There will be no cuts this year in the soccer program due to a second JV team being added. This decision came into the works at the beginning of soccer pre-season when first year Head Coach Auggie Trevino saw the exceeding amount of interest in the program. “I saw so many kids that loved the game and came out, and I knew from prior experience that I couldn’t take all of them,” he said. “I never want to deny anyone from a sport they loved so, I talked to Dr. Shurley and we added a third team.” With the addition of the freshman team, the addition of a coach is needed. The biggest event here in Dallas, Texas is back with the greatest attractions, rides, and tasty treats you could think of. Big Tex invites you back to the State Fair of Texas to enjoy the thrills of the ferris wheel, coasters, dog shows, carnival games, fun houses and more. From Sep. 28 to Oct. 21, the Fair will be open to anyone who chooses to experience one of the greatest events in Texas history. This is a very family friendly space that kids all ages can enjoy. “Not only is the Fair fun for all members of the family, it’s educational too! Even the youngest fairgoer will learn about the importance of agriculture here in Texas. On any given day, there are tons of family-friendly activities and exhibits included in the price of Courtesy of Flickr admission.” Each year, the State Fair has different foods lined up. As always, Fletcher’s famous corn dogs will be all around the park. Some of the new foods this year include fruity nachos, frozen hot chocolate, fried chicken nachos, fried cup of corn “elotes”, and many more treats. “Beyond the Big Tex Choice Awards,

with the school to review its nomination. Ursuline submitted a nomination in October 2017 and learned in December of 2017 of their admittance into the Microsoft Showcase School program. Current Ursuline students have used Microsoft programs such as One Drive, Sway, and OneNote since their freshman year, so the transition to Showcase School status was a “natural progression,” said Robertson. It is truly an honor that Ursuline is a Microsoft Showcase School and Robertson remarks, “Our accomplishment really set in once our showcase
school banner arrived. Everyone on campus was very proud. Every time I walk past the banner, I am reminded of what Ursuline has achieved, and it motivates me to strive for more for our students and teachers.” By the end of this year, every member of Ursuline’s faculty will be trained in Microsoft technology and programs, and each faculty member will be officially a “Microsoft Innovative Educator.” Technology is rapidly changing, and as it develops, so will Ursuline continue to develop and
grow in innovation. Ursuline has consistently devoted itself to providing its students with the means for success after high school and its dedication to properly teaching students how to use and interact with technology in a careful manner prepares students for the digital world outside of high school with the necessary knowledge for technological understanding and capabilities. The two teams will be called JV Red and JV White, and players will consistently float in between the two. Most freshmen are very excited about the addition. “I like it because it gives a chance to girls who normally would not get to play.” Karina Tores a freshman on the team said. Freshman Emma Whitley said she was excited that everyone made the team because she didn’t have to stress. The frestman team will play six games and participate in a tournament while the Varsity team will continue in the TAPPS league. “Go support our Soccer Bears this season!” said Emma Fitzgerald ’22.

Ursuline’s annual Wellness Week falls on Oct. 15-19. Ms. Brown and the personal counselors have combined efforts to plan an eventful and informational week. The purpose of Wellness Week is to promote wellbeing and support students through the provision of resources and
This simple, yet enjoyable activity has become increasingly popular in recent years for reducing stress. activities. On Tuesday, Oct. 16, lowerclassmen will attend a presentation given by the Grant Halliburton Organization. This “#SAFE” presentation will spread mental health awareness through a discussion of the following topics: the impact of teen stress on behaviors and brain health, positive and negative coping skills, and the signs of depression. On Thursday, Oct. 18, Dr. Ohlenforst will speak to upperclassmen on social media etiquette, including the effects of social media on teenagers. A meditation, planned by Coach Zorn and the Student Well-Being Leadership Team, will be offered on Friday, Oct. 19, during all lunches. Prior to meditating, a brief how-to about the activity will be provided. To promote attendance, cookies, brownies, and allergy-friendly treats will be rewarded following the meditation. Additionally, coloring book pages will be dispersed throughout Haggar during lunches. This simple, yet enjoyable activity has become increasingly popular in recent years for reducing stress.
