CLEAR About Consent

Great Sex

is CLEAR about Consent

Consent is clear and unambiguous.

Is your partner enthusiastically engaging in sexual activity?

Have they given verbal permission for each sexual activity?

Then you have clear consent.

Silence is not consent. Never assume you have consent — you should clarify by asking.

OMMUNICATION: IMITED: NTHUSIASTIC: CTIVE: EVERSIBLE: L E A R

Clear communication about what’s okay with your partner, feels right for both of you, what you don’t want to do.

Giving consent to one activity is not consent forever. Not sure? Ask your partner.

Ask your partner if it’s good for you— you want to hear an unpressured, enthusiastic “Yes!”

Have active communication every step of the way— if the other person is unsure or silent, ASK.

Consent can be removed at any time — after all, people do change their minds!

Trojans Respect Consent, a program of USC Student Health, requires all incoming Year 1 students (first-year and first-time transfer) undergraduate students to participate in a workshop on affirmative consent. The workshop centers on practicing how to engage in conversations about sexual activity with other students. 120 minutes.

This is a first-year curricular module of three required live sessions for all USC Students. The years 2 and 3 modules, also required, may be taken at any point after the year 1 modules are completed.

Ways To Talk About Consent:

You could get right to the point and ask:

• Can I kiss you?

• Can I take this off? What about these?

• Do you want to have sex, or would you like to wait?

• Can I [fill in the blank]?

You can also take the opportunity to use open communication about sex and boundaries as foreplay. Here are some ideas:

• I think it’s hot when we [fill in the blank], do you want to do this?

• It feels so good when you [fill in the blank], do you want to do this?

• Can I take your clothes off?

• Can I kiss you here?

If you’re already in the heat of the moment, you could say:

• Are you comfortable with me doing this?

• Do you want me to stop?

• How far are you comfortable going tonight?
