Who is going to Take Care of You When you Need Assistance? Jason Matthews President & C.E.O. of Matthews Financial & Insurance Solutions

We as humans been on Earth for over 10,000 years. But: we did not start retiring till 1889 in Germany. Back then we retired then we lived for couple of years then we died. During those years we lived we usually lived near our kids and grandkids. But; over the last 50 years many things have change. Our children now are living in different cities due to better economic opportunities for themselves. The life expectancy of person in 1900 was 47 years old. While now it’s 78 years old due to advancement of science. Even with the advancement of science we still get sick. We have strokes, cancer, Parkinson’s, diabetes or we have mental illnesses like Alzheimer’s or dementia. We all know 1 person who might have any of those diseases. So, there is 2 questions I ask you? Who is going to help you when you need assistance? And How are going to pay for their assistance? When we are talk about who is going to help us with assistance the 1 thing we thing of is our family our spouse, kids, grand kids or other family members. Before we assume that they are going to take care of us we need to ask few questions. Can they help me? If you need 24 hour care do your family members have the time to assist you in bathing, eating or dressing to name a few. Do they live close enough to help you on day to day operation? Do they have the health to take care of you? The 2nd think you should ask is do they personality to take of me? Do they have the patience to take care of me or are they impatient? The last question is do they have money to take care of you. If they are bread winner of their primary family how can they take excessive time off to take care of you? If they are allowed to take the

time off can do they afford to take care of you, 4, 8, 12 or 24 hours a day? If we don’t think of our primary family members to assist us we usually look at another relative for help that family member is Uncle Sam. We think, “Hey I been paying him all these years he should help out.” But; that is not necessarily the case. It will help us with our health insurance once we hit a certain age with Medicaid and Medical but; he won’t help us with assistance of our day to day lives unless we do a few things. Here are the few things. We must spend all of our hard earn money and assets before he assist us or we must put those things in special trust 3 years prior to needing his assistance. Have you ever seen Uncle Sam facilities? They are not exactly the Ritz Carlton. The other thing that comes to mind when we think of assistance is we are going to pay for it ourselves. We are balling! We saved enough money in our lives that we can afford to pay for assistance. I am glad you can afford assistance. The question you must ask yourself is how long and how much can afford for assistance at my house. If not at my house at a facility? Can I afford to pay $20,000- $105k in assistance? Depending on how much help I need. The last idea we think about when we ask who is going to help me is insurance. Yes, long term care insurance cost and so does assistance. But; there is more than just your normal long term care insurance that can give you insurance for assistance. There are life insurance policies that have a rider that allows the death benefit to pay for long term care and so does annuities. I am not saying that long term care insurance is answer. What I am saying is when thinking about retirement don’t just think about travelling around the world, starting a new hobby or golfing every day. But; ask the question who is going to assist me when I need help? No man or woman is island by themselves. Follow Mr. Jason : @mfisguru Email: matthewsfinancial@gmail.com Phone: (510)229-7608

Angelle Clarke UTC: Hello! Please introduce yourself to us and our faithful readers! AC: My name is Angelle Clarke, I go by the name Supa Star. UT: We are excited to share this platform with emerging artists and designers! You’ve graced the art world with paintings, and we’d like to know, what inspires you? AC: My inspiration, wow!... I’m inspired by God, and my mother Maurine Martell: a Jazz lover and musician for over seventy years. I’m also inspired by old Hollywood movies: the glamour and power of it all. UT: I’d like to preface this question by stating that as a creative myself, I’ve come to realize that we (artists) aren’t born with restraints, there is no limit to the things we can do. We find inspiration in many places, some of us sew, paint, style hair, compose music, bake, build toy trains... lol! What drives you, and how long have you been painting? AC: I want everything to be beautiful, fun and obnoxiously fantastic. I believe that artists change the world. UT: As an expressionist through art, I can relate to many of your paintings. I think others would say the same, please share your contact information with us. AC: My studio Star’s Experience is located in Los Angeles’ historic Leimert Park Arts District. I can be contacted at the following number: (323) 915.8836 and email address: angelleclarke21@gmail.com UT: Thank you for your time, the Family embraces you... AC: Thank you, I’m grateful!

Oakland Remembers: Bill Graham By Gale Madyun The design for the utility box located on the corner of 17th & Broadway, Downtown Oakland. Boldly, sits for reflection for the next two years. I’m pleased for the opportunity to share my creative process manifested in the four panels. I sought my ancestors to guide me inside streams and banks of emotions and colors, dilemmas and paradoxes. Opening into the agony and ecstasy of what it means to be swept into passion. I melted into that snow and avalanche to edge towards the broad strokes of landscapes. I wanted the colors with history on their backs with the power to summon the earliest memories of escapes, survival, and solace. It was the Paramount and Fox Oakland Theaters, in its colors and spaces, which offered a glimpse. Mr. Graham was an astute businessman who was favored to make capital on the music of the times. Oakland was swinging and dancing in light and shadow to be the North Facing Panel. With clamors of rhythmic notes and singing and swaying souls over Lake Merritt, it was early mornings, in the fog, at the Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center that painted a bittersweet revival. It’s Lake Merritt, where its fresh water converges with seawater that magic is able to occur and it did. Charles Sullivan, a pioneer of R&B concert promotions, was the original mixed musical genres genius and successful African American businessman who owned the Fillmore ballroom master lease. He orchestrated shows that featured Duke Ellington and James Brown on the same bill from Los Angeles to New York. He allowed the entrepreneur Bill Graham to stand upon his shoulders. Mr. Graham carried on that legacy as he brought The Grateful Dead together with Miles Davis. I melted into the fog of purple robes as everything in the arena came forth. When the Coliseum came with its festive circles and markings for Days on the Green, I was ready for the sound of drums as the South Facing Panel was painted. Admiral stories of personal triumphs of survival and a tempered determined consciousness radiates conversations of his genius. Bill Graham’s escape from Nazi Germany into the mercifulness of love and shelter had to impassion his spiritual roots. It happened for him and his determination was planted into the cosmic rays of universal mercy where whimsical pastels and clouds is a platform for a solitary microphone surrounded with drums. This was flow for the East Panel. It’s appropriate for the sketchy building with multiple shapes and colors of suggestion and passion to have a hold in the blue skies of musical notes and golden longings. It’s the West Facing Panel built on the roughness of blues and greens that pled to the imagination where the convergent and divergent forces can be appreciated for its humanitarian activism of the sixties and seventies. Bill Graham, the visionary, said of those magical times, “Who could have dreamed in 1965 that the alternative society would eventually multiply to such extraordinary proportions that it becomes our mainstream?”

-David A. DuersonMy drive to create art comes from a need, not a want. It’s not a choice about whether or not I want to do it; I can postpone it, but I cannot escape from it. I create art in response to personal feelings, experiences, and life lessons. My art grows, matures, and erupts in novel series of work. Although each series may not appear to be connected, all are integral representations of my life. My most recent series of ink paintings represent strong feelings I tend to keep hidden deep within me. Ranging in size from 36"x48" to 11"x14" these paintings were created in response to my experience of awakening and the desire to create major changes in my life. Their titles are symbolic of the core of my experiences. Unlike my typical work where I am very detailed, these smaller paintings are more abstract and leave open gaps, representing the future that still unformed. This series is intimate, personal, heart- opening, revealing and honest. What I can’t describe in words, I have put into my images. The purpose of my art is to show and reflect upon life experiences to help us better understand ourselves and others, and to explore the inevitability of change. By channeling emotions, experiences, beauty, and awareness into my artwork, it serves as a stepping stone to long-term transformation, personal growth, and the well-being of myself and others who interact with and enjoy my art. Drawing is an integral part of my artistic process. Even when I paint, I spend about 90% of the time drawing first. This is where I find my artistic expression and enjoy the freedom to challenge and experiment with new ideas. Although I can draw in any dry media, I favor colored ink drawing for its precision, color saturation, and as my study method for painting. Most problems in painting can be worked out through the development of strong drawing skills. Drawing also helps me to bring color and joy into the moment. Today art encompasses many traditions, cultures, and channels of expression. It absorbs modern trends and mediums as vehicles of delivering creative messages. Art is a representation of humanity and my artwork is the symbol of my thoughts and life. I hope that over time my drawings and paintings will continue to evolve and mature to the greatest extent possible both creatively and technically. I aspire to make beautiful, powerful art that is rooted in the classical tradition, yet contains a contemporary aesthetic. I hope to be able to look back at the many years I have spent learning and growing, and to state proudly "I am an artist whose work truly mattered, transforming people’s hearts and minds."

Available at www.EducatedThug-Publications.com and Amazon.com, the first two of a trilogy Street Royalty takes you on a journey through the JL with Sincere as he attempts to exit the street life and all its consequences. Not written to glorify one being a savage in the pursuit of happiness but to show ones growth and development as a man, from a mind state of a 5%er but not representing all 5%ers. Street Royalty speaks from the perspective of a young black male in Amerikkka who's dealing with and inner struggle and thought of possibly becoming a slave to his own loyalty, all while going through stages in life where he's aware of the consequences for his actions. It's said that if you want people to learn anything you have to make it register and relate. With that understood I write these stories real and relevant with the goal of showing that growth and development in a person's mind will eventually alter their actions. Take this tumultuous ride as Sincere battles rival dope boys, crooked cops, and attempts to survive the lengthy prison sentence that comes with being Street Royalty.

but really look at the world with a creative eye. Well life took over, had children to raise and let my creativity be used for their class projects or fund raisers. Now they're grown and it's my turn. I would create and give away to friends and family, then one of my best friends told me to stop giving my creations away and start selling. I was petrified because I didn’t know how my work would be received. So I began selling but I wasn’t getting joy from it because I was making what I thought people would want to buy, solid colors, simple designs totally not MY style. Then I had a long talk with myself and realized that what I created for myself is what drew the attention. I love colors, I love atypical designs, I love making it not look like your grandmothers crochet. So I started over from scratch and just let my creativity flow, mistakes turned into beautiful purses, shawls, ponchos, jewelry and whatever popped into my mind I would make and now I have my joy and it shows through all of my creations. I stepped out on faith and discovered the wonders of what I could create with yarn and a little attitude. I wear and love to see others wear one of a kind, handcrafted fashion accessories. C.K.: Both of these two spirits are imbued with a cocktail history and are not commonly produced here in the U.S. Markets. Aquavit is a Scandinavian Spirit with flavors of caraway and anise that has made a popular gift to receive for generations, which can come as either a clear spirit or barrel aged. Genever, which is a precursor to the Modern Gin, sold in current markets. Our version unlike the original is a lighter texture than it’s originating predecessor.

Its pace accelerating with the turning of each page, "Of Anger and Revenge" sees progeny paying dearly for the ills of its ancestry. It is a ripe fusion of deception and anguish, of tragedy and of children and women abuse, of thwarted political ambition and of undying rivalry as painful memories rush from one page to the next, preoccupying the present. Fela embodied this spirit. He defined himself according to his convictions. He refused to follow the herd even though that became an unpopular decision in the then Nigeria. His dedication to perfecting his craft is evident in the extend and impact of the work that he produced over the years. For whatever reason, modern clubs seemed to ignore Fela. This clearly no longer holds true. Felabration is now an annual event on the AGVL calendar and in present day Nigeria. It continues to grow in significance judging not only be the numbers but by the calibre of DJs participating in this. Previous events have featured "Dego from the electronic music band 4Hero from London. Together with his partner ‘Marc Mac’ is known as the early pioneers of Break Beat and Drum n Bass Music. The group’s album ‘Two Pages’was also nominated for the best album from the United Kingdom and Ireland in 1998." AGVL We navigated these musical planets that night in November in Soweto through the ear and skilful hands of KsK starting the night with jazz and lost

ourselves to Durban based Zen Kai Kai who hit a nerve when he dropped massive hit after another. We could not expect anything different from the force that is Trev the Japanese and the fresh sound of the band. By the time Rich took over, the crow was well marinated and worked up a thirst. With painted faces, lips and colourful African prints in dashikis and bucket hats, coming from as far as 200km away to be part of this music history, dancing well into the early hours of the Saturday morning. Perhaps someday soon, Afrika will have its own Hall of Fame to honour our great. The likes of Fela will not fall through the memory cracks as the likes of Allan Kwela seem to have. Our hopes of preserving and continuing the legacy of those that came before remain alive, when in Philadelphia and Soweto, young people celebrate the magic that is Fela.

I now live in Kriel, a small mining town in Mpumalanga, eastern province, South Afrika. I grew up in different parts of SA, we moved a lot when I was young. So I went to school away from home only returning home for visits. I frequently had to search for my home when I return at the end of the school term, make new friends, sometimes even learn a new language. This life, for me, was fertile ground for stories. I started telling these stories in little verses , now I use photography too. It is addictive, it has changed the way I view my surroundings. Colour, texture, shape/form, size, distance, light, speed, facial expessions and stories behind it; all these have become how I make sense of what I see. My stories are South Afrika's stories, my country and my people are all I can speak of confidently and comfortably. They're narrations from elders, events unfolding before our eyes and these worlds that our children create. They're different perspectives of ordinary things, stories that meet their match in images and images that breed stories.
