THINK AGAIN Message from the Staff

Say Hello to Summer! Being laid back doesn’t mean you’re not learning. At SPCS, we think of learning as a lifelong and year-round endeavor—even during the summer! As a result, we offer a wide range of summer-themed programs for adults, youth, and the young at heart. For kids (and their parents), we’re offering week-long classes and camps for K-12 students. New this summer is our UR WELL Wellness Camp, a weeklong daycamp for middle schoolers focused on a healthy, active lifestyle. But the fun doesn’t stop with kids and camps. Several new professional development programs offer a break from the “normal” classroom experience. We’re debuting our Ethical Hacker Series for those seeking to use hacking to protect from hackers. And we’re also offering a 3-day Dyslexia Seminar for classroom teachers that’s full of hands-on demonstrations and activities.

Summer is a great time for learning. Come join us for unique summertime opportunities!

Summer 2016

Changes to the Nutrition & Food Science Certificate

The Center for Culinary Arts has revamped its Nutrition and Food Science certificate. The changes enable students to customize their learning experience by combining hands-on opportunities to cook nutritious, healthy meals with classroom opportunities to learn the science of nutrition and a healthy lifestyle. Students seeking the Nutrition and Food Science certificate can now mix and match from among 6-hour, 3-hour, and 2-hour lecture based classes and 6-hour and 3-hour hands-on cooking classes to fulfill the certificate requirements. The revamped certificate program requires no pre-requisites and allows students to mix and match any combination of classes to meet the 10-course certificate requirement. One of the architects of the NFS certificate and long-time Culinary Arts instructor, Paula Harrison, MS, DSN, has published a new book titled Superfoods for Women, which presents eating habits that can help women preserve their health and vitality. Visit rdnadvice.com/book.html for details.

Say Hello to Summer! Being laid back doesn’t mean you’re not learning At SPCS, we think of learning as a lifelong and year-round endeavor—even during the summer! As a result, we offer a wide range of summer-themed programs for adults, youth, and the young at heart. For kids (and their parents), we’re offering week-long classes and camps for K12 students. New this summer is our UR WELL Wellness Camp, a week-long day camp for middle schoolers focused on a healthy, active lifestyle. But the fun doesn’t stop with kids and camps. Several new professional development programs offer a break from the “normal” classroom experience. We’re debuting our Ethical Hacker Series for those seeking to use hacking to protect from hackers. And we’re also offering a three day Dyslexia Seminar for classroom teachers that’s full of hands-on demonstrations and activities.

Summer is a great time for learning. Come join us for unique summertime opportunities!
