On the breeze of evening stealing, Old St. John's sweet bell is pealing, Blending with .my every feeling, Joy or woe. II. Ah ! how oft its iron tongue, From the tower where it swung, Spoke to me In the years that now are numbered With the past. My heart then slumbered, And, with car~encumbered, Life was free.
