ALISONH@USC.EDU DIRECTOR
LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE+ URBANISM
Alison B. Hirsch, FAAR, is a landscape theorist, designer, and historian. Her design and written work focus on how understanding cultural practices, social histories and memories can contribute to the design of meaningful places. She has recently immersed herself in work on the production landscapes of California’s Great Central Valley, focused most particularly on the San Joaquin Valley as a landscape of extremes that embodies the most pressing socio-environmental questions of our day. Prof. Hirsch directs the Landscape Justice Initiative at USC, which focuses on communities that design has not historically reached. She was the 2017-2018 Prince Charitable Trusts/Rolland Rome Prize Fellow at the American Academy and a 2020-2021 Landscape Architecture Foundation Fellow in Leadership + Innovation.

KKONIS@USC.EDU DIRECTOR
BUILDING SCIENCE
Kyle Konis, Ph.D., AIA is an Associate Professor of Architecture at the University of Southern California and Director of the Chase L. Leavitt Graduate Building Science Program. Prof. Konis’research centers on improving the feedback loop between design intent and the performance of buildings in use, with an emphasis on the experience of building occupants. He seeks to develop novel performance metrics, participatory evaluation techniques, data-driven design support tools, and lessons learned from the study of existing buildings and their occupants. These outputs are produced with the goal of building a body of evidence to support innovative design practices that more closely align project performance with human needs and sustainability objectives.

STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS & STUDENT LEADERS
STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS & STUDENT LEADERS
The AIAS organization serves as a resource arm for the students of USC at the School of Architecture. The American Institute of Architecture students is the national coalition of students and is based on campuses nationwide. This organization provides the support and resources for the integration of students with their professional counterparts through events planned by the board.
USC ASLA is the USC student chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects. The organization hosts a series of workshops and professional networking events throughout the year and encourages collaboration across disciplines. The student leaders are dedicated to fostering communication and advancing student development and opportunities within the School of Architecture and reaching our networks across the greater Los Angeles region.
