RITA RICKS “Speaking to your Spirit”

Rita Ricks is unlike any other speaker on the speaking circuit, because she coaches as she speaks. Her wisdom, wit, energy and encouragement are the catalysts which inspire her audiences to renew the person within. Rita’s dynamic presentations are custom made for each audience and, wherever possible, she moves through the audience to personally connect with individuals. She shares her life’s experiences. She uplifts her audiences with a motivating power that awakens all that hear her. She speaks to your spirit. Rita began her career as a middle school teacher. Listening to her spirit, however, led her to become a partner in a fashion boutique. She soon realized that even as she helped people to look stylish on the outside, the clothes covered hurts, fears and often times a life purpose not followed. Through her work at the boutique, Rita began to coach life back into people. After two years at the boutique, she listened to her spirit and decided to combine her talents, skills and experience and open her own business. Rita launched Mirror Enterprise, a professional and personal development company in 1988. The company opened as an image consulting business. Rita emphasized the importance of a positive first impression to men, women and students through a workshop she developed called The Impact of Image. She also produced an etiquette video entitled Careering: A Concept for Success. The 45-minute video and workbook shows the proper way to interview, appropriate business dress, effective networking and proper meal etiquette. In 1990, Mirror Enterprise incorporated and broadened its service offerings to include diversity training, leadership development, customer service, team building and management/supervisory training. Listening to her spirit once more, Rita is now a full-time Professional Speaker and Life Coach. She has over 20 years of speaking experience and a deep-rooted passion for helping people find their unique gift. Through her workshops and speeches, Rita teaches her audiences how to define their passion, claim their purpose and take charge of their lives. Rita connects with people – empowering them to live their lives and enjoy every day. Her zest for making a difference in the lives of others is real. She inspires, empowers and spiritually uplifts everyone that is within the sound of her voice. In 2007, Rita wrote and published “PERMISSION GRANTED! A JOURNAL OF SPIRITUAL EPIPHANIES”. This seminar will put the tools of the professional mediator into your hands to build better workplace relationships, enhance performance, improve productivity, and cut the unnecessary financial costs of workplace conflict. Learn to determine when problems can be solved by managerial mediation; prepare the best context for a mediation meeting; perform the three primary tasks of the manager-as-mediator; and negotiate agreements to prevent recurrence. This seminar is designed not only for managers, but for supervisors, team leaders, members of self-managing work teams, and human resource staff, or any employee who is responsible for the cooperative work of others. It is also excellent preparation for future leaders! SUMMER 2009 THINK AGAIN

Navigating the MultiGenerational Workplace

NEW! There is much discussion today in business about the importance of welcoming people from diverse backgrounds who bring different perspectives to the workplace. Yet when we think of diversity, we usually think of race and gender. Age in an important element in developing a diverse team of people as well. For the first time in history, four generations of people are finding themselves working side by side. It is imperative that companies not only satisfy the needs of the established Baby Boomers and Traditionalists who hold most of the jobs, but also attract the talented tech savvy Gen X and Millennial employees and customers if they are to be successful. The different generations don’t always understand each other or see eye-to-eye. With eduation and communication, the generational gaps can be bridged and successfully navigated. This is a fun topic that takes a look at the past and the future in order to ensure that all generations are appreciated, valued and optimized in the workplace and the marketplace. Successful Novel Writing: The Art & Craft of Plot

A novel is a work of dramatic fiction, and the drama in a novel is achieved through the plot. 99% of all novels submitted to literary agents, publishing houses and writing contests are rejected because of shortcomings in the plot. In this class we will take an extended and extensive look into this thing called plot, in order to assist you in achieving your writing and publishing goals. Through discussion, examples, and classroom, we will look into, among other things, what plot is, what it is not, where it comes from, the difference between storyline and plot line, the difference between character-driven story and plot-driven story, when to introduce plot into the storyline, how to build on it, and the importance of understanding the function of plot and its critical relevance for understanding virtually all other novel elements and principles (dialogue, description, scenes). This course is open to writers with works-in-progress and/or completed works.

Truth, Memory and Creative Non-Fiction

“The boundaries of creative nonfiction,” according to author Mary Clearman Blew, “will always be as fluid as water.” In this “fluid” writing process, we will reflect on the richness of our personal stories and then employ narrative techniques to create honest memoirs and personal essays. Students will acquire skills to identify and evaluate the stages of the writing process, understand creative nonfiction forms and elements, and learn to critically evaluate their writing and the writing of others. SUMMER 2008 THINK AGAIN

Children’s Technology Workshop icamp™

Children's Technology Workshop icamp provides children in grades 2 - 8 with the chance to author their own day camp experience. Children complete applied-technology adventures that are customized to their skill level. Activities occur both on and off the computer with a focus on engineering and robotics, video game creation, animation, and graphic design. During the first activity at camp, children will select 3 - 6 adventure projects that they will complete during their week-long session. Students can choose from among 10 theme-based adventures: Animation Alive; Expedition Egypt; Fashion Designer; Mission to Mars; Medieval; Architect; Olympics; Team F1 Racing; Rescue; and Gamemaker Guru (grades 4 - 8 only). Our highly trained adventure guides help children to select programs that suit their age, area of interest, and skill level to maximize the fun and thrill of success. Student-teacher ratio is 7 to 1. Students can choose to attend a half-day or fullday camp. If attending for half-day, students should bring a snack and drink. If attending for the fullday camp, students should bring snacks, drinks and a bag lunch. Students will take fun activity breaks outside, so please send students to camp with sunscreen and appropriate clothing. Fee: $289 for half-day (morning or afternoon) week of camp, or $549 for full-day (9am – 4pm) week of camp. Full day campers should register for both the morning and afternoon session for the week, and they will receive a discount. Note: Please register using the CRN that corresponds to the week and session and you choose. If registering for a full day, please include both the morning CRN and afternoon CRN on the registration form.

SUMMER 2009 THINK AGAIN

Study smarter. Not harder.

2009 Summer Reading Programs Phonics • Comprehension • Fluency • Love of Reading

Five Different Programs for 4-Year-Olds through Entering 5th Graders. These programs teach the essential phonics and comprehension skills required to become a fluent reader. Our students also learn the wordattack skills needed for multisyllable words, as well as the advanced comprehension skills required for textbooks and literature. Mastery of these skills will make reading much easier and more enjoyable, and will greatly increase your child’s confidence in school.

Comprehension • Speed Reading • Study Skills

Programs for Entering 6th-8th and Entering 9th-11th Graders. Our average student improves reading comprehension one to two grade levels while more than doubling reading speed. Students can learn the best way to improve vocabulary, study textbooks, take notes, and prepare for tests. Learning these skills will make it easier to complete assignments quickly and get better grades, and will help your child become a successful, motivated student.

Speed Reading for Work, School, and Recreation

For Adults, College Students, and Entering High School Seniors. Our adult speed reading program may help you read three to four times faster in novels, newspapers, and most business and school materials. In more difficult reading, such as academic and professional journals or college textbooks, you can learn to read two to three times faster. In addition, you’ll learn comprehension, concentration, and retention techniques, enabling you to remember more, while reading much faster. As a special bonus, you will receive a lifetime instruction privilege which allows you to repeat the program at any time–for free! These popular classes are taught by professional instructors from the Institute of Reading Development, which has been teaching these classes for 35 years. To register or receive more information, please contact the Institute of Reading Development at (800) 978-9596, 8 a.m.–10 p.m. Monday–Thursday, 8 a.m.–9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Saturday.
