TIRED OF HAVING VARICOSE VEINS?

Varicose Veins- 2 words that are considered a beauty ailment by many and a condition we all hope to avoid. Unfortunately sometimes even prevention cannot help avoid this condition as 70% of all patients with varicose veins have parents with a similar condition. Varicose veins are vessels that become enlarged due to damaged valves within the vein. The damage leads to blood being prevented from flowing back up through the cardiovascular system efficiently, producing a backup of blood and causing the veins to bulge towards the surface of the skin. This may sound hard to believe, but the veins that can turn in to varicose veins aren’t actually necessary to your body’s circulatory system. There are two vein systems in your body, deep veins and superficial veins.

Deep veins are essential for pumping blood to and from the heart. Superficial veins are much closer to the surface and not necessary in the process. That’s why they can be treated without affecting the body. In varicose veins the valves that pump blood back to the heart don’t work properly so the blood pools and causes the veins to stretch. And how did they get that way? Unfortunately the reason can be genetics, aging, leg injuries or trauma and prolonged standing. Our minimally invasive and non surgical treatment called Endovenous Laser Therapy is considered the gold standard in vein treatment by many and is one of the most effective way to treat varicose veins. Endovenous Laser Therapy (EVLT) involves a precise insertion of a very thin (less than 1 millimeter) laser fiber in to the diseased veins under the real-time ultrasound guidance, followed by an application of laser energy to heat and close the malfunctioning veins, which is called vein closure.

Other healthy veins take over normal blood flow in the leg immediately. Over time, the treated veins arte absorbed by the body. Depending on the number of diseased veins more than one procedure may be required. The EVLT Procedure is done in our offices, and usually takes less than 15 minutes from the start of the procedure until it is completed. To prevent discomfort during the procedure a local anesthesia, similar to the one in dental office is used. Patients can resume normal activities immediately after the treatment.
