Christmas donations needed for children For the last 4 years, Mr. Garcia has been able to make Christmas a special day for children that suffer the ravages of cancer, thanks for the support of the Grafenwoehr community. Donations including toys, stuffed animals, candy and wrapping paper for ages from newborn to 18 years are needed again this year for patients at the Cancer Clinic in Erlangen. With the permission of the parents, Mr. Garcia will take photos and will send everyone who donates a copy of the event to see how your generous contribution made a difference in the life of a child. To donate, contact Mr. Garcia by calling 017632297814 or email.
VFW seeks Christmas support for orphans Members of VFW Post 9334 conduct a toy and clothing drive for the Orphans in the Czech Republic each year and are assisted by the Torch Club Dragons and the Keystone Tigers from the Netzaberg Youth Center. Persons who are interested in contributing to our Annual Christmas Program can sign for cards, purchase a present, and return it to the Netzaberg Youth Center or the Vilseck Commissary. Our youth clubs will wrap the present for you if it is not gift wrapped. Once the card and gift is returned you may keep the picture as a memoir. We support the Detsky Domov Orphanage and the Most Baby Clinic. There will be two collection points. Persons residing in the Vilseck Community may make donations at the Vilseck Commissary during normal operating hours and the Netzaberg Youth Center building 9080 Monday thru Saturday from 2 – 6 p.m. If you have any questions concerning the program please contact Jim Dicks DSN 475-9393 or 0171 710 6647. Both communities have responded well to this program for the last 10 years. Please assist our organization with making children happy for Christmas because they have no one else to count on but you.

Experience the enchanting atmosphere at the Christmas Market, the so-called "Reiterlesmarkt". This Market dates back to the 15th century and is therefore one of the oldest in Germany. Its name refers to an old Teutonic legend: In pre-Christian time, the Teutons believed in a rider who would take care of a deceased person’s soul. While the Teutons were afraid of this mystic figure, people in the middle ages changed their attitude towards this rider, eagerly expecting him to appear because – according to the legend - he changed from a wild, rude man to a friendly messenger who brings gifts to all men on earth. A painting of this famous rider can be seen on the facade of the city hall. But on several occasions he ―becomes alive‖ again. For example, when the market is opened or when the children of the town go on their candlelight procession. The Reiterlesmarkt (in English) is always held from last Friday in November to the day before Christmas Eve.
