G RAS S RO OTS to G OLD M EDA LS Our Pastime’s Future. It’s hard to imagine that just three words can be so impactful, but these three particular words are the foundation of what USA Baseball is built upon. As the National Governing Body in the United States, safeguarding our nation’s pastime by finding and training the game’s future stars is our responsibility – a responsibility that we are passionate about and take seriously. We set the standards, we host events, we identify and train the athletes, and we compete at the highest stage in international baseball. But, ultimately, we can’t play the game. We can’t put in the work. It’s up to every young boy and girl, every high school or college baseball player, from every small town and big city in the country to imagine that they can be the next star for Team USA. You can be that star. You just have to believe it and work for it. The old adage “Dress for the job you want, not for the job you have” immediately comes to mind and the USA Baseball Shop is here to get you on your way. If you want to win a world championship and wear “USA” across your chest, it all starts with the work you put in. Dress like a USA Baseball athlete. Train like a USA Baseball athlete. Be a USA Baseball athlete. As you dive in and find your style at the USA Baseball Shop, we give you permission to dream about your #ForGlory moment, like so many of our national teams and athletes have achieved. Here is where you start your mission to be our pastime’s future.

Baseball is still America’s Pastime. But, representing the game on a national level brings a new level of responsibility and importance. 2018 Collegiate National Team manager Paul Mainieri understands this better than most. “For 25 days, when you put that USA jersey on, to me it’s bigger than anything,” he said. Mainieri will don that jersey for the second time in his career after previously serving as an assistant coach for the Collegiate National Team in 2015. “The first time I pulled that USA jersey on over my head, it was in the privacy of my own hotel room,” Mainieri said. “I stood in front of a mirror to see what it would look like, and it overwhelmed me emotionally. I literally started to have tears stream down my cheeks.” That campaign saw Mainieri assisting his friend Ed Blankmeyer, the current head coach at St. John’s. The 2015 team finished with a 9-8 record, including four wins over Chinese Taipei and a win in the annual USA vs. Cuba International Friendship Series. Now in 2018, Mainieri will take the reins with the help of some of his closest colleagues. CONTINUED AT USABASEBALLSHOP.COM

The World Baseball Classic Team set the tone for USA Baseball in 2017, beginning a historical year by making history itself. Marcus Stroman carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and the offense dominated the Puerto Rico pitching staff for eight runs and 13 hits to win its first-ever World Baseball Classic title, 8-0.
The Collegiate National Team hosted and won three international friendship series in 2017: Chinese Taipei, Japan, and Cuba.

The 2017 USA Baseball 12U National Team capped off its summer by winning its fourthconsecutive World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-12 Baseball World Cup in Tainan, Taiwan with a 7-2 victory over the host-country Chinese Taipei.
The 15U National Team finished the 2017 COPABE Pan Am “AA” Championships with a 7-1 record. The U.S. earned the number one seed entering the championship game against the Dominican Republic, but the gold medal-game was cancelled due to weather, and USA Baseball earned its third consecutive gold medal in the event.
There is only one word to describe the 18U National Team – and USA Baseball in general – in 2017: Dominant. From beginning to end the 18U Team was in control en route to its fourth consecutive world championship and seventh consecutive international gold medal at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 Baseball World Cup.
February 2018 — USA Baseball named WBSC Baseball World #1 USA Baseball reclaimed the top spot in the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Baseball World Rankings in 2017. WRAPPED I N GLORY Trea Turner started his career with USA Baseball in 2012. A vital member of the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team, he led Team USA with a .339 average and 14 stolen bases – 10 more than the next closest mark. He donned the red, white and blue once more in 2013 before being drafted with the 13th overall pick in the 2014 MLB FirstYear Player Draft by the San Diego Padres. But since 2015, he has been an important part of the Washington Nationals club where he won Rookie of the Year twice, has stolen 97 bases and hit .294 in just over three seasons. Tied for the third-most national team appearances of all time, Alex Bregman has played for Team USA five times in his baseball career. He started with USA Baseball on the 2010 16U National Team before making the 2011 18U National Team, the 2013 and 2014 Collegiate National Teams and the world champion World Baseball Classic team. In that time, Bregman has a collected a .352 lifetime average with Team USA, including hitting .361 with the 2013 Collegiate National Team. He also led that team in hits with 26 and
tied for the lead in doubles with seven. In 2015, the Albuquerque, New Mexico, native was selected by the Houston Astros with the second overall pick in the draft. And just two years later, he was hitting .294 in his first full season in the big leagues, not to mention helping to lead the Astros to their 2017 World Series championship with home runs off the likes of Clayton Kershaw and a Game 5 walk-off knock. Dansby Swanson was a member of the 2014 Collegiate National Team that took home gold in the XXVIII Haarlem Baseball Week. During his time with Team USA, he was second on the team in average, hitting .288, and recorded 19 hits and five doubles, while scoring 14 runs and swiping three bases. Following his time in the red, white and
blue, Swanson became the 24th Team USA alumnus selected first overall in the Major League Baseball Draft since 1978 when the Arizona Diamondbacks took him with the No. 1 pick in 2015. He was traded to the Atlanta Braves just six months later and made his major league debut on August 17, 2016. Since then, the shortstop has recorded a .250 batting average and 197 hits for the big-league club. A member of the 2015 Collegiate National Team, Corey Ray was a big part of the squad’s offense. He had the second-highest average on the team, hitting .355 for the summer, while also leading the way in runs scored with 12 and tying for the most hits with 22 through 17 games. He followed that summer performance up with a first round draft selection, being taken with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers. Since then he has moved up in the Brewers’ system and is currently hitting .250 while racking up 24 RBI and drawing 30 walks with the team’s Double-A affiliate, the Biloxi Shuckers. SHIPS FREE!

DREAM S C OM E T RU E Eighteen USA Baseball alumni selected in the first round of the 2018 MLB Draft
This time last year, Casey Mize was finishing his sophomore season at Auburn University, piecing together a campaign worthy of his Second Team All-American and Third-Team AllAmerican honors by ABCA/Rawlings and Baseball America, respectively. The right-hander finished the season with an 8-2 record in 12 starts and held an impressive 2.04 ERA in the evercompetitive Southeastern Conference. More impressively, he led the nation in walk-to-strikeout ratio (12.11) after giving up just nine walks all season compared to 109 strikeouts. His AllAmerican honors weren’t the only bonus of his stellar season, his dominating performance earned him a spot on the 2017 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. Fast forward a year later and Mize’s life has changed drastically. On June 4, Mize was selected with the first overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers. After going undrafted out of high school, he is one of seven athletes to later become the number-one pick, joining the likes of 42 | USABASEBALLSHOP.COM
Washington Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg. His talent and potential are limitless, and he backs it up on the mound. He followed up his All-American sophomore season with an 10-5 record for the Tigers, with a sub-3.00 ERA, 151 strikeouts and only 12 walks in 109.2 innings pitched prior to the NCAA Super Regionals. Two days later Mize was bestowed an incredible honor once again as he was announced as a finalist for the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award, given annually to the top amateur baseball player in the country. What his future holds remains to be seen, but his performances and honors have been justified. The young righthanded pitcher, who was shutting down international opponents at the USA Baseball National Training Complex just one year ago, will have his chance to continue doing what he does best. This time, however, it will hopefully soon be in a Major League ballpark.

@trentgrisham
Trent Grisham made a big impact in his time with Team USA. A member of the 2014 18U National Team, the outfielder led the squad in almost every category, including batting average (.538), hits (21), runs (21), RBI (24), walks (13), slugging percentage (.923), on-base percentage (.655) and stolen bases (10). His four doubles, one triple and three home runs also tied for first on the team. Those incredible numbers helped lead Team USA to its third consecutive COPABE Pan American “AAA” Championships gold medal. Following his time with the red, white and blue, Grisham was selected with the 15th overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers and has been working his way up Milwaukee’s minor league system. Currently with the Brewers’ Double-A affiliate, the Biloxi Shuckers, Grisham is hitting .233 with two home runs and six RBI.
A.J. Minter @a.j.minter
A.J. Minter made his first appearance for Team USA in 2014 with the Collegiate National Team. The southpaw dominated during that summer, recorded a 0.00 ERA after giving up just four hits, two runs and zero earned runs, while striking out 10 in just 12.1 innings of work. His stellar work on the mound was integral to the squad’s gold medal-winning run at the XXVIII Haarlem Baseball Week. Fast forward one year and Minter added second round draft pick to his resume, as the Atlanta Braves selected him with the 75th overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft. He made his big-league debut two years later in 2017 and has been an important member of Atlanta’s rotation
ever since. In just 15 innings in 2017, Minter struck out 26 opposing batters and in the first third of the 2018 season, he has recorded 22 strikeouts in 22.2 innings of work, while going 3-1.
Johnny Field @JohnnyField1
@johnnyfield1
Johnny Field was part of a Collegiate National Team in 2012 that was loaded with stars and future Major League talent. With that team, he recorded a .298 average while racking up 17 hits, including three doubles and one long ball. He also crossed the plate nine times and drove in 10 RBI throughout his 17 games with Team USA. In 2013, Field followed that up by being selected in the fifth round of the MLB draft by the Tampa Bay Rays and then spent the next five seasons in the team’s minor league system. But in 2018, the outfielder got the call to the big-league club. He made his debut on April 14, 2018 and hasn’t looked back. Field is currently hitting .255 with 11 RBI and six home runs for the Rays.

Drafted in the 10th round of the 2012 MLB Draft out of the University of San Diego, Sewald spent the next six seasons working his way through the New York Mets minor league system. In that time, he donned the red, white and blue with USA
Baseball to represent the U.S. in the 2015 Pan American Games. The righthander was strong for Team USA to help the squad win a silver medal in the event. He allowed just one run and zero earned runs, while giving up just three hits, two walks and recording six strikeouts. Two years later, he was called up to the major leagues where he made his debut on April 8, 2017. In less than two seasons with the Mets, Sewald has recorded 104 strikeouts over 99.2 innings.
