urban Road. Suzie holds a deep passion for art and interiors, with hope for inspiring living spaces and a vision for creating accessible and affordable contemporary art, without compromising on quality.

“I think of art as an ever-changing journey and one that I love being on. I take my inspiration from my urban surroundings and transform these into pieces that I hope will uplift any home or office space,” says Suzie.

BRITT BASS FOR URBAN ROAD | Designer Collection “My work is about process and intution. I am ever searching for ways to create subtleties and surprises through fine details and passageways. I feel the work takes on its own life, and the subconscious of the painting and my own intuition mutualistically guide the process. Through layering, adding and omitting I explore this artistic relationship until it culminates into a whole, finished piece. I grew up in a suburb outside Atlanta where I fell in love with color and design at a young age. I always knew I wanted to create things. My mom has worked in the industry my whole life from running her own sewing workroom, to faux painting and interior design. I was so fortunate to have such a creative influence: all of that exposure to color and texture helped me fall in love with ‘making’ early on. I graduated from the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia in May of 2011 with a degree in Art Education with an emphasis on painting. I am currently living in Athens, painting and making installations full time. In addition to my studio here, I also have a showroom at the Goat Farm in Atlanta.”

Little Branch is an Australian designed and made artisan paper line of gift cards, wrapping paper and limited edition art prints. The art and design at Little Branch is distinctly seasonal. Each collection has a strong personal aesthetic and vision with itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s own little history and lexicon of materials. Little Branch is Maree Oaten: graphic designer, world traveler, photographer, mother of three and collector of shoes, miniature clothes pegs and vintage fabric swatches. Little Branch is Anna Johnson: artist, author and poet, arch romantic, tree lover, mother of two and collector of Eastern textiles, teacups and fallen branches. They met more than ten years ago working at a creative agency and went on to conceive the design of two books together. Divided by the Atlantic, Maree was in London working on graphics for companies such as Selfridges and Jimmy Choo when Anna was in New York writing her fourth book and features for In-Style and Conde Nast Traveler. In 2009 the pair returned to Sydney and combined their talents to start their own bespoke, environmentally responsible, hand-drawn and designed paper line. LITTLE BRANCH FOR URBAN ROAD | Designer Collection When does printed canvas “look like a painting?” Usually when an artwork is painted in the first place. The original painted art created for the Little Branch canvas collection, in collaboration with Urban Road, is based on still lives and images that the Branchettes (Maree Oaten and Anna Johnson) had admired in European flea markets and mysterious hallways and on old black and white photographs of eccentric art collections. The impetus for this series came from the idea of the abundant hang, that somewhat crazy country house aesthetic for mixing all sorts of genres and sizes of canvas on one wall over time. Stretched canvas might be square, but it needn’t be neat. A rambling bohemian spirit sprouts up with every beautiful thing you choose to hang and Little Branch adore the idea of an evershifting gallery. Little Branch is inspired by: Constance Spry, Frida Kahlo’s blue house, sublime landscapes, Outsider art, Klimt’s stocking tops, rain and rain boots, over flowing mantel pieces, geological collections, cabinets of curiosity, Rodin’s water colours, electric blue hydrangea, love in a cold climate, Earl Grey with a pinch of lavender, early morning silence, French water colour paper and the absurd genius of children. Maree is minimal, orderly and attracted to sculptural form, innovative publishing and bright, bright colour. In a past life she could have been an architect with a secret sideline in ceramics. Anna collects vases, tea cups and shoes and bustles the school run with gardening sheers in her handbag...because you never know where the next magnolia tree is hiding. It’s all in these new works, bleeding into life, soaking up the strange colours of the seasons, dancing between decades, having a proper conversation with a bare white wall.
