Coming from an extensive background in music and working with many indie artists for many years, I wanted to do more to help those creative souls who travel a hard road exposing their talents. As the shift in resources and outlets for indie artists become limited or pose as a high-end investment requirement, many artists today soon give up and silence their voice. There had to be a way to help give them to be heard beyond the lyrics of their music...thus we create Musiek Magazine. My hopes are to highlight indie artists who deserve a platform to speak and encourage other artists through their stories & experiences not to give up on their craft. I truly want everyone to share this magazine not just to make this magazine "hot" but to help the artists we highlight reach more people through our publication. I'm excited for all that we will accomplish with Musiek Magazine and I look forward to helping many artists reach new heights through our publication. My goal has always ben to introduce to others the talent and abilities of those that are around us daily. My experiences with artists of various genres and talent gives a unique perspective to their dreams and goals, and that needs to be shared to the masses. I still remember sitting in a cafeteria talking to two brothers that told me of their music and how they are going to NY and become famous. While listening to their demo, I was amazed by their talent. Those brothers were KC and Jo Jo. , And well, you know the rest‌.. Working with DeMario, I know Musiek will be a vehicle for those artists, producers, DJs and venues that remember the beauty of music and how it connects us. To sit and listen to the first tracks , the story of sacrifice, and the success gained. This is the purpose of Musiek!

Her Vibe… Her Music.. Her Message

AHREE By CWspeaks

36

Ahree’….

She defines her music as

RnB/Neo Soul with a dash of jazz... At the age of three this multi-talented artist began singing in the choir at her home church in Charlotte NC. By the age of six she had become a soloist. This interview showed us how music was not only her lifeline while struggling with childhood illnesses, but evolved to be an intimate part of her very being. Ahree…tell us your musical background…. I started singing in the youth choir at the age of 3, I remember the choir director giving me my first lead song and I just grabbed the mic, I don’t ever remember being afraid. I guess it was just second nature for me. By the age of six I was singing on the adult choir as well. Every time there was an opportunity to sing a solo, I was always given a song along with the direction to “girl bless the church with your voice”. Gospel music will always be a part of me, I first understood the power of music via the delivering of music in church, I always felt so accomplished and warmed when watching people moved while I sang. I actually first thought about being an exclusive gospel artist, but decided my true desire was to venture out as an RnB artist, but do know my music will always be grounded by my gospel roots. And your influences? I was influenced by Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Alicia Keys, Adele, Aaliyah,

John Legend and the jazz great Nina Simone. So how that has attributed to your uniqueness and style? I love music that clearly gives a message, you know you hear the song and you say to yourself “I know what you’re talking about”, The artists that have influenced me the most, are the type of artists delivering a type of groove that makes you think your sitting back listening to a story being told by a close friend or family member. You know the kind of message that says this is life….be it my world or your world, life is still the same... a cycle of laughter and tears. I love them because they have this crazy ability to turn poetry into music that gives energy to the mind and spirit. The same goes for Keys, Aaliyah, Adele, and Legend, they all have their own signature sound and style and yet a similar uniqueness in the ability to make you chill out, lay back and just breathe in their music. I want my listeners to escape through my songs and be able to not just “hear” a great beat, but also “feel” the message of the lyrics. My style of music has no boundaries, sometimes I’m in a jazzy mood and like Nina Simone, would prefer to tell you a story from a low pitch sultry angle of pure emotions, or I can also switch it up on the mood and give you a light airy vibe that is pure upbeat and fun. One thing for sure, my style is pretty versatile, but my music will always have a continuous message….Life is

37

What aboutf R&B today? Do you have a favorite artist? I believe that R&B today is extremely versatile, which is actually a great thing to see happen as music evolves. I’m also starting to see new artists coming from everywhere and it amazes me to see everyone’s individuality and creativity showing through their artistry. Also, I love that the 90’s feel of music is starting to come back into style which is exciting to me since I am a big fan of 90’s music. One of my favorite new artists today is Alessia Cara, she is a young new artist with a jazzy Urban-Pop type of vibe that reminds me of my own style. Tell us about VIBE, in your own words? VIBE is all about taking time to relax and reflect. I’m young, but trust I know what being stretched beyond your emotional and physical limits feel like. I’m still in school and often feel stressed when trying to keep good grades while simultaneously being on a musical grind. When I wrote VIBE, I was in a burnt out mood, and was feeling some type of way…so I picked up the pen and the words started to flow. I’m finding out quickly, that when emotions run high, words flow fast. I got to the hook which is “can I vibe for a minute”, and said that’s the message. Let’s VIBE for a minute everybody and take time to bathe in the beauty of living despite our struggles. I want my listeners to hear VIBE and know that they have some control over the chaos that sometimes comes with everyday problems. VIBE a song simply encouraging relaxation and inner peace.

MUSIC Spotlight 44

You’ve worked with one of the innovators of music, Teddy Riley…what have you gained from such an opportunity? Well it's been and still is an honor working alongside of such greatness. I recall the 1st time writing with him while he went through a million sounds to put in the track I was already writing lyrics for .I started getting impatient wondering if we were ever get this track done. But, when he finally fished the track it was well worth the wait...at that moment i found out the importance of sound selection and how each sound must have a tie in connection and my words connected to each other. And, of course I learned so much watching him and listening to him scream at us about rocking the stage and taking advantage of every moment given to engage and connect to the crowd or a front row fan that is screaming for more. With your current portfolio, you show great versatility in the industry. Tell us how important that is to you. I come from the church so I'll always have a gospel track or gospel/inspirational lyrics in my veins lol. I’ve worked with Country, Alternative Rock, R&B and Pop artists. I have always stated in my writers workshop or even in my writing sessions that we as writers should become the kinds of writers that when given the opportunity be prepared to write to and type of record for any type of artist....THAT WILL ALLOW YOU TO HAVE MORE WORK

state and county came out to see me perform and I must give them their money’s worth . If you saw me back stage you'd see me stretch as if I’m about to run a race or as I f calling the coach just put me in the game. I’ll have the focus look on my face as if I'm a focused boxer really to fight. There have been time I've shed tears climbing inside character while singing and performing

some lyrics that hit home to the core my current love life.....OH HOW I LOVE THE STAGE With music changing daily, what’s next? I'm looking to make my mark into the TV and movie market... Those that know J-Stylz know that I am a character...lol Keep up to date with J Stylz music and upcoming events at:
