25 May 2011 Tank Trail Open to POV co-Use Today: Join us at 10 a.m. for the ribboncutting ceremony (exit Rose Barracks through Gate 2, turn right, site is 300 meters down the road) and opening of the tank trail which transits between Main Post (gate 4) and Rose Barracks (gate 2). Co-use of the tank trail by POVs will be permitted between 5:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. Drivers must be in possession of an I.D. card or installation pass to use the tank trail. This initiative of a "one community" connecting road, allowing community members to transit from one side of the installation to the other without leaving post, is the result of having heard the voice of our community stakeholders; the initiative follows a year of planning and review in order to make this "one community" road possible. NOTE: The tank trail may experience closure during high intensity training events, use of range 132, or inclement weather. Only the tank trail which transits between Main Post Gate 4 and Rose Barracks Gate 2 will be open to co-use by POVs. Speed limits vary along the tank trail and will be strictly enforced. AFN Europe Moving to New Satellite Now – 31 July: AFN’s satellite delivery platform is changing, requiring viewers who have an AFN decoder and satellite dish in their home to make some changes to continue to get AFN TV. Since the process of setting up a dish and re-adjusting a decoder varies according to decoder model, location and other variables, the help desk and on-line materials are especially critical. AFN Europe has posted manuals and how-tovideos in English, German and Italian at www.afneurope.net. Click on the Eurobird 9A icon for the manuals and videos. For additional assistance, the AFN Help Desk is open Tuesday-Friday from 1 - 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. -8 p.m. (Central European Time). Viewers from Germany, Italy, Belgium, the UK and most other European countries will be able to call in via a toll-free number, 00800-2362683662 (00800-afnantenna). Direct-to-home viewers will need to reconfigure their home decoder and realign their satellite dish from the current satellite Hotbird 6/9 at 13 degrees East, to the new satellite, Eurobird 9A (EB9A) at 9 degrees East. AFN apologizes for the inconvenience, but assures the move to the EB9A satellite positions will better serve the AFN audience in the future.

Blackhawk Rendezvous Open to the Community Color casing ceremony, and a full day of sporting events, music, and much more!
11 June: The Grafenwoehr military community is invited to attend the 172nd Separate Infantry Brigade's color casing ceremony on the Main Post parade field at 10 a.m. This important tradition marks their readiness for their upcoming deployment to Afghanistan. Following the ceremony, there is a vast assortment of activities and programs planned for the reminder of the day at and around the Main Post Fitness Center. Activities include:

Please note: Non-172nd folks can participate in children's event, battle of the bands, etc. However, the sports competition will be for 172nd, as this is an official competition for a brigade prize.
Happy Birthday Army! 14 June: USAG Grafenwoehr and JMTC will host a 236th Birthday Celebration starting at noon in the Main Post Dining Facility, Bldg. 101. The event will consist of an invocation, opening remarks, music, and cutting of the birthday cake. The event is open to the community, and the birthday cake will be distributed to all Soldiers, Families and civilians present. The DFAC will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for lunch this date and features lobster tail, steak, shrimp, chicken, BBQ ribs, turkey and other selections to choose from. The meal cost for lunch that day will be $5.95 (spouses/dependents of E4 & below), $7 for all others.
Main Post POV Inspection Station Temporary Extension of Hours Extended through 30 June: The POV inspection, Bldg. 301, opening hours will be extended by one hour and will remain open during lunch time. New opening hours will be: Mon. to Fri. 7:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. (open during lunch). The station will be closed on 30 May (American holiday) and on the following German holidays 2, 13, 23 & 24 June.

American Day in Amberg 25 June: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., downtown. Message from the Rose Barracks Postal Service Center The Mail Room (CMR) portion of the Rose Barracks Postal Service Center requests your immediate assistance with picking up any packages or footlockers that you have received a notification card for. The mailroom facility and the
Footlocker storage area is running out of space due to the overwhelming amount of incoming footlockers and packages being received from downrange. Hours of operation for the Mailroom section (CMR) are Mon. – Fri. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (except 3rd Thursday 11:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. The Footlocker Storage area is located in 2SCR’s motor pool area (Bldg. 724) and is open Mon., Wed. & Fri. from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. However, you can also stop by the CMR window to see if we have someone able to assist you with retrieving items from Bldg. 724 during times other than normally open. The PSC staff appreciates your quick action and cooperation.

Child, Youth and School Services – CYSS The Edge! Program is providing youth a once in a lifetime opportunity to hike the tallest peak in Germany, the Zugspitze! This hiking program, open to youth who will be entering high school in August, will begin with local hikes on Thursdays and Fridays in June, beginning on June 9, and will culminate with a 2-day hike to the top of Germany on July 7-8. This is a feat that is certainly doable, but the training hikes in June are required to ensure youth are properly prepared. Vilseck Elementary School Continuous School Improvement News VES staff has spent a great deal of time analyzing assessment results of the past year to determine our new focus for instruction. The analysis led us to develop 2 new goals. Our school vision of ―Vilseck Expects Success‖ will remain the same. Bayern's beste Bayern at Freihung 25 May: 3.30 p.m. Come out and cheer Freihung during the "Bavaria's best Bavarians." The community of Freihung is selected as one of 24 communities in Bavaria to compete in the Bavarian wide competition The competition is hosted by Bayern 1, the most heard radio channel in Bavaria. Freihung was selected in part because of the outstanding partnership to the U.S. community. Everyone can participate in a variety of fun games. If you are interested in participating, you need to be no later than 3 p.m. at the Harranger fest site in Freihung (next to church). Sri Lanka is Guest 28 & 29 May: in 97346 Iphofen, at the Winzerhof (vineyard), Einersheimer Strasse 47, CIV 09323-875-930 (ca. 11 km / 7 miles SE of Kitzingen). Delicious Indian food and interesting entertainment (only GE) await you at the vineyard. On Saturday, you can also enjoy great cocktails and good music, starting at 7:30 p.m. Highlight will be a Bollywood-style dance performance. Sunday's program starts at 11:30 a.m. a.m. with a Jazz concert, followed by a traditional Singhalese buffet and fun
children's activities: face painting, searching for jewels, a nostalgic flying swing, and a small train. In the afternoon, coffee and cake will be on sale, and you can partake in a raffle with great prizes. Citizens Fests 29 May: Hafenfest 10 a.m., in 92334 Berching, Yachthafen (port), Sollngriesbacher Straße (ca. 42 km / 26 miles west of Hohenfels). Some yachts are open for a visit and a quick look around. Model RC boats will be out on the water, and the "Seemannschor Thalmaessing" (shanty choir) will provide the musical background to a lovely fest. No admission fees. 1 - 5 June: Altstadtfest in 91522 Ansbach, city center. Lots of food, drinks, good music (Bavarian-style) and fun.
"Jubilaeumsfest" for Grafenwoehr's 650th anniversary 2 - 5 June: in 92655 Grafenwoehr. The big festivities begin on Thursday 2 June, with a "Festabend" (festive evening) in the Stadthalle. Then the BIG fest happens during the weekend - be aware of possible road closures, diversions and parking restrictions! Program subject to change in case of unforeseeable circumstances. Friday, 3 June: Music starts at 8 p.m. with bands including The Downlookers, Lufttanz-Show and the Antenee Bayern Band. DJ party to follow.

Africa Festival 2 - 5 June: in 97070 Würzburg, "Mainwiesen" fest site along Mainaustraße between the two bridges ―Brücke der Deutschen Einheit― and ―Friedensbrücke―. The Africa Festival (in EN) has been taking place for 21 years and it has become Europe’s biggest festival for African music and culture. Over the last 21 years, more than 1,400,000 visitors from Germany and other foreign countries have come to Wuerzburg's Mainwiesen to witness the cultural wealth of Africa and to participate in Africa's zest for life. Because of its great success in Germany, the Africa Festival has now found a few copiers of varying quality. To avoid confusion, the name and logo are now licensed. The dancing figures with the name Africa Festival will now and in the future be a guarantee of a high quality in music and background program.
Garden Days: Schloss- und Gartentage 2 - 5 June: 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. daily, at theSchloss Dennenlohe (mansion) near 91743 Unterschwaningen (ca. 30 km / 19 miles south of Ansbach). At this Gartenmesse (only GE), up to 90 exhibitors and vendors will offer their wares in the baron's private garden, ranging from plants, rare species, garden furniture, accessories, decoration, presents and jewelry. The beautiful Park at Dennenlohe (only GE) is a fascinating place for nature lovers: visit the wonderful rhododendron park - the largest in southern Germany (open daily), or marvel at the beauty of the ―Landschaftspark‖, a patchwork of traditionally cultivated and wild landscapes. Additionally, there’s the private garden which is only open on special days, like this event. Every summer, there’s also a photo competition: send your best photos of the park via email or hard copy by 30 October to the mansion (click on link provided above), many attractive
prizes await you. Admission fees are 10 Euros per adult, children under 18 are free. Parking fees are 1 Euro. The garden is open daily 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Dogs are allowed on a leash, please bring along a bag for your dog's remains. Bicycles and inline skates are not allowed.

Jura2000 Half Marathon 4 June: in 92339 Beilngries (ca. 45 km / 28 miles SW of Hohenfels). The 21.1 km long route leads around and through Beilngries in several rounds, or take part in a 14 km or a 7 km run. All details will be announced online (only GE). Spectators will be treated to a fun entertainment program before, during and after the race.
Stock Car Race 5 June: 11 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., near 92339 Beilngries, namely at the race track along the road between Irfersdorf and Aschbuch (ca. 45 km / 28 miles SW of Hohenfels).
