The Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological, and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) competition will once again take center stage at the NAACP's 114th National Convention in Boston. ACT-SO represents the culmination of a year's worth of local programs organized by NAACP branches across the country,
Since its inception in 1978, ACT-SO has involved over 300,000 high school students in various fields, including visual arts, business, performing arts, and culinary arts. Participants work with community-based volunteers for a year to develop their projects and performances, celebrating Black excellence in every sector.
All attendees of the NAACP National Convention in Boston will have the chance to experience the participants' work throughout the event. STEM projects and artworks will be on display in the ACT-SO STEM & Visual Arts Gallery from July 28 to 30, 2023. On July 28th, the culinary arts will be showcased during the ACT-SO Taste & Savor Culinary Experience. The ACTSO Awards on July 29, 2023, will present top prizes, including scholarships and other rewards.
The convention, themed "Thriving Together," will take place from July 26th to August 1st and will feature extensive programming addressing critical issues faced by Black communities

COLUMBUS, OH, UNITED STATES, June 22, 2023/EINPresswire.com/ -- Destiny Carter, an 18-year-old community leader, is calling for members of her generation to become more involved in their communities.
“We need to step up and take action,” Carter said. “We can’t just sit back and let things happen. We need to be the change we want to see.”
Carter is a member of the Youth Advisory Council for the city of Columbus, OH. She has also volunteered with several local organizations, including the KidsLinked, Columbus City School, and Melinda Payne Events. “I’ve seen firsthand the impact that young people can have on their communities,” Carter said. “When we get involved, we can make a real difference.”
